Controller woes

Hi all. Anyone else having problems with controller since the update? Mine drifts and jumps, my ads seems to cut out without me releasing the button. Please note this is a NEW PS4 controller and has only happened since the update

  • I have the same issue with destiny , however the problem does not exist in GTA online for example Might have to do with the deadzones because the higher sensitivity I use the more the controller seems posessed

  • Game needs dead zone settings. Should be a standard by now.

    • Same here. Was using a PS4 controller on PC and have been for years without issues. The controller just bugs out or drifts the character. Swapped over to a PS5 controller on PC and this has the same issue. It locks the controller out and I can only fix it by unplugging the controller and reconnect - until it happens again.

    • Same thing happened to me. I’m on PS5. I turned my system off and that fixed it. But I also play wired.

Anything made of glass nearby at the time? PS4 and PS5 controllers run on "infra-red" signalling. Which is a type of light that is invisible to human eyes. But it still behaves like light. So it will reflect, bend, and do other things that visible light will do around glass. I have a glass top coffee table. So my controllers will get wonky if I don't pay attention to where I'm pointing the controller, or if I put drinking glasses on the table between me and the console. It will do exactly what you're describing. If so, simple solution. Just make sure there is a clear line of sight between your controller and the console.

      • Every new controller I buy is squirrelly. On PS4 and genuine PS4 controllers are getting harder to find. The last one I bought...looked genuine but plays like a third party. I hate it.

      • Sounds like latency, if that's the case it's not the games fault.

        • If it’s not the joystick wearing out, I once in a while find the weapons pull up. It seems to happen when coming out of a sprint and the gun stick upright. It’s screwed me a few times in pvp. I think it’s a bug no one has reported yet. It’s rare and I’ve not been able to consistently make it happen

          • Does it happen in other games? Its probably some dust or something stuck on the censor You can either try using a vacuum cleaner on it or some cotton swab with some rubbing alcohol If you are comfortable with electronics you can also open up your controller and clean its censor (I don't recommend this if you never done something like this before)

          • I've had that happen on Xbox since the Anniversary dropped. I've had my character shoot sideways and other weird things sporadically. Doesn't happen in other games.

          • My PS5 did that once a few weeks ago but it was also lagging in the system ui. The next day I shut down & did a cache clear, working fine since.

          • I have a controller that drifts also. It drifted in No Man's Sky also, so I don't think it's Destiny's fault. I replaced it and there has been no drift since.

          • Yes, sometimes the controller feels "drunk" or something. Since the content drop.

          • Controllers have nothing to do with the game, but with the hardware. New or not, drift can happen to any controller - some times a quick slap will fix it, some times a hard reset will

            • It could be your PS4. I was using a PS4 until the beginning of December and my controller would drift all the time. You might just need to clean the dust out of your PS4, which helped me. I wouldn’t be surprised if your PS4 is running overtime because of the new additions and just can’t keep up.

            • Xbox series S, new controller, feels out of sync once or twice per 3-4 hour session. Only in destiny. Only started happening last few weeks

            • If you or anyone is using a PS5 the issue is with your controller. Look online, the PS5 controller has factory defects that cause it to do this after awhile. Return it while you’re still under warranty.

              • Ok I thought it was just me. Well, it could be me still and this might be a coincidence. But my controller does tend to continue drifting to the right for a split second even after I let go and this just only started happening recently.

              • Input lag happens when game is lagging or your wifi is weak but I'd assume lagging since the game is kinda in a bad state atm
