At this point it's getting ridiculous. They refuse to give us active exotics like anteous, gryfalcons etc. But at the same time refuse to buff or rework 90% of warlock exotics that actually need it. I don't understand the design choices that the devs are choosing for warlocks exotics.
Every expansion I hope that they'll actually change them to something useful but no, at best we'll get on or 2 exotics that buff neutral gameplay as per usual.
There is no reason exotics like Vesper of radius, winters guile, dawn chorus, karnstein armless, apthosesis veil, Vesper wings of sacred dawn, sanguine, stormbracers, lunafactions, geomags, etc are all this obsolete this far into the games life cycle. Warlocks have literally had the same top 3 exotics in crucible for the past 2+ years and that is ridiculous, the fact that devs dont see this as a problem is strange to me and shows us that they dont really care about it.This is a design issue at this point and I doubt it's going to get better with lightfall.

16 RepliesEdited by xbroggiex: 1/28/2023 2:47:47 AMYes, they should be. In fact they should actually be getting to nerfing some of them or buffing other classes exotics. Warlocks strong exotics for PvE Starfire Protocol Osmiomancy Gloves Crown of Tempests (Literally works on any subclass if you have a voltshot weapon) Nezarec's Sin Rain of Fire (Literally a better hunter dodge as it has a 4 second cooldown and reloads ALL of your weapons) Contraverse Hold (Literally feeds into itself) Verity's Brow (Allows you to double the damage of your grenades while simultaneously getting better grenade regen and giving nearby allies better grenade regen when you use a grenade) Mantle of Battle Harmony (Literally gives you extra super energy for weapon kills then at full super gives you a weapon damage boost instead.) Hunter's strong PvE exotics... Star-Eater Scales and that's it. Gyrfalcons got nerfed with now no longer having the damage buff and then they nerfed the volatile effect completely because 1-2 guns fired too fast and did a bit too much damage with volatile. The only other outliers are only ever relevant in GM content I.E. Omnioculous and maybe Assassin's Cowl? Titan's strong PvE exotics... HoIL Synthoceps Cuirass of the Falling Star Does this seem disproportionate to you?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for effort ⭐ for making sense

As far as I can tell most classes (subclasses) have 3-5 exotics that work really well (PVP speaking) Honestly I think Titans are the ones with the most niche exotics. Honestly though many of the exotics on all of the classes could use a check up.

As new sets came out, the cards got more and more convoluted. They started having so many conditions required to make the cards actually useful, I just stopped playing. It feels like (at least for the last few seasons), Bungie is afraid to give us anything too powerful. Because then they would 'have to' nerf it. So most new things seem deliberately meh. Unless of course their power is directly tied in with the current artifact, in which case how 'good' they are is mostly temporary. Lightfall looks like they are taking so bigger chances, adding a new element with some crazy powers. Which is encouraging, but a lot of how it will be received is tied to the grace, finesse, and intuitive nature of what they put together. And, of course, how stingy they are being with rewards, progress, etc. Gunship

1 ReplyPeople don't like to talk about how a huge number of Warlock exotics are terrible specifically because they do something with rifts, objectively one of the worst abilities in the game. Rifts are already very situational and are only usable defensively considering their awful casting time and restriction of movement, in which case it's pretty questionable if they are ever better than titan barricade, which accomplishes the same thing but actually has defensive properties while rift does nothing. Who cares about an exotic that makes arc pulses when you cast a rift if you never want to cast a rift? Who cares about creating rifts on super kills when the rifts are out in enemy territory and you'd die for even trying to use them? Who cares about dropping rifts on death when you necessarily drop them in places that get your teammates killed? Rifts need massive buffs if any rift exotics are ever going to be good.

21 RepliesThere are too many Warlocks Exotics that do the same thing. Crown of Tempests, Nezarec's Sin and Eye of Another World all give general ability regen. Fallen Sunstar is an objectively worse version of Crown of Tempests. Starfire Protocol, The Stag, Vesper of Radius and Promethium Spur all grant Rift regen through some means. When using it with a small amount of common sense, Secant Filaments also do this. Sanguine Alchemy and Boots of the Assembler both extend Rift duration. The benefit of using Nothing Manacles instead of Contraverse Hold is offset by needing to use a worse grenade. Void is the most popular class for using Verity's Brow, so that can fall here too. There are also too many Exotics that are just unusably bad. Apotheosis Veil is a complete waste, Promethium Spur is actively detrimental to you, Dawn Chorus was gutted with the changes in Solar 3.0, Lunafaction Boots have been nerfed out of the game and Wings of Sacred Dawn play into a system that's (currently) completely dead. Out of 37 Exotics, only a handful of them are strong in meaningful content - Osmiomancy Gloves, Karnstein Armlets, Ophidian Aspect, Starfire Protocol and Phoenix Protocol.

