the r/destinythegame moderators told me that this wasn't allowed to be posted on their sub and told me to post it here, so I am going to post it here:
I put over 20 clears in equilibrium and what started as a fun experience now is just miserable and I hate it every time I do it, and it's driving me to quit the game which I made a promise never to do, because I don't want to give up on destiny, and reason to this is because I had friends who had worse, they used to play this game for years and loved it, but when they saw the exotics like the ghosts of the deep exotic, warlords' ruin, etc, they became obsessed with trying to get it, I joined with them, went multiple times and at first was fun but it became miserable.
I gave up doing those and went to enjoying destiny 2 casually, and I began to enjoy the game again doing it, but my veteran friends didnt, one of them even did ghosts of the deep 60+ times and just permanently quit because she's gotten tired of doing it and never got any of the previous raid or dungeon exotics before but only just wanted the navigator, it drove her crazy and she just permanently quit the game for her health becoming obesessed with it, another friend I knew also had a near similar situation doing warlord's ruin 50+ times at every weekly reset, even went to making a new character to complete the dungeon, delete new character, and repeated for weeks, but he just gave up and said he's going to warframe, even tho warframe has higher grind he told me it isn't locked behind weekly time gating and there's always a market to trade wheneever his badluck would show up, which left me with less and less people to play over the years.
now I'm the only on in my small clan with no more active people and left to join another with people who don't do raids or dungeons, and I never had interest in dungeons until contest sundered doctrine came again and it felt great completing it, but I never thought I would end up repeating the same cycle, not until equilibrium came out, and now I'm feeling the same situation I used to at years ago and I don't want to quit the game like my older friends did, but man it's feeling bleak after hearing soo many stories of other people doing the same thing over and over and getting nothing, and now I don't know if I should just quit doing dungeons solo for my own well being or keep doing it until I get the exotic and take a break, but man I am not having fun, and I wished I wasn't alone for feeling frustrated on it, the fact soo many people are expected to put themselves into months or years of playing to get a single item in a piece of content feels predatory and I almost feel like bungie purposely put this to artifically increase the player egagement numbers or something.
which leaves me to beg and urge for some kind of failsafe against bad random drop rates, there needs to be some kind of in-game information to tell people of what they're getting, what is the drop rates, how much do triumphs increase those drop rates, a failsafe after a certain amount of completions, like a drop rate incrase or an exotic quest, cosmetic rewards and their own drop tables, etc, something or anything make people feel rewarded for their time, sure tiered gear and craftable weapons are nice but for the end game it feels like your forced to be on a gamble for nothing or to just quit, and I wished it wasn't like this.

1 Replyif you dont wanna grind, maybe fortnite is the game for you others enjoy the grind and those grinds give people at least something to do... i ran vespers host 27 times until the icebreaker dropped the other days with lfg and it was fine, if people dont leach and play mechanics that is...

4 RepliesIf you hate it don't do it. It's a video game. I cleared VH three times. Didn't get Ice Breaker. Not a big fan of the dungeon so never ran it again. The result: the sun still goes up in the morning.

Play for loot in a game based on RNG rewards and you most likely set yourself up for disappointment.

3 RepliesI don’t necessarily think there needs to be drop rate protections but rather we should be able to run the dungeon infinitely while still getting rewards. Rewards being locked to once a week sort of made sense in the past due to the lack of variety of stats on loot but now with stats, armor types, perks, etc being so different, it doesn’t really make sense anymore.

