Why are most of you still here?

Genuine question, and I’d like a genuine answer. I’ve been checking the forums for a while, and it’s just constant hate towards bungie and destiny 2. Nearly every single post calls anything and everything bungie does “bad”, and any post that has the slightest bit of positivity is downvoted and is full of comments making fun of the OP for saying something nice about the game. So it really begs the question. If everything bungie does it bad in your eyes, and if destiny 2 is the worst thing you’ve ever played… Then why are you still here? Why keep playing? Why come to the forums every day to voice complaints? Why not go find a different game that you actually enjoy?

  • I just play for the story and casual matchmade content when I need a break from ffxiv. I don't play pvp or endgame content so I have no reason to complain about such things.

  • I think they should make a separate forum section just for complaints. I hate coming in here with all this negativity. It sucks. I want to look at posts that are happy and uplifting. Not this garbage. Thank you for pointing this out where everyone can see it.

  • It's basically gaming limbo for me. I come back to destiny when I have nothing else to play. I still find enjoyment in it from time to time. Exemple : I played Trial most of the weekend. Sucked at it full time solo. Should've been smarter to go in with friends or at least one good pvp guy for tips & tricks. Nevertheless... I have to learn to take shots with my sniper. Every shot I dont take is a missed oppurtunity to improve. Still I had fun cause I earned new loot I actually cared about.

  • I've asked myself that too many times when I have logged in this season. I'm still trying to figure out the answer.

My answer is for several reasons. Here and there, I still play the game and I agree that gunplay was the best in any FPS (until AE brought in) which was a huge incentive to come back and hope. But, I do enjoy breaking down fanboy logic gets thrown around a lot in the forums. Also, just because I like to point out stupid logics such as "dont like it, dont play it", "git gud", "skill issue", "that is you problem", "you need to take a break" etc doesnt mean I hate the game and Bungie. It means I dont like fanboy excuses for real discussions, expect Bungie to get involved with its community where it is supposed to. And you are wrong, not all post with positivity gets down voted and 7-8 posts out of 10 that talks about positivity also shove something to the players who complains. So, if you (not literally you) are writing to trigger people, then you dont get to complain once they are. therefore, they are not really positive posts, they are posts that defends Bungie. You guys gotta make the distinction otherwise, anything you dont like just becomes a hate post. Vice versa of the situation is true though. Including you, many people here bashed in OPs for their legitimate issues just because someone else mentioned that before in bad context. You guys have no problem brushing everyone with the same paint, but once Bungie gets brushed you are triggered for some reason. This also begs another question, why are you here? Destiny forums contains the least amount of information about destiny. Twitter and Reddit get replies regularly, and you can get more info/gaming discussions from those places without the so called negativity of Destiny forums, but here you are! but as you guys say about destiny that it is Bungie's game, they can do whatever they want. Well, this is my time, and I can do whatever I want with it. After all, Bungie does not seek logic behind their decisions all the time, nor explain their reasoning. Why should I (although I did :) )

        • Why are most things bad/half baked that they implement? That's the better question. They could reduce the complaining by adding good/fun/new content instead of stuff the community will obviously dislike.

Because D2 has good bones. On its own, it’s one of the best, if not THE best feeling fps on the market. We also know that Bungie can do better than what they put out. They admitted that the old DLC model was too strenuous for the studio and then pivoted to an even more strenuous, but far more profitable, seasonal model. They’re able to shamelessly mix both greediness and laziness while also straining their employees to come out with the most mediocre content for every season. There are some employees at Bungie that have a finger on the community’s pulse and know exactly what to change, while other will only pay attention to usage rates and minor bugs that hardly affect the player experience. We go from incredible content drops like Forsaken to complete messes like Shadowkeep. Somehow, despite all the backwards choices Bungie’s leadership can make, the game still has strong bones. Fun shooting and fun mechanics.

            • Most of the people still here since the D2 launch and ALL of the people still here since D1 are all here for the same two reasons. 1) They are addicted. They cannot leave, they have no other thing to fill this huge part of their life. 2) They are too heavily invested, both in time and money. It costs around $100 a year for most of these people to play this game, and that is not counting the cosmetics they buy. Also (and not to be dismissed), many of these people have spent THOUSANDS of dollars on carries and recoveries. They cannot just walk away at this point, it would mean they would have to face the fact they WASTED all that money. I wish it was more complicated than that, but it isn't. I w -blam!- addicted for years. I bought all the terrible, terrible DLCs year one. I even bought a raid carry for prestige mode. Then I stopped one day and said "WTF am I doing?! This game doesn't care nearly as much as I do!" And I walked away. But I was a lucky one.

