If it was your way OP, we wouldn't even be getting next gen consoles. Graphics is the key distinction between current and next gen.
There is nothing else they can do, until Nintendo innovates, so Xbox and PS can imitate.

We don't need next gen at all
-
Yes we do. The hardware in both the 360 and PS3 are old and outdated as fuck.
-
Well if OP is right in saying graphics don't matter at all, then no, we don't need next gen consoles, since current consoles would run them fine. Not that I agree. I support better graphics in gaming, since right now it's the only way to move forward.
-
But graphics wouldn't be the only thing sacrificed if we kept the current-gen.
-
Still runs and looks great
-
Hardly. The 360 and PS3 are at their limits, and if we don't get next-gen then newer games won't work on the outdated hardware so they'll have to be severely gimped so they can work.

Not true. My console is feeling weak. It freezes, makes weird noises and has gotten slower over the years. I look at it like I'm retiring an old PC and getting a new one. Let's not forget that both consoles have new features exclusive to the new hardware. Let's also not forget that the Xbox 360 and PS3 will see less and less support over the next couple of years, so it makes sense to move as soon as you are able.

Edited by Orion: 11/10/2013 4:52:57 PMThe problems with your console can be fixed by repairs or a replacement. No need for anyone to design an entirely new console to solve your problem. And not everyone is having the same issues as you. My Xbox is still running just as good as it did 4 years ago. And current consoles are only getting less support because of next gen. No point making games for an outdated console. It's not like they were going to completely give up on it for no good reason.
