Just read that we will have to pay 7k glimmer, an exotic shard, and trade in whatever exotic we are upgrading to get a non-leveled more powerful version so that it is on par with the new exotics.
Maybe I am alone, but that seems absolutely ridiculous. As someone who doesn't have dupes of every exotic, i feel like this is a steep price to pay.
*EDIT*
This is the official post from Bungie: http://www.bungie.net/7_The-Dark-Below-Preview/en/News/News?aid=12442
It doesn't spell out the 7K glimmer, but does show that at least it appears that the selection is decently sized. It does also confirm the progression reset which is the main irritation.

Dont forget after you get it back you have to pay another exotic shard to do last upgrade on it. So we have to pay 2 times the amount of shards vs the xmas noobs who only pay 1 since they will find the upgraded exotics

4 RepliesIt's bullshit only if you maxed out or nearly maxed out your weapons/ armor. I don't mind levelling them up again but those materials should be refunded at least in the slightest.

1 ReplyFor some odd reason, I get the feeling someone in Bungie is wanting this game to fail. It makes no sense to shoot yourself on the foot so many times and expect people not to leave or question wtf is up with you guys Bungie? Or, maybe they just want to keep the sheep that defend this game and think its 'okay' that the game is not complete. Whatever the case may be, people are dropping out of this game in large numbers, and it will continue. The Dark Below is not going to save this game and eventually, Bungie will have filtered out any gamer with a brain , and thats when it will flop. I hope it does honestly, games should never be made like this. Gutted and sold...lol

Not sure if this has been added yet, I hope so... Deej has open communication with this very issue here: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82106803 My proposed solution here: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82311586/0/0/1

2 RepliesXur is a deliberate bottleneck (only available for 48 hrs a week with a few random items), it's not a surprise that Bungie want to force more gameplay elements through him. It will force some players to hang around for a month for Xur to get to a particular rotation of items. I expect Xur will only grow in importance with future updates because he's a convenient bottleneck on player progress.

Maybe the new resetted version starts at 300 attack power? Then its no prob is it?

If you do crucible or vanguard bounties on a regular basis the re-levelling process is going to be relatively painless. The real problem is that it will force you to choose which exotics are most critical to you. (In my case, Ice Breaker and Patience and Time will be the first to get upgraded). But some of the weapons were just downright unpleasant to level up in the first place. Bad Juju was so painful to level up, I'm heavily leaning towards not doing it. Even maxed out, and post-buff the Vault of Glass raid weapons are better than Bad Juju...and the thought of going back to using that weapon WITHOUT "Stringe of Curses" is just painful.

Edited by Synthiate: 12/4/2014 9:29:40 AMPeople here miss one point: You don't "miss" anything. 90% Of the game can be played perfectly without any upgraded Exotics. The only places where you should upgrade them are: -Crota's End -Iron Banner 90% of the game doesn't give you any advantage over a 300-Exotic. And for those places where you can get an advantage, you can just plan smart and make a build, in which you have to Re-Upgrade only TWO Exotics. FOUR if you want it for all characters. For regular Cruciblers, this has nothing to do with them. I will continue to use my blues, goddamnit.

I dont have a problem with leveling up my favorite Exotics again. I even think its good because this way there will be more variety in the game. I like many thinks about this game. But I have to admit that I was very disappointed about this game, some years ago I would not have been because I just didnt care enough. But this game was something special for me... I still think the changes are a step in the right direction.

If 7k is the price, then they better increase the glimmer cap! I can farm 7k with ease.

Edited by thefourfoldroot: 12/4/2014 8:09:51 AMCalm down dude. For Christmas we are getting a lot of new players and they need to be able to skip all the hard work in order to quickly catch up to our level. If that means deleting everything we have worked so hard for then that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make so that noobs aren't intimidated by our fully maxed weapons. Wow, I hate descending to sarcasm, but it tends to get more of a reaction. FIX THIS BUNGIE SO THAT YOU NEED A WEAPON/ARMOUR PIECE TO BE FULLY UPGRADED BEFORE YOU CAN EVOLVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

2 RepliesMost likely it has to do with the fact that the updated weapon will technically be a different gun. It was probably much easier for their team to create separate 32 light guns, which you have to pay your old gun for, than to create a bunch of experimental code for adding additional upgrade nodes to existing guns. As for the price, it really doesn't seem very expensive. In the right locations, glimmer drops like rain. Sure you have to farm it, but farming majors also levels up gear quickly, so it's not a bad conversion of time. What we really lose: • Experience/resources invested in a weapon • Advantage over players with a previously un-upgraded exotic • Ability for alts to take advantage of maxed weapons in weeklies (initially) What we really gain: • Weapon with higher attack stats and higher damage potential • Game update with minimal instability risk - This vendor mechanic already works flawlessly throughout the game, so no new bugs • Dev resources applied to other, hopefully more important areas of the game All in all, this doesn't bother me much. We can only use one exotic at a time, and my legendaries are still going to be maxed so it's not going to really slow me down. To me, the pros simply outweigh the cons, but I could see how other people might feel otherwise.

19 RepliesBut you'll have a higher damage/armor value to begin with... I'm not really seeing the issue here, just seems like a way to expand the upgrades to make the gun stronger
-
Better then making your exotics suck vs lvl 32s right now everything is good for lvl 30s so nightfall and weeklys and the normal new raid your current 300 weapon is good 31+ enemy's u will have to upgrade or get a new gun
-
I think I just got all the motivation I need to start playing WoW again...
-
6 RepliesAgreed. Bungie taking another shot to artificially extend play time.
-
What about bounty weapons? Are we just -blam!-ed if we have one of those? This is fantastic.
-
1 ReplyPretty stupid idea to completely reset all the progress like that. Will this be available to players who don't purchase the dlc?
-
Edited by Legend of Jordy: 12/3/2014 9:04:20 PMSo I'm paying 20$ so I can grind the same grind?
Why couldn't they just add one more bubble to exotics that just takes forever to expand. I'd rather not restart my Thorne only to loose the DOT effect and start all over for the 30+ extra damage.
What's next, I have to restart my character to hit 32 light level?
-
If this true its really a big let down especially for the players who invested time, effort and materials to max any exotic they have.
-
1 Replythis is bullshit, completely resetting my exotics why not just add an additional increase damage so we just have one more to level, opposed to the entire weapon again. To say nothing about the next dlc would we be expected to do this shit all over again then as well?
-
Why? To pad out the game again. It's all its about. Keep the hamsters running the wheel so they don't realise what shit they are being sold.
-
They did say exotics would be easier to level.
