Laptop high CPU usage

Hello, month ago i bought Gigabyte G5 laptop. Every time when i'm launch Destiny 2 my temps going very high. After 1 hour session without colling pad my cpu can nearly melt. With cooling pad my cpu goes only max 97. I really don't know why my cpu is overheating. Other games like RDR2 or cyberpunk dosen't have this problem with overheating cpu with this games cpu is 80-90 so it's fine. but i think for D2 ishould be max 70-80c. My Specs Cpu 10500h Gpu 3060

  • Let's just say that Destiny 2 can be VERY taxing for CPU/GPU (and even consoles).

  • Sadly laptop cooling is quite poor comparatively even on high end models. I run a 5 fan cooling stand for mine and just lower settings when I have to when Gaming on it. Other options include stripping the laptop case and putting better thermal pads/pastes In sometimes machining more vents in the shell helps too but if under warranty I wouldn't advise opening it up until warranty is out.

I was using my Lenovo Legion 5 with i7 10750 and 2060 for Destiny back in spring when I bought it. I always experiened very high cpu temps easily high 80c/low 90c consistantly. What you are being told here by magis123 and others is the truth. I was running the game 1080p max settings and the temps though never throttling the cpu were to high to be playing 4 or 6 or yikes 8 hours a day. It's not supported because of the reasons you were provided. I switched back over to Xbox One X a few months ago and while I do miss the high frame rates I didn't want to punish my valuable laptop any further with such high cpu temps. It's just to demanding and Bungie by not supporting "ANY" laptops has stated that though it may work like it did for me it's not recommended.

    • Unfortunately the 10500H is primarily targeted at business applications / office applications and has been put in several notebooks that are 'gaming oriented' but overall the CPU itself is really poorly designed both from a thermal perspective and from a usage perspective for games. Your best bet will be to crank down your settings. The 3060 mobile also is not the best, it's functional but not the best. It's about 60% of what the previous generation 2070 Mobile performance and really should be limited to gaming on 1080p settings or low settings on 1440p. Part of the problem probably also is the refresh rate of that particular laptop. High refresh rate plus middle of the road parts will lead to high energy usage and high CPU usage.

      • Hey JakubixIsHere, It would be a good idea to do once-over with Bungie's recommendations for PC requirements. Destiny 2 on PC System Requirements This was also noted in the specs article:
Important Note: While we will do our best to make sure Destiny 2 is available on the widest variety of PC hardware, we do not officially support Destiny 2 PC on laptop configurations. Laptops with specifications that match or exceed our Minimum System Requirements may be able to play Destiny 2 PC.
Thanks, Jaredd
