**Update of all Updates!!!** 09/26/2014
The players have spoken, and they have won! Looks like we won't be waiting much longer for the right changes to begin. I guess there is hope, afterall!
****
It was love at first sight when the first Destiny trailer played before my twinkling eyes. After the Beta, I was convinced that this love was true and meant to be. I had pre-ordered a copy of my Love, and what better way than to have done so by purchasing the white PS4 bundle pack!? The combination was simply breath-taking. I waited in anticipation, yearning to join the gorgeous Destiny world as a feisty Huntress. Then finally, that day came.
Birds were chirping, the sun was shining, and the world seemed happy when I finally set up my new console. Little did I know, a dark storm was brewing just beyond the horizon...
The graphics were far beyond what I was expecting, the transitions from ship to planet were flawless, and there's a large amount of other things that I can compliment on the look and feel of this world. Despite Dinklage's monotone version of Navi, I can safely say that physically, I was 100% in love with Destiny.
At level 24 now, I am starting to take all of that back. It's only been a few weeks going into this relationship, Bungie, and already you've started to abuse me with ridiculous bounties and missions so repetitive, that "Deja Vu" has become a lifestyle. Let's break down the chain of abuse here.
Strikes are too hard. By too hard I mean, who the hell thought of bringing up Shanks' levels to Boss Mode all of a sudden? That person ought to be fired. I understand Captains, Servitors, and other high-tiered enemies being more powerful. But the wimpy, cute-looking drones? Come on.
Because the strikes are hard (as well as the other Heroic missons, for that matter), I am constantly in search for new weapons. The Crucible is a whole other can of worms you don't want to open, but I will say this: It is POINTLESS to me to keep playing Crucbile, when I'm getting jack s***, no matter what how well (or terrible) I rank. So what is the next best thing? Loot farming!
Believe it or not, you guys have created a Loot-Farming game from the get-go. Everything is solely based on repetitive activities in order to gain rewards. You have to repeat story and patrol missions, have to repeat Crucible sessions, have to repeat daily tasks, have to repeat the SAME bounties over and over again... See where I'm going with this? Everything you do in this game is farming for crap, crap that you /have/ to get in order to reach end-game. I need better weapons in order to dominate Heroic/Epic missions, but in order to do that, I have to keep repeating all of the above. And when I do all of the above, I STILL only have about a 5% chance that I'll receive something WORTHY.
Now, farming on the world maps (cave farming/spawn timer 'exploit') was just a nice, quicker way of doing things so we can get to the /real/ fun. Raids. That "big time" challenge at the end of the long, loopy road. But now you've taken that away too? Oh but wait, you're "promising" to fix this in a few months? A few months? That's like placing a dog in a cage for the weekend, only to come back a couple months later to a decomposing carcass. We can't wait that long for a fix and stay happy. You will lose players.
Having nerf'd weapons, on top of removing Ascendant Shards from Legendary items, just increases the motivation to stop playing at this point. The amount of work we have to do as players is not being properly compensated. The 'reward' factor has completely diminished.
I am now left torn as to whether or not all of my previous anticipation for Destiny was worth it. I am just glad I didn't decide to fork over more money for the DLC.
Please fix this now. Thanks.
TL;DR Version: The new update sucks. Your promises seem broken. Please fix now, thanks.
***UPDATE***
Just wanted to add a big thanks to everyone who's been offering some really in-depth comments/debates! If you get a chance to read, scroll through them! There's some helpful information, and there's also a pretty diverse set of opinions. You guys rock! :D
***Update-Update***
I've noticed a few people were posting the same message regarding Strikes, and how easy they are. Allow me to elaborate on this just a tad more. Regular Strikes /are/ easy. Yes. You can solo them without any problems really. But tell me (and show me) you soloing Strikes above level 24, and I'll edit my post. I was hoping that there would be folks who'd understand which Strikes I was referring to, when mentioning the OP Shanks (those are non-existent unless it's in a Public Event or during hard-tier sessions). Hope this clarifies some concerns.

