Review of the Titan Shoulder Charge Nerf: A Call for Adjustment

Yesterday, I played nearly 60 competitive matches as a Titan Arc main to evaluate the impact of the nerf to the Titan Shoulder Charge. Here are my observations and personal opinion: • Prominent Inefficiency: In my experience, increasing the strength attribute seems to have only a minimal impact on the effectiveness of the Shoulder Charge. Even after a complete restructuring of my gear - shifting the focus from agility to strength (from 60 to 100) - the cooldown of the Shoulder Charge remains excessively noticeable. High mobility is essential in PvP, but the redistribution towards the melee/shoulder charge doesn't seem to be adequately rewarded. • Tactical Issues: After the nerf, the Shoulder Charge feels significantly muted, and the Titan class loses a substantial part of its dynamism. The Titan's strength has always lain in its ability to quickly engage in combat, draw fire onto itself, and skillfully distract opponents. Without this momentum, the Titan class is heavily constrained in its typical, risky maneuvers. Is it now our task as Titans to act defensively and hide? SOLUTION: I can understand Bungie's endeavor to improve the gaming experience. However, experienced players often use the Shoulder Charge to escape from confusing situations - situations that often arise when actively playing the Titan and not camping. Here is my suggested compromise solution: • The cooldown of the Shoulder Charge is only activated when no enemies are nearby. This prevents players from moving too quickly from point A to point B. • In encounters, the cooldown remains deactivated, to keep the game fun and not abruptly interrupt it. I hope Bungie will consider this proposal. How do other Titans feel about this? What are your experiences and opinions?

  • Here’s the issue. Shoulder charges deals a lot of damage. It’s dips into verbs, can OHK and complements titans aggressive playstyles. On arc titan, like you just mentioned, you already have a movement ability. So why do you need another? Build into strength, and now you have to wait 7 seconds to regain that 15% lost. For the other advantages it possesses, it’s a totally fair trade off.

    • How about we also make dodge cost no energy unless you hit an enemy with it? Thats basically pre nerf SC.

Getting to mid map and then setting up a barricade (maybe with an overshield) was just too powerful and the nerf still allows this tactic just not the capability to run away if you overreach. Stompees just got destroyed on hunter for a similar reason with the nerf being the most harsh of any other nerf. They could have just tied the jump to dodge but with the slide and movement being lost too, hunters (the movement class) don’t even have the same movement exotic mechanics like titans and warlocks have with dunemarchers and transverse steps respectively. Titans are still amazing and I’m calling it now. Antaeus wards will continue to rise in usage and receive a nerf before the start of next season. -blam!- hunter main, Ahamkara spine will be the same.

        • It's killed a play style I've ran in PVE for almost 10 years. Since all the way back in D1, when all we had was bubble and striker, I mained striker in PVE. I got a lot of flak for it early on, but eventually people backed off because they saw it's just what I did and more than pulled my weight. The whole thing was all about being able to shoulder charge for movement and an aggressive play style that was high risk, high reward, and very fun. Over the years there's probably been more nerfs to SC than anything else. I've rolled with them all, and adapted to it. Then if you take it to D2, it was almost always Insurmountable Skullfort for me. Kill, and heal, refund SC. Awesome. You could SC intl between to move etc. It's literally equipped on my Titan RN. Now, the whole thing is trashed mostly because Bungie gave into crying PvP players that are usually Hunters. SC misses so often now bc of all the tracking nerfs, that you're constantly losing it even if an enemy was right in front of you. Skullfort was made almost useless with Arc 3.0 but it was still good for certain small things. Now it's just garbage. They basically just fundamentally changed the way I've been playing this game for almost a decade and it feels HORRIBLE.

          • I understand you’re pain but you hit the nail on it’s head in the first paragraph movement is key in destiny pvp. Bungie allready stated in multiple argemunts the want to slow the game down back to more gun play. Because below arvg players can’t keep up. So yess your statement however correct ain’t gonna happen because they want you to be slow
