The reason this will never happen is because Liberals see Conservatives as bigoted "me first" policy-makers, while Conservatives see Liberals as people trying to destroy the foundation of their own personal moral code that they grew up with.
as opposed to what it actually is, which is two parties trying to make sure the other one cannot accomplish anything while in power.

I'm sorry, but the Republican party truly is the "Party of Stupid." They deny the validity of scientific theories they have no expertise in, insist upon cutting taxes regardless of the circumstances of economy, and, of course, rarely hide their disdain for gays and Muslims.

What truly defines someone who is a liberal and who is a conservative though? I understand people's belief for each label, but to think that every American can be cut down to these two labels is silly. It is easier to create conflict between two parties as opposed to three, four, or five. Correct me if I am wrong, but between two people, it is easier to create such conflict because of the division of opposing opinions. One side can take X side while the other can take Y. If there was a third party, they would have to choose one of these as well, giving them a connection to the other party that believes in what they believe. Multiply that by a large number and you would have the possibilities for groups towards specific parties. And yes, that is one way of looking at it. Both parties want to be in charge to put in the legislation for what they want. It is self-explanitory that the other party would not want what they are striving to put forth.
