I don't like it for the lone reason that once your character hits the level threshold (say 20) there would be no reason to ever go back to Earth/fight the fallen again. Bungie has said they want to make it so it is rewarding to revisit areas you've already been to and this difficulty slider would, IMO, severely limit that.
I'm going to guess there are easy to hard areas on every planet to keep us regularly returning to each planet in search of more info, harder enemies, and better loot.

It likely will be scaled based on the average level of your fireteam, with public events being a certain level to make it challenging even with several players of any level. I'm really interested to see how it works in practice.

I would like to see areas that arnt leveled but are level locked at a certain difficulty. I.e. your exploring the starter area and find a base with fallen and their level is only marked by a skull - it ends up taking you 50 levels before your able to come back to that area to explore it.

Yeah, something like that would be interesting, not really standing a chance against certain opponents in any location until you're a higher level with better gear, constantly giving you something to work for (until you cap out).
