Why does this game punish new and returning players so badly its insane

returning after about a year cause the season of the haunted cosmetics looked too cool and solar 3.0 looked fun and I've been grinding pretty hard to get my warlock into shape to raid and do high tier nightfalls so I started looking at builds and for me to play my preferred class and sub type the most efficient way needs armor mods from and old season that ada-1 may not sell for weeks or months. i simply ask why? why not just include specific vendors for these old seasonal mods? guess ill just be doing worse then another player of the same skill and whos put in as much time as me this season cause he has mods from an old season. may or may not be uninstalling from how mad i am right now ill get back to you on that.

  • Missing out on gear i understand but making you miss out on the seasonal story kind of sucks. i would rather pay a monthly sub and be able to access all content whenever i want to play than paying no sub and missing out on story content cause i wasn't there. i shouldn't have to go to YouTube to find out what happened i should be able to find out by playing the game and i shouldn't have to play it whenever bungie says play now or in a couple of weeks you wont know wth is going on. people hate having to play through old expansions from ffxiv but at least you know what has happened when you get to the endgame and no content is lost. destiny 2 model is kinda crap and people need to accept that and even skillup knows that and he still plays the game and tells new players to not even bother trying to get into it cause you will be completely lost thanks to vaulting and fomo seasons.

    • It should be more new players friendly. I have seen new players completely lost and not knowing what to do nor how to configure their subclass, etc. A mission for learning each thing would be nice for them.

    • When you first start, you have to unlock everything as you go. That's how every game is, they never give you everything right away (unless it's Prototype, but that's just for the intro mission) So you work, you earn the mods and the tools you need to continue and succeed. In the case of D2, which is constantly growing and changing and expanding, leaving means you won't get the mods and tools when they come out. You'll have to get them when you come back. So when you return after an extended leave, of course you have to unlock the mods and tools in the same way you had to when you first started. This isn't an issue unless you're impatient or buy into the FOMO bullsh*t.

    • 100%. I think Bungie's strategy is to keep people playing by having a giant hamster wheel. But really they are creating a high barrier to entry / re-entry. I was a BIG player but lapsed and tried to return after over a year off and was overwhelmed by everything to do / update / collect again and all the new systems, which are complicated but not deep. It's such a shame. Destiny 1 was great fun, Destiny 2 now feels like a repetitive job just to keep up with the game.

    • Destiny is one of those games you have to regularly play or least keep up with news and updates . Got to be in it to win it 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • I mean it makes sense to me that if you haven’t played the game for a while (or at all) that you won’t have as good of equipment. Nothing is even moderately mandatory though. You can make anything work decently well if you try hard enough with your build crafting.

    • This isn’t warframe where mods are everything, you can literally coast by just fine without mods oh no you won’t do that extra 200-500 k damage another player will do. It’s not gonna make or break things, I run very minuscule mods and the cwl mods I do use it’s only for the plus 20 mobility or strength not the actual mod. At most I use high energy fire and charge harvester for a bit of a damage increase.

    • You really don't NEED any of those mods. The only mods that I would call "necessary", and I'm using the term lightly, would be ammo finder mods for your special and heavy weapons of choice. You can custom spec armor for whatever stat you want an the Crown of Sorrow using a Ghost Shell that has all the mods you need already "owned". Don't get me wrong, there ARE some pretty strong and useful mods from past seasons, but you don't need them. Just check with Banshee and Ada every day. The stock rotates. The more mods you don't have, the quicker they'll come around again.

    • So you’re upset that they won’t just give you all the mods when you want them after not playing for a considerable amount of time? Bwahahahahaha

This game is trash, the toxic community doesn't care, Bungie doesn't care, and all you need to be good is a few broken weapons and stasis turrets. Trash pvp, endgame that makes you wanna pull your hair out, on top of all that game chat doesn't work for me at all so I cannot talk to people unless I use PSN party or discord. What a disaster this game is. At this point I don't care at all about this game. I just play it to pass some time and I don't care about my gear I had good gear before Bungie took it away and they will just do that again so why bother. Too much stress.

I think a mod specific vendor would be a great idea to help people catch up faster. I don't see anything wrong with rotating stock, but there are so many mods, it is overwhelming if you have to wait for something, and they're so crucial to being able to do basic things now, even, that this game would just be miserable without them. Though, I will say the big problem I see with Destiny 2, is that we're all looking to build craft for end game content, but all the end game content basically destroys mod building with all the modifiers against the player to basically nullify alot of the build crafting.

        • This game punishes not playing in many ways: - You will miss vital parts of the story that the later story will reference much. - You will have no mods. - Here's the funny one. If you miss out on a DLC, skip it. You will be forced to buy it later anyways. You are not allowed to skip a DLC. Example: Skipped Beyond Light? Too bad the nightfall is Glassway and if you want your favourite Stasis super you best be buying Beyond Light even though you werent here to enjoy it when it was new and everyone was playing it and the raid and crap. Pay full price and get half the experience -blam!-! - You must play catch up and grind all the power levels you missed to do any end game content. - You missed the launch of raids, now every post says KWTD.

            • How do you think old players would feel. They grinded weeks to months for those mods. And you get them for free. Even though bungie said those mods would be TEMPORARY. They let them stay in the game and made you able to buy them. That is enough.

              • But hey, at least the first raid boss you kill as a returning player will guarantee the exotic drops 😉

                • I mean you're not wrong but at the same time, you should have played raids. Bungie uses a newbie and returning player "good luck" system to make them addicted again with desirable loot. Their algorythm gives new and returning players significantly higehr drop rates on raid exotics for example. Should have abused that while you could. For players who play constantly, that rigged system is frustrating aswell since the more you play, the worse your drop rates are. (I am not joking btw, Bungie will never admit to this but it's a proven fact withou an official statement behind it)

                • This is Bungie's model. They want you ingame. I also miss content of season passes. I think it could be different, but it's exactly how Bungie wants it. + Just to be fair, they optimized, but IMO not enough.

                • I know what I’m about to say doesn’t apply to your post, but my friend stopped playing destiny after BL dlc. Finally returned to destiny this season, and bought the witch queen dlc (basic version) Then had to buy the season pass And then bought the dungeon keys 😂 He was annoyed
