Hello!
Awhile back I posted on OT about my lack of ambition towards writing my own novel i got so much positive feedback that really helped me!
So i started writing and I finished 1 and a half chapters before i just lost interest again so i wondered what the heck could be wrong with me!
Then I figured it out….. I am a huge procrastinator i just can’t do anything without a push from someone or something and if i even think of YouTube I’m done with what ever I’m doing
So I just wanted to say thank you for all the help and positivity from last post but i just can’t write it so thank you
Also is there any way to help with procrastinating? I really want to start actually doing stuff that interests me
Thank you for reading

My trick is to just not give myself the time to put it off. As soon as you think “oh yeah I really need to do some more writing” reach for your laptop (or whatever you’re doing it on) and just start. The dangerous part is the hesitation immediately after the thought that you should do it, because once you’ve decided you aren’t gonna do it, it’s very difficult to un-think that.

The key is to not treat it like something you have to do, but something that you want to do.

4 Replieshey pumpkinspice procrastination is hard, I have 1001 or more projects I started an abandoned and still plan to get back to 1 day think the best way to start to deal with it is small things: -try to turn off youtube when a video ends rather than look for a new one to watch -try writing smaller pieces to start, something you know you can finish, would love to read any short stories you come up with, it can help to get the feeling of finishing something so everything doesn't feel so unachievable -write for the people you know, even if it's silly, write something you can actually share :) -practice. write for 2 mins. next time for 10, etc, you get the idea, until you're writing for decent periods of time (think general advice is humans are supposed to at least shimmy a little every 30mins-1hr so you don't get stiff) But i'm no expert, those are just a few ideas, if I ever finish one of the games I'm working on I'll let you know
