They should just turn it into a PvE horde mode. The community is so split between PvE and PvP that a mode that tried to combine the two was never going to work.

  • We used to have that,it called Reckoning

  • Then put Gambit in the vault and replace it with Reckoning -- even easier.

  • Not all of us are of your mindset. I play for PvP, but also love the PvE side of this game. The space magic could have easily worked better on both sides of the game....and I believe everyone should by now be able to be honest with themselves and acknowledge the reality of the path leading to the here-and-now. Gambit was an incredibly great way to blend the two aspects of the game, and in fact showcased the value in each side in terms of contributing to winning/success. It was a nice beckoning call back to the "steel sharpens steel" feel that PvP had years ago - for example in completing exotic quests. I always welcomed those even though they were tough. It use to be a great part of the blended PvP/PvE experience.

  • You can’t say Gambit was a great way to blend the two modes when it literally failed year after year so badly that Bungie literally gave up on it and now just put the final nail in the coffin. It clearly didn’t work.

  • It was abandoned for the same reasons PvP was abandoned. Period. You're either in complete denial or uninformed.......and I'm not gping to regurgitate years of history here because the facts are already in on this. As part of the card carrying facist hoard here that drove this game into the ground..... I'll not waste any more time here. YOU are the problem. Vaya con Dios

  •
It was abandoned for the same reasons PvP was abandoned.
Yeah, no one played it.

  • People played it, they abandoned it because they couldn't monetize it to death.

  • Which suggests people weren't playing it. Bungie can monetize anything people actually play and engage with.

No they can't. You can play Gambit and Crucible without paying for expansions and seasons, which is why they receive the least support. Engagement wasn't the issue, monetization was.

  • You're arguing my point. The mode went free to play because it couldn't be monetized because it didn't have good enough engagement.

  • The mode went free to play because Bungie needed something in the game to actually be free to justify to the ftp monetization. Crucible has roughly half or more of all players engaging with it and it is free.

  • Right. So they took the part with the least engagement and made it free because monetizing your least engaged part of the game doesn't make sense.

  • Not really. They have never directly monetized crucible, even going back to D1. They have always paywalled pve with expansions, they just tacked seasons, dungeon keys, events passes and a bunch of other thing into it. It doesn't make sense to monetize crucible and gambit because what do you sell? Call of Duty, Halo, Fortnite, Overwatch and plenty other shooters all have free pvp for a reason. It's not engagement, it's just hard to directly monetize pvp and much easier to justify selling expansions.

COD and Destiny is an apples to oranges comparison. They are complete opposites. COD is a PvP game with a campaign thrown in. Destiny is a PvE game with some PvP thrown in. But both do monetize what sells them. COD monetizes the PvP through seasons and cosmetics that directly correlate to the PvP experience. Destiny monetizes through dungeons, seasons, etc. that directly correlate to the PvE experience. This doesn't change anything. Destiny doesn't monetize Gambit or PvP because that's not what people buy Destiny for. So there is no incentive to invest into it.

  • COD is both pve and pvp, just like Destiny. People who say that Destiny is a pve game with pvp thrown in are just people who don't like pvp or suck at pvp. Destiny is a hybrid and has always been sold as such. COD monetizates cosmetics and season passes, which does not directly impact pvp like an expansion does pve. They have never paywalled their pvp in the fashion that Destiny does their pve through expansions because it's difficult to pull that off. Plenty of people buy and play Destiny solely for pvp, just as the same as people buy COD just to play the campaign. Same with Halo. But none of these games directly monetize pvp for a reason, because it's hard to, not because of engagement.

  •
COD is both pve and pvp...
... ... I can't even take you seriously at this point ... ... Your comparison to COD is as misguided as it is shortsighted and I don't know how else to explain it to you.
People who say that Destiny is a pve game with pvp thrown in are just people who don't like pvp or suck at pvp.
Or we are just realists who have noticed they haven't been developing for PvP for around 5 years now.
Plenty of people buy and play Destiny solely for pvp...
That's fine. You can buy Bungie's PvE game Destiny and play the PvP element that it has in it. If that's what you want to buy it for go ahead. Doesn't make it any less of a PvE game just because some buy it for its PvP element. You'll have to scream into the void at this point because Bungie, the developers of the game, just revealed what they think about Gambit and Crucible. Good luck if those are your things.
.. ... I can't even take you seriously at this point Your comparison to COD is as misguided as it is shortsighted and I don't know how else to explain it to you.
COD has a campaign and a pvp, just like Destiny. It is literally both a pve and pve game. That's the only comparison I drew to Destiny. Nothing about that comparison is misguided.
Or we are just realists who have noticed they haven't been developing for PvP for around 5 years now.
You are not a realist. "Destiny is a pve game" is one of the most asinine takes in the community. It is a hybrid and has always been sold as one. I just explained to you why they support pve more. It's more easily monetized.
That's fine. You can buy Bungie's PvE game Destiny and play the PvP element that it has in it. If that's what you want to buy it for go ahead. Doesn't make it any less of a PvE game just because some buy it for its PvP element.
Refer to the second sentence in the above reply.
You'll have to scream into the void at this point because Bungie, the developers of the game, just revealed what they think about Gambit and Crucible. Good luck if those are your things.
Bungie just revealed that the game modes they don't support much, due to not being able to monetize as much as pve have less engagement than pve, which makes them want to support them even less. A self fulfilling prophecy so dumb only Bungie can produce. I really don't care about what happens with this game other than discussion. I don't support Bungie products anymore.
