Seems to be a slot for another subclass. Maybe expansion? I wonder what the trends may be for future class builds and optimization.

According to youtubers... that slot is for locking in one subclass. When you lock it, you get another one of that subclass that isn't locked and levels faster. [Yes, it does reduce the significance of locking to a degree... but I guess you only get one build that gains that lock bonus.]
