As of today, 30 days past the release of this addon, there was no solution provided by the devs.
They could've just removed whatever that UI tweak was which they added in 4.0 that broke the UI on the 'obsolete' operation systems. But they didn't. Because of this some people have already lost a full month of the gameplay they've paid for.
Whoever comes up with 'hurr durr go upgrade' suggestions may do so elsewhere. Even if I would be willing to install a second OS on my PC just for the sole purpose of loading one broken game, I cannot do so. I'm sitting in a backwater mountain ridge hotel at the outskirts of my country that is currently in a state of war. I am not going to download Win10 via local 100kbps Internet simply because some John Smith didn't do his job properly for the umpteenth time.

It's fixed! At least right now it's working for me, finally. I hope everyone can play now!

1 ReplySomehow i slowly think that the last time this happened in the Season before (where the game didnt even start on Win 7), the only reason why Bungie fixed it in the end was our fellow Russian player who came up with the 2 DLLs in the Destiny Install Folder that caused the game to start again. It caught the attention from Bungie because they feared that these DLLs could harm Destiny in a way they have no control of. So they threatened players using these DLLs with a Ban and fixed the issue while giving Intel about the progress. Remember guys: All of this did not happen before that guy came up with these files. Which was 2 weeks later, afaik. Before that, we were treated exactly like today: No info apart from: When its done. This time however there are no DLLs and theres prolly no way to make the Game work again via external sources. And this time we arent cared about AT ALL. Pure silence since more than a -blam!- month now. Guess what i think? Bungie gives a damn about us Win 7 users and if no Player comes around with a fix for this one day, we have a future ahead of us there we dont need to care about the 3 fps Cutscenes anymore - because we cannot play this Game anymore.

3 RepliesBroken by a forced untested patch for 5 weeks / 35 days now! Time to place your bets on whether there'll be a patch tomorrow on the weekly update. I'm thinking "No".

2 Repliesat this point im kinda begining to think they might have known about this before launch. like they tweeked something they have been wanting to and saw it broke the game for win7 but with a time crunch and possibly wanting to force the hand of people who have been unwilling to change OS. and just kinda hoping those still unwilling or unable to "upgrade" to win10 will just melt away. im sure its a pain to try and keep adding support for new systems and OS's while keeping older ones still running and adding cross play in the mix too. so its not beyond reason the devs wish we were all on same platform and OS. but the fact of the matter is we arnt. and they have said they support our system and they took our money. so i hope it gets fixed soon. this is beyond starting to look bad for them. at this point i unfortunately wont be giving bungie any more money for upcoming projects unless there is some kind of apology and assurance that my chosen OS/ system will work on launch or my favored OS/system is taken off the supported list.

Hotfix 4.0.0.5 DID NOT solve the issue. Guess the waiting game continues...

Update 4.0.0.5 releases on Tuesday. I hope it fixes your issue.

via local 100kbps Internet
sorry about your situation but you really wouldn't be able to play anyway just because of your internet speeds.....

1 ReplyHave you tried GeForce Now?

6 RepliesSorry, I'm going to come in here as that person .... YOUR OS IS OUT OF DATE AND NOT RECEIVING UPDATES FROM THE MANUFACTURER. Not only does that limit your ability to play games, use software, etc. It ALSO makes your computer vulnerable to multiple security holes. And as far as reaching for the sympathy vote, which is a bit reprehensible, maybe you should think of something other than playing a video game. Plus you should NOT be playing this game on a 100 kbps connection.

2 RepliesMaybe you should be more concerned about your household than a game then…

I should preface this by saying I really would like Bungie to fix whatever's busted with 7 so I don't need to do the following every time I want to play, but I do have something of a solution... Not exactly a fix, but for those of you with decent internet or install discs for both 7 and 10, you can do what I did and dual boot. You'll have to boot into 10 every time you want to play, which is annoying, but beats not having access to the content you paid for. If you don't have a second HD, you can partition your main drive into two parts. Install a fresh 7 install on the new one and use the same key you used originally. If it was legit (on your disc or on the sticker on your tower) then it'll try to authenticate and say you need to use the phone option. It's an automated recording and relatively painless. Took less than 5 minutes to get my install authenticated. Once your key is accepted, pop in the 10 installer disc/download the 10 updater and update to 10. ...then grab a book or something since it'll need to do a lot of updates to get current. But, once that's done, you'll have an OS than can play Destiny again. If your hardware is older, 10 won't run as smoothly as 7 by a long shot, but.... it'll run. I've managed to get 10 running on an ancient laptop that shipped with Vista, so provided you're not trying to do this on a vastly under-spec'd machine, you should be okay. These are the lengths I've had to go to to -blam!- for moth waifu. Not an elegant solution, but better than functionally having thrown 80 bucks down the toilet. To all those update stans out there, if you're curious about why people don't want to upgrade, there are many reasons. OP's reasons are legit. It could also be hardware issues. Or maybe we just like the look and feel. Personally, I run a lot of legacy software that just doesn't play nice with 10, and I have zero interest in updating to the modern subscription versions of the software (looking at you, Office and Adobe suites...) when I outright paid for fully functional versions that still work just fine for what I need them for, and have better GUIs and don't inundate me with ads or require a constant internet connection to work. That said, I do -like- 10, but I don't feel at home in it for the reasons I've stated. ...but nobody should've had to explain their reasoning since OP specifically asked for help, not to be harangued to update. We all know that updating to 10 will fix the issue. That's not the point. The point is Bungie sold us a game under the pretenses that it would still work for our operating system, and that ended up being a bigger grift than anything Savathun has pulled. Bungie either needs to patch it so it works in 7 and 8 again, or it needs to issue a formal retraction and offer refunds to the people who were tricked into thinking they'd be able to play.

2 RepliesIt's frankly ridiculous at this point and I'm not sure what's worse. The lack of any meaningful developer response to the issue or the tedious regurgitation of "jUsT uPgRaDe BrO". Not sure what people get out of defending the failings of the "small indie studio". And for those that just can't even imagine, why people haven't taken to using Microsoft's latest offering. I can give you some examples that I've heard of personally since you're so interested, obviously. Hardware incompatibility, crucial work software that doesn't run, past experience that put them off, personal circumstance, the flawless updating process or just maybe an adult making their own choice? It's funny too that, even if the problem was just 7 no longer being officially supported, what's the excuse for 8.1's exact same black screen GUI issue? Or are those affected just going to be waiting on updates until another Slavic fellow appears to clean up the mess? The one thing I do know for certain, however, is that until the majority of my friend group is able to play again, there's no reason for me to play either.

I'm with you on this. Beside, it does the same thing on my windows 10 computer. Downloading twice a 120gb game that doesn't work, and spending a whole afternoon trying to fix it... M'yeah I'm gonna go get something else to play... last time I played this was on battlenet- it worked fine.
