So this is why my thread isn't going anywhere, oh well.
But yes, my father is now pissed off and ranting because of the political and social messages it sends, kinda funny.

Is he angered about about message's simplicity and the complete lack of subtlety, or is he just going off about commies?
-
Socialists and Mexicans and those with no jobs and Health Care and Obama mostly.
-
Commies, then. I don't know if it's disappointing or inspiring that emotional rants can be stirred up from the most superficial handlings of subjects.
-
Disappointing, since my father flies off the handle about everything, he has terrible control over his anger.

Haha. Which is funny because that's the reaction Blomkamp wanted. To the poorer people, it's a tale of aspiring to be greater. To the upper class it's their world gone wrong. A nightmare. Despite the forced message, it did teach me a lot about the issues of class warfare and poverty. In the end, because Elysium was so small, Earth could never move it's population there. The only possible thing to do was to bring the technology to Earth. Which is how things would turn out ideally.

Edited by KilljoyDetective: 8/10/2013 4:21:45 AMMy fathers mainly complaining about it because he doesn't think all those people who don't work for anything apparently should never have access to anything if they're illegal, can't maintain what they have, and don't work. He basically saw everyone on Earth as those people. He also now hates Matt Damon because he thinks he's a socialist.
Hopefully that way yeah, Elysium flies the shuttles in, everyone gets treated for what they have, they leave. Then eventually start bringing up the planet to it's status. Hopefully possible, now that Jodie Foster and Carlyle are dead ha.
Haha. This film is probably the best example of why people will turn to socialism and communism though. Despite the fact the political message was obvious, having thought about what happened in the movie has to make me appreciate the movie more. I would have never thought about this subject in a certain way.

Yeah so Blomkamp did a good job in that regard, still going to enrage a lot of people that see it though most likely.
