Maybe for you but if the gameplay is bad then it fails at being a game to me. To me, it all boils down to gameplay, every other things is just icing on the cake, story, graphics, music. I don't want a bowl full of icing. At the same time, I don't want a plain un-iced cake either. The thing about games is that they are like an opera. No specific part of a game can carry or make up for the lack of another part of the game especially if the part that is lacking is gameplay. The thing about games like Dark Souls, Super Mario Galaxy, Red Dead Redemption, and Halo is that no particular part of the games carries or stands out. Each game has their own beautiful aesthetic, amazing music, and engaging gameplay all rolled into one.
