I would say Call of Duty contributed the most to the slow decay of FPS starting with Modern Warfare. The original Call of Duty games that took place in WWII I found to be somewhat educating.

I was talking in context toward the series. Call of Duty 4 was great. 2nd best CoD in my opinion. But Modern Warfare 2 and 3 is where the decay of FPS began.
