A mobile game that's not even canon...

It doesn't take a genius to see how Bungie could make Destiny better and pull in more money, yet this says otherwise. How much better would the idea of this mobile game be and appeal, if they said it was canon? Would it not be way better to explore pre Destiny 1 story moments? It could even hint at and foreshadow things to come. Didn't need to be an alternate timeline, but if it was, it could have played off of Elsie Bray's time loop, or the leadup to when the loop began...but nope. Nothing about this game's story ties to our canon. We needed a canon spinoff...we need a better investment to Destiny itself A remastered Destiny 1 sold and marketed as Light and Dark Saga, bringing back all 10 years of Destiny into a fully playable experience would not only sell better, it would fix the New Light problem, giving new players the proper way to get into the game. It would allow the saga of Frontiers to have space to be a new game for Destiny to evolve, transferring all the old content out. Bungie would literally make bank if we could pay to increase vault space. It's not hard to think of how to make things better for the franchise, but this just ain't it. Why would anyone care for a Destiny game, that isn't relevant to Destiny? Instead of asking other companies to make their own twist on Destiny, why don't you have them help you develop more content for the main game like you did once upon a time?

  • From a normal persons perspective that doesn’t have a lot of knowledge on mobile games and what people have what. It’s just a company making a game. A mobile game doesn’t have to be cannon. It just has to be fun.

  • NetEase paid Bungie ages ago for the ends of making a mobile game. They are primarily a mobile game developer. If anything I imagine they pitched making it an AU and Bungie agreed, because who wants to deal with having to explain where the player customised character “Wolf” who was buddy buddy with figures like Ikora, Jolder and Kabr went or why they’ve never been mentioned in the lore? Or the fact that the inclusion of the Hive goes against the established aftermath of the Great Disaster?

    • Netease is a company headquartered in China and as such is subject to national laws that restrict what can depicted in media produced within the country (potentially including provisions that prevent such companies from allowing meaningful content changes being made to content being released for international audiences). As there are undoubtedly a number of themes and storylines presented within Destiny that may be viewed unfavorably by the government in China, the decision to set Destiny: Rising in an alternate timeline would be a straightforward (if inelegant) way to allow Netease to realistically develop the game without impacting the storyline present in the Destiny/Destiny 2 universe. I feel there is plenty of room to explore alternate takes on existing properties; to suggest otherwise strikes me as fanboy gatekeeping. That being said, given the game’s status as a mobile game, its as yet unclear monetization model and the disconnect from the Destiny canon thus far established, I think it’s unlikely that I will be trying it out at any point. To those who try it an end up enjoying it, more power to you. As for the possibility of another Destiny game set within the canon universe, it would have to be developed either by Bungie itself or another company that is not subject to the sort of restrictions present for Netease. • Its not being done by Bungie, NetEase went to Bungie for access to the IP to create it. Bungie will likely be getting a decent on-going kickback but as far as them participating it'll practically end at possibly help with lore/narrative decisions that conflict with the game and simply IP protection if NetEase start doing things that are damaging.
