UK has the highest violent crime rate in the world. What do they also have? A total gun ban.

Edited by Quantum: 1/19/2013 2:14:13 AMThat's nonsense, and it is completely un-sourced. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate US: 10.2/100,000 UK: 0.25/100,000 Britain's gun death rate is 40 times lower than the United States, per capita.

Yes, I was talking about all violent crimes. Interesting article about the issue.

Edited by Quantum: 1/19/2013 4:12:49 AMGood article, but, the murder rate is higher in the US, and guns are the primary cause for obvious reasons; they are a lot easier to kill with than knives. Doubled Edged Sword.

Because violent crimes are only gun crimes
-
Edited by Quantum: 1/19/2013 3:39:09 AMPoint Head The goal is to reduce gun crime, which is directly attributed to guns along with economic inequality. Violent crime includes punching someone, and it is irrelevant to the topic and is largely influenced by economic inequality and education.

Well no shit gun crime will drop if you ban guns. Less guns=less crimes with guns, that's very simple connection to make. But taking away guns won't stop violent people from being violent. They'll just use something else (knives, homemade bombs and molotovs, baseball bats, crow bars, their fists). Lowering one statistic isn't "the goal". The goal is to lower all violent crime, and if you think taking away legally owned guns will stop violence you're wrong. And if you think gangs will stop shooting each other up if guns are made illegal....go take a walk around LA or Chicago and tell me how that works out for you.

Edited by Quantum: 1/19/2013 4:04:42 AMI never said that, nor implied that it would completely eliminate violent crime. I did say that it would reduce violent crime, never get rid of it completely.

Pure speculation, the facts of previous attempts (90's Assault Rifle Ban) say otherwise.

I never said you implied it would get rid of violent crime. I was simply pointing out that this:
The goal is to reduce gun crime
is wrong.
