Hm. Anyway.
I don’t see anything related to the Pale Heart anywhere in this activity, not looks, not mechanics, not concepts.
There are Taken, there are Hive, there are Fallen and there are Forces of the Witness. Each of those enemy types have certain qualities that we expect to see, and it seems they have learned a few things from their foes and stolen some of their technology.
In some ways it is an extension of Destiny, but with a new twist.
If that’s what you mean by it being “taken” from the Pale Heart, well then I guess it’s just “turtles all the way down” to the Red War.

It's overthrow in a taken skin, obvious.

Not even close. You can choose where to spawn in Overthrow, and there are no roguelite mechanics or timed encounters.

Overthrow is an extension of Escalation Protocol. The difference I see here is that there is a definite end of the “adds” where once you clear them out you’re just focusing on the boss, with the exception of token adds just to be able to spawn orbs to recharge your armor buffs, but the distances between encounters are more the size of a raid / jumping puzzle. I like there are lots of nooks and crannies to climb to and shoot from.
