I can sort-of why people freak out over the NSA watching us, but what about the companies who have that information already? Think about the kind of information Google has about you: everything you've searched (duh), everywhere you've been on the internet (if you use Chrome), all the information in your Google account (obviously, but it is used for a lot of stuff, and everything you do carries metadata), and basically anything you do on your phone (if you have an Android device). they aren't held to the same kind of restrictions that the Government is, in regards to what info they can gather, and what they do with it, and the government has to request this info from them in the first place. Why are people getting mad at the government when private companies go further than the government is allowed?

That information can only be obtained by police under subpoena.
-
Companies can legally have it and save it incase the police need some information from them, they are not however allowed to sell it or give it to anybody without your permission or the police have good reason to need the information and they reserve the right to say no.

Yes the police are required to ask, but those companies can sell your information at will. Case in point: Google can sell your information (unless you opt out of everything) but they can share as they please. From the Privacy Policy: "We provide personal information to our affiliates or other trusted businesses or persons to process it for us, based on our instructions and in compliance with our Privacy Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security measures." The older version basically said "we can share your information according to policy" which was the policy itself, and therefore not restricting sharing of information.

Because some random company has no authority to me, I don't have to use google for shit if I decide not too. I have no say on the NSA collecting my/others data. It's the principle of it, they have no right (legally or morally) to invade my privacy, and, in my opinion, they are

True, I myself do not use any Google products, but the vast majority of Internet users do, and they (generally) have little or no knowledge of what's being gathered about them by Google, among others. Also, if I sent an E-mail to a Gmail account, Google is allowed to read it, even though I never agreed to their ToS...

Don't you see the difference between a private company and the -blam!-ing government?!? One is avoidable, the other isn't. You don't want google to read your email? Don't send it. Problem avoided. I'm not getting an Xbox one, and one of the reasons is because is because the kinect is a camera that can't be turned off