3 RepliesActually boss fights remembered me on those shooters from the 90's. In those games you also often fought first a lot of enemies (always the same) before you got to the boss. This boss often was nothing more than I giant version of a regular enemie. Destiny felt the same game for me.. I felt like Bungie threw me back in the 90's.. especially because the AI of all those bosses isn't really impressive. One just teleports around, another one (hive) is to dumb to get out of the middle ground of that room you encounter him and another one just charges you the whole time. That vexx boss also is funny. He almost does nothing. He has one attack he spams in peoples directions from time to time. The earth strike was okay in my opinion. I liked it's three parts (horde mode, tank battle, boss).. but all those other strikes are nothing more than a pain in the ass. I don't want to play them anymore because I'm sick of shooting a few dozen magazines in the faces of the same, stupid AI, over and over again.. I also have to throw something in the room I did not read in this forum before: Most enemies are copy&paste versions from Halo enemies. Fallen = Elites Hive = Flood Cabal = Brute Psion = Jackal They are not even new. This does not count for all enemies you encounter, but Psions are clearly jackals. Legionaries are almost 1:1 versions of Halo's brutes.. I mean.. they even use similar weapons and equipment and yeah.. I think I don't have to say anything about green/brown space zombies or the fallen. Even drop ships are nothing new. These also work the same way the ones from Halo did.. All they did was taking their old assets, putting some new models on them and BAM.. Destiny is happened. In some way I also feel as if they've copied Halo 4's promethens as well. They have a lot in common with these vexx. And that's why Destiny doesn't even offered a new experience for me. I felt like I was playing another Halo game.. one with no story and actually no point in playing because I never got a connection to this game. For me this game was extremely disappointing.

2 RepliesIf you don't suck at the game it's actually not that hard to get good loot, get better first then focus on loot maybe

Edited by moose juice5: 9/28/2014 12:13:53 AMI have to disagree on the strikes, Iv been soloing the daily heroics for about a week now and I soloed this weeks weakly as well. I agree about the crucible, I'm starting to dread entering it and about the farming, personally I've never gotten why people did it. Why stand at a cave and shoot for hours on end for a chance at good loot when you can use the time to get some marks & rep and just buy the things? With the rest I guess your partly right.

8 RepliesYou were not meant to be able to have all the best items within the first two weeks of the game and have them fully upgraded. The weapons nerf was needed. ARS should not be as accurate as scout rifles at longer ranges. You were not meant to sit at a cave and farm items, you were meant to do bounties and get faction rep and currency then use that to buy items from the vendors, not expect it all to be handed to you from just killing things over and over again.. You dont go to work at a factory and expect to be paid in a new car each day after work do you?

1 ReplyI have a blue level 20 auto rifle that does 240ish damage can't remember the last number sorry, and me and a buddy go through level 28 strikes like they are cake...because we destroy shield with appropriate damage and have weapons designed for special tactics like void damage to destroy void shields and solar damage when the solar damage increases on...come on all I heard from this is repetitive and too hard to do, while repetitive is true too hard? Please

Expect all the Vanguard material to be slightly easier in the coming weeks as a fix is applied. Oddly, I had a different experience than you. I got most of my good Rare weapons out of crucible and my gear out of Vanguard Strikes. Then I started fleshing out my gear with rep legendaries. (and a lucky find of a Monte Carlo) PS: After the nerf of the Holy Loot Cave, it was mentioned engram/reward drops are being increased upon activity completion.

True Story.

5 RepliesI remember when I thought a level 24 strike was hard. I remember when the Weekly was hard, at level 26. I remember when I couldn't do the Nightfall in under an hour. Enjoy these things. Because, very soon, they will be gone.
-
6 RepliesYour kidding about the strikes right? They are too easy I want more of a challenge. I want more like the nightfall. The nightfall is amazing.
-
2 RepliesStop waiting for loot drops and just earn the Strange Coins/Motes of Light/Marks you need to BUY the gear you want.

1 ReplyEdited by Draconus2006: 9/26/2014 9:56:38 AMQueens bounty for 2 epic loot pieces. Vanguard/crucible marks for the other 2. That takes out ALL RNG pretty much. Upgrading them to the nonascendant upgrades takes you to lvl 27 (and time to raid). TBH i 2 or 3 manned the queens bounties for them to go easier (granted I was shard farming, so no use now for me to do them - you still need the 2nd item and sniper rifle). Queen's Bounties have the "epic" buff - which is basically the same as heroic, but one type of enemy gets "new shields that are ridiculous". 4 shotguns later...the psion dies... The end bosses of the story for queen's bounty though are pretty easy with 2-3 people. Just launch one big long rocket barrage. Watching as 6 Gjallahorn rockets and their clusterbombs transmute the corpse into Light is very satisfying. IMO - get a plan on rep and marks to buy the items you need - if you get any drops - they just are a bonus. PS - DO NOT UPGRADE a non-exotic or non-raid legendary armor piece with ascendant shards.

I agree with this. I am losing my desire to play Destiny. I can't find or earn any decoherent engrams. Leveling past 20 is armor based and I can't find anything. I've spent hours on strikes, the crucible, and the story, but I only earn green engrams which are useless. If I can't progress, then what's the point of playing the same shit all over and over again?
-
Not wanting to sound like a troll.... but I do all the Heroic strikes by myself.... yeah..... Not really by choice, none of my friends play at the same time as me so i usually am frantically scrolling hoping to find a team. In fact last night was the first time I've even been on a fireteam and I'm level 25... and have been for over a week due to the lack of even slightly better gear. The only thing I haven't done is Nightfall or the Raid due to the lack of a team and I read that you need a team to do those (tried to do the vault of glass but couldn't get into it due to the Centaurs taking over those circles). All in all I agree with everything you said, and hey at least you got that super sweet white ps4, I'm incredibly jealous but couldn't wait.