            • Maybe the complaints come from loving this game, and wanting it to do better. I dunno. But I do know that we as individuals are entitled to our opinions about the game. Just as you are. And it doesn't mean anyone has to leave and play another because of it. No shade. But the same way you just voiced your opinion, others should be able to as well.

              • You know, it is possible to enjoy and think aspects of the game are unmatched (gunplay, music, visuals) while simultaneously hating nearly every decision that Bungie makes regarding the game. Many of us really like the core of the game but hate the direction Bungie has gone with it. It also doesn't help that they inject politics and opinions into so many things, alienating part of the player base while banning on their forums for discussions of those very same topics...

                • Why people -blam!-. Because they KNOW this game could be so much better than it us and yet Bungie turns a deaf ear. The frustration leads to anger and venting on the forum is therapeutic to a degree. I took a break from D2 in january. I check the forums to see if anything has improved. Otherwise i rarely post. Played D1 religiously for years. Gave up raids and PVP in D2 because i wasn’t having fun. Hate the grind, but love the gameplay. Want elements of it to be like D1. Those fun times appear to be gone.

                • At one time it was new and exciting content. Now. It’s only solo dungeon and GM play. Occasionally a raid or gambit for chill grinding This has become golf at your favorite course . You know what to do and what to use but a tweak here and there

1 Why are they here? Some are here for attention. Others are here because they refuse to accept that this is the direction the game will evolve in for the life of the franchise. So they believe that they can pressure Bungie into changing course if they crank up the decibels on the outrage. Others still, imo, use this as a safe space to vent what is a more generalized unhappiness. 2. Why keep playing? Some are PvP players, and Bungie has been less-than-candid about their plans for PvP. So some of them still have hope that thngs will be different and get better. Some still enjoy the game, and just use the negativity for attention. Others, imo, are addicted. About 10% of the population that interacts with anything that is mood-altering....and video games are mood-altering....eventually become addicted. Addicts are some of the angriest people you'll ever meet. Lastly? Poor role models. Many look to streamers and content creators and think that their habits are how you should interact with these games.....so they engage with the game in toxic and unsustainable ways. Not seeing that many of these guys burn themselves out and have to take time away to get healthy again. 3. Why come to the forum everyday to voice complaints? Same answer as Number 1. 4. Why not go find a different game that you actually enjoy? Many have, but continue to (ab)use this place for a toxic form of entertainment. They don't care about the game. But like to stir the pot because they enjoy the chaos that their negativity can create. Leaving invokes accountability and responsibility. As long as they just complain, they can wrap themselves in victimhood, and insist that their unhappiness is Bungie's (or someone else's) fault. But the moment you decide to change....you forfeit your right to blame someone else for where you find yourself. But in return you gain control over your own experience of the game....and of life. The issue is that some people don't want that responsibility.

                • People here don't seem to get the idea that the appropriate response to burnout is to just take a break, so they'd rather keep bashing their heads against a brick wall expecting something different and getting more and more mad that the game they're playing is in fact at its core the same game it was when it released, just with slightly different variations. There's nothing wrong with that, it IS literally the same game, (shoot, platform, loot), but people get tired of it and apparently lack the self awareness to handle that properly and instead decide to take it out on the forums.

I just really like the gameplay. Plus there really isn’t another fps game where I get to play as a space wizard. My humble opinion is that pvp is dookie, but I love most pve content.

There’s no other live service game on the level destiny is on. I can’t think of a single one I’ve played, loved, and hated as much as destiny. Some players just don’t know when to take a break from the game when content is dry. Give bungie credit where credit is due. But also letting them know when they mess up is ok. On this app? Payers are just toxic, wondering why CMs don’t come here.

                  • I’m sure people that enjoy the game are playing and not using their time here on the forums. Forums are primarily for critique/criticism. bungie has been making some really dumb decisions and they should be happy to have a community to call them out on their bull.