Wtf? Are we playing the same game? For PvE you got so many good Warlock Exos (Starfire, Contraverse, Assembler, Lunafaction, Dawn Chorus, Phoenix, Stag, Fallen Sunstar, Getaway, Nezarecs, etc.). Imo more than you got for the other two classes. Of course there are only a few meta picks inside the Crucible, but it's not like there would be more variety on Titan or Hunter Exos inside the crucible. I'm not saying that they shouldn't rework a lot of Exos for all three classes, because almost half of their Exos are useless, I agree on that, but there are enough good picks. The top 3 Exos for Titans and Hunters in Crucible have been the same too for the last 2 years. Don't know what you are talking about.

Edited by JM-TheChosen1: 1/24/2023 8:26:50 AMObsolete is a bit extreme but power crept yes. All the exotics you mentioned can still be built for fun if someone enjoys them. Are they afraid to buff Warlocks? Imo Yes, because then everyone will be Warlocks and I don't want that hive mind to be a thing. Let the Hunters have that... Is it a little tiring to play Osmiomancy & Starfire all day? Yes but that's because I have played everything else exotic wise to death on the highs & lows of the game's life cycle. I'm kinda just sitting back and letting Bungie do their own thing with the Warlock Class atm. My only complaint is for them to bring the rest of the D1 exotics forward and enhance their perks. Right now, we have no choice but to study what builds we have and use them wisely at this time.

Exotics need to be reworked from the ground up…

Meanwhile they say they "Hear Us", but then right afterward, they tell us our issues will be addressed NEXT release cycle AFTER Lightfall! If they actually cared they would fix our issues FIRST. Not next year. If something is ever broken in our favor that gets fixed within a week! (Or just shut off till they get around to it, like Sidearms Piercing)

This isn't a nerf request, sorry. - Bungo

18 RepliesPrometheum spur will forever remain one of the least useful exotics in the franchise.

3 RepliesI am all for Ophidian Aspect getting a buff. My reloads can always be faster.

Warlocks are easily the most hated class by Bungie. It’s been this way since D1.

1 ReplyBungie: “We have a Warlock class?”

2 RepliesI only play my Warlock casually but the biggest issue I see is their super damage. Kits work great… synergize well for a good power fantasy… add clear like a dream… and are just fun to use. The supers are straight up the weakest part of their kit. 1) Arc has two add clear supers when their gameplay loop is already good at add clear. 2) Void is ok ish but Cataclysm really needs that weird tracking thing fixed. 3) Dawnblade is trash. Just straight up trash… everywhere. Well is better in every aspect of the game. 4) EVERY class needs a new stasis super

3 RepliesBut ophidian aspects are the most powerful exotic in the game!!!?!!?!………RHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

2 RepliesI feel like most exotics USED to be awesome but bungie is really against them being good for some reason? They then nerf them till they are arguably worse than legendary gear.
-
Bungie is afraid to buff warlocks in general notice how all the buffs have been just small cooldown buffs and nothing major. D1 warlock was best warlock and they do not want that ever again

1 ReplyEdited by Guardian, Archon Of Light: 1/25/2023 11:24:20 PMOnly Hunters are allowed to have broken things A flimsy shield you might get a few shots through before its popped is not allowed , meanwhile Hunters have 30 min supers that deflect other supers, and Bungie hasn't mentioned it the first time , and Hunter Stasis was tuned last , so Hunters got shatterdive for over a year, Warlock Stasis melee was nerfed a week after Beyond Light Bungie just vault Titans and Warlocks, and make Hunter the only choice, we know you want to , the fact that you wanted to only give Hunters Strand grapple is very very telling

2 Replieswould like to see necrotic grips helpful in more situations, them being helpful with glaives is an improvement but they are pretty useless with a touch of malice, their entire thing should mostly be weapons of sorrow, hell they could work with any melee weapons like swords too but they dont
