This is something Bungie is looking into. In the meantime, why would you try to thundercrash it when we know there is open flooring around it?

Seemed like the fun thing to DO at the moment (and since I've successfully pulled that move off SEVERAL other times WITHOUT getting crushed by the closing floor/or/falling through after bouncing off the boss-whichever it was-I wasn't expecting it, LOL)
