[spoiler] We know this isn’t true from the Unveiling lore book, the Hive were present on the Moon during the Collapse and I think even suggests they were on the Moon during the Golden Age[/spoiler]

The moon, I believe it was the artifacts from the black ship that drove the people made and killed them. Nightmare spawn. Crota did connect to a Golden Age dimensional gateway. The Fallen could have gotten here first, as they started fleeing as their world was collapsing. It wouldn’t of been that much earlier, a few years at most. The interesting part is how the Traveler arrived here instantly from their system while it took them centuries to travel here.
