I'd guess something along the lines of 'Why would you need to follow more?" Same reason they only let you join 10 private groups now. They want you to 'focus' on certain things.
Which I totally disagree with, but eh.

Why would there be a certain limit to how many people you follow? Same goes with the number of groups you're in. The stupidity just blows my mind.