2 RepliesOP: spot on! 👈 IMHO: drops from raids / dungeons should be guaranteed within say 7 full completions max. There should also be the option to choose weapons or armour as the preferred reward. An old buddy got caught up chasing EoT, and after 100+ runs, he finally got it…then quit the game for good. 🧐 I got dragged into the chase to help…after about 5x runs, I bounced…as it was just simply ridiculous, imho. 🤔 In D1 - we raided nonstop. The space magic vibe was real, and it was a hoot! After the Sunset debacle, the space magic vibe was gone…players voted with their feet…me, too…over to WF (MR24 😎)… Later, I returned…only this time, my engagement with the game was going to be very different: no endgame…no chasing ridiculous RNG-gated items…etc. Instead, I pootle about the place, with my basic vanilla builds, enjoying the simple stuff…maybe completing unfinished seals / triumphs or quests - or not! 😁 There’s a lot wrong with this game…but there’s also bits of it that are still okay. For a great many players, Destiny is basically the only game we play. And that’s our problem! 👈 We know the untapped potential that exists in Destiny…and we live in hope that Sony / BHQ will make it so… And that’s our problem, too! 😵💫 Just look at the player numbers…see the fruits of BHQs nonstop nonsense in catering to the minority of the harder / faster crowd. Blah…blah… They, ie, BHQ - don’t deserve our custom or loyalty or continuous patronage. After they ruined the space magic vibe, see above, we should have gone and stayed gone…but our love for what we all could see - the unfulfilled potential in Destiny, brought us back every time…living in the hope that they would make things right… And here we be…🙄 All things must pass. That is all. Ease Springs! 🖖

1 ReplyThere won't be. Know why? The horrible drop rates are on purpose. Because you've run how many times now? Keep spinning the wheel, hamster. Keep spinning the wheel... Lol. That's what BungLe wants.

1 ReplyI’m on my fourth week of running nothing but pinnacle ops trying to get armour with stats where I want it, after three weeks I still have two pieces I can’t get. Is it frustrating sure, but that’s the game it’s kinda always been like that. I kill the sound put on music or YouTube and just kinda zone out; it’s actually relaxing after a while, you’ll get what you want eventually you just need patience. Or stop playing, if it’s driving you that nuts then take a break, nothing in this game is worth getting stressed out over.
I put over 20 clears in equilibrium
You have exactly 14 clears of dungeon. 10 full, 4 checkpoint.
but when they saw the exotics like the ghosts of the deep exotic, warlords' ruin, etc, they became obsessed with trying to get it, I joined with them, went multiple times
Ghosts, 3 clears. Warlords, 4. None of them were with a consistent group of players. Why are you actually lying in a game where all your claims can be verified?
which leaves me to beg and urge for some kind of failsafe against bad random drop rates
No what you need to do is take a break. Your obsession here is very unhealthy, and that's coming from a player with 2000 garden sherpas. It's a bad exotic and you're so emotionally invested in it already that you will be disappointed no matter what. Then what? You quit blaming Bungie when it was you who overvalued it? You post here again demanding a giant buff?

Edited by Sen: 1/15/2026 4:58:28 PMI will say that FFXIV has a thing where you get currency when you complete something and there's a chance for the thing you want to drop. If you're unlucky, you can use the currency to just buy it in a future update. So doing a boss fight 99 times will allow you to be set to get it. But idk how that would work in this game. It is a looter shooter and RNG is part of the genre. Also play for fun. I would play on another character when I'm bored.

2 RepliesIt’s a fair request, but if you choose to keep chasing RNG, you’re sending a mixed message. My advice is to always play for fun.
-
4 RepliesYou’re brave, I like Equilibrium but after a couple run I’m done. And same for many other Dungeon: Spire, Warlord, Ghost of the Deep, Vesper… It’s fun a couple times but the mechanics and boss fight makes it so tedious that I never had any desire to grind a Dungeon more than a couple times (let alone with the feats system). Plus, with gear being regularly power crept and sunsetted, I really don’t see the point of investing hours fighting RNG. I’d rather a deterministic farm like Khovstov, it’s not very fun but the drop is guaranteed.

1 ReplyPersonal experience, don't actively look for something to drop. Think of it as the "Watched kettle never boils" kind of situation. As long as you keep striving for a particular drop, you'll go guano trying to get it.
-
1 ReplyDefine 1000s? You have 1155hrs in the game based on wastedondestiny, whereas I have 5937hrs. Therefore, based on your logic, I should be given everything in my first run, yes? It’s RNG and is designed as intended 😉

7 RepliesProblems with knowing the drop rates is it can kill motivation more than not seeing them even if the odds are the same your brain thinks "Maybe this run will be the one" which can keep you playing longer and we all know that player engagement metrics>player satisfaction at Bungie