!!!!!Lol got to agree 100%!!!!! I played the game story and gave up continuing it at level 8 or 9 till i levelled up! So started farming got to level 20 in 2 days plus nice gear drops, money,materials,grimoires.... Played the rest of story as level 20 so i can flight threw the repetitive sponge bullet boss battle with endless hoards that made me feel like i was a spartan in 300 at lower level. All to be disappointed at the end! Anyways, know at least i can do fun stuff like strikes! Till i started the first one to realize it was the same story missions just on steroids!!!!!!!!! So said BLAM THAT i will make my own game with it, thats what bungie wants anyways, make your own story, so started a farming/bounty/strike doing binge and got all my rare, legendary gear like that, exotic also!!!!!(had a horse shoe up my ass that day 13 legendaries drops at cave) Now at level 26 i just play PvE with ps4 friends doing strikes at different difficulty,weekly,dailies..... We set are own objectives(ho gets more kills, how fast can we do a level 18 strike....) and some PvP when i want to see what better gear i can get with my 1-5 kills then the top players!!! Lol When alone i go on material/farming run to upgrade stuff. Also i opened a group for ps4 to help lower level player level up and get threw the game faster if they want to so they can enjoy the more challenging light vip levels!(Help a few but never joined my group! Think i should revise my "ya will help you. Join my group later when you can get to a computer" policy LOL!!LOL!! So with all that said it comes out to simple math equations: (X=players that love; Y=players that hate; Z=bungie patched) If X>Y= XZ If X<Y= YZ XZ+YZ= $$$$$$$$ all the way to the bank So play how you want, exploit what you want because bungie made $$$$$$$$
playing it my way!!! The fun way!!!
Thanks for this post

Edited by Shiva: 9/26/2014 2:17:30 PMThe only thing I can say in defense of Bungie is that this is their first MMO like game and they are obviously not making the leap to that challenge - starting with a complete lack of understanding the need for communication throughout the game and with the community. If they are not working with the community then they will never fix these kind of issues. The basic work/reward cycle that we all live and breath everyday and expect to be in our games in some variety is simply not there. Its a huge jumbled mess with no explanation. The economy is both too simplistic and too complex because is uses way too many systems that are not integrated. Unlike others, I don't read your post as "I want easy loot" I read it as "give us a clear path to progression and some level of predictability in advancement". This game is currently like having a glass ceiling in your career, which is maddening. The only way to overcome these hurdles, fix the rookie errors and preserve a player base is to communicate. Which brings me full circle to the essential lack of communication throughout the entire Destiny experience - from an inability to properly tell a story to a Community Manager that never interacts with the community to the inability to communicate in the game. Entertainment is based on communication and its amazing that a company that was so good at that in the Halo series could be so inept at that here.

very well stated and thoughtful comments on the game, wish I could rant as eloquently!

Problems with your post: 1.you want easy loot, which is never a good thing 2. About 40% of people complain that strikes are too easy while slightly less say it's too hard 3.Nothing is wrong with the crucible. I haven't played it much but I've already gotten a legendary and exotic as well as a lot of my best rares

9 Replies... Strikes are too hard? Are you playing the same game as everyone else is? The level 24 strike playlist that can be done as a level 20 with all green gear as long as you don't have dyslexia or are a parapalegic? If anything, they need to make Strikes harder or offer a Heroic Strike playlist for those who are actually able to do them within 10-15 minutes and not die a single time. The problem is, Bungie made content to cater to an audience they expected to be willing to learn and practice to meet their skill-ceiling (which is still low as hell.), but those people don't want to learn: they want the best gear right now and they want it with the littlest amount of work possible. If Bungie listens to the "super fans" like Blizzard did in world of Warcraft after ICC, this game is going to be exactly like WoW now, down 5 million subs and counting, all because they catered to players who wear their panties as snow-caps and expect to be warm. No.

I give this post 10 Golden Guns out of 10 Golden Guns. Some great points are made here. You do the Vanguard proud. I feel the same way. I couldn't have said it better.... seriously I couldn't. Lol.
-
I totally agree. This game is becoming a very boring repetitive grind fest with almost no upside. The very limited worlds and missions are torturous without some form of reward that Bungie seems determined to keep from us.
-
I love this.. its great. Not much to say but hope we could play
