I can see where you're going with this, but it really wouldn't do much seeing as how you're with only two other people. Things like that tend to work better with more people spread out in a large area, rather than separate instances connected by public events.

I think you meant to reply to the OP, not me.

The purpose being a seamless integration of the communication system providing depth and immersion in the destiny universe as a pose to having a pop-up window (which could also be done to the same effect just not as seamlessly) but that's the general idea.. =]

I'm more concerned with the mechanic of it. Why would I want to communicate just to players in a specific faction? It's an odd way to divide up your communications. I think a better set of divisions would be proximity, fireteam/party, team (PvP only), all. And I don't think we'd need anything like a pip-boy to handle this. I'd rather see the emotes use fewer buttons on the game pad, and have one of them just cycle thorough these broadcast options. All you'd need is an icon in your HUD that changes depending on which broadcast method you have selected.

Edited by Atom Soul: 7/14/2013 6:05:21 PMI totally agree, what i meant was there'd be a broadcast division for people from the same faction in your vicinity, broadening the ability to make friends on field as a pose to the tower. I do think each faction would do well to have something like its own dedicated broadcasts or something like that, though nonessential. I also agree that the mechanics should come first and foremost, though hud clutter will detract from the immersion of the game experience. But 90% of the time, you'll be out in the field with only two other players. If they are in the same faction, you now have one faction channel that is equivalent to a fireteam channel, and all other faction channels are useless. Or they are in different factions, and you have two faction channels that each allow you to chat with one person. I disagree that hud clutter will detract from the immersion of the game experience. Each guardian wears a helmet. There could easily be a HUD in the helmets.

Edited by Atom Soul: 7/14/2013 6:14:57 PMAlot of the time, your usual fireteam may be busy, in which case there should be alternatives. Just a flick through the various channels and you're ready to get crackin. I'm sure many will agree that hud elements should be kept to an absolute minimum. Theres always a way round these things.

Edited by Vakoda: 5/8/2014 11:30:50 PMAlright, the only alternative I can see here is that when you go to the mission selection menu, and you put your cursor above a location, a small audio icon appears and you can hear different channels of guardians speaking over comms. I suppose that it could be a way of finding out where there's heavy activity, and it could be an indirect way of calling for backup. All this sounds similar to what the Division's doing.

Yeah, that's kind of what I mean. Just an element of immersion depth. Like in Halo Reach you'd hear random broadcasts in certain areas next to aerials. In a way you could use it to choose what type of players you want to group up with. I like your idea but not through the menu, through a physical action in game, be it a monitor you use to access broadcasts and frequencies. You could even use it to broadcast distress signals, if your squad is trapped or just needs backup.

Or for the sake of simplicity, just have a normal chat/mute system :)

Yeah but pull it off so you get a feel of using the lore technology in-game =]
