Increasing shaders from 40 bright dust to 300 bright dust is blatant manipulation on Bungie's part and it's probably going to get worse.

When I read the TWAB me and my friends started talking about the shaders immediately. Our general consensus was that it seemed unnecessary and a little "greasy" (looking at you finance team), but that it was understandable. It seemed weird cause their reasoning was that shaders are now 1 time purchases, but they have been one time purchases since collections was introduced, so nothing changed. Then I remembered that just this season (season 13) Bungie buffed the amount of Bright Dust it was giving it's players, ONLY FOR THEM TO INCREASE BRIGHT DUST PRICES ONE SEASON LATER. I have always been on board with Eververse. It's a good idea that let's Bungie make a free to play game, but this is just a "-blam!- you" to consumers. It's obvious that Bungie realized that an increase in Bright Dust made it easier for people to buy an eververse set for bright dust, meaning they might only spend 15 dollars on one set instead of 30 to buy two sets. So they created a completely BS reason to increase the price of shaders in hopes that it would reduce the amount of Bright Dust people have left over, causing more people to spend 15 dollars on their silver sets. At the end of the day, it's not about the shaders. I really don't care about spending a little more imaginary money on a shader. It's about the fact that I feel like I was tricked by a company who just wanted money. And it's about the fact that this is two steps back. This is the first domino that people ignore that leads to more things increasing in price and eventually things going silver only. Thanks for reading :)

        • I would much prefer shader costs be 40 Bright Dust for common, 75 for rare and maybe 150 for legendary, but ok... I supposed since this is a live-service game, they believe money HAS to come from somewhere, wherever possible, just to support all the people working on it.

The price hike is way too much.

        • Small reminder that eververse was created to fund the live events - which have become just more eververse focused content (assuming it even happens, looking at you crimson days), even guardian games brought back last years exotic instead of some new content, there is a thing I once heard called defining decency down - where things that were once considered unacceptable have slowly become the norm as people just stop caring or complaining. Bungie have set the bar so low even reskins are too much, they just drop D1 items or bring back previous years content. It's sad.

If it took you this long to buy Amethyst Veil, you deserve to pay 300... In addition; who’s this actually hurting? new players? Older player? I take it neither since new players haven’t sunk nearly as much time into game, so paying up 300 for a shader doesn’t bother them in the least. And older players already own most of the shit, and horde bright dust anyway, so it’ll cycle itself out on to a new shader look. Which is just cosmetic. So wtf is all the huffing about exactly?

                • I am interested to see how many shades start to be released each season from eververse. The last year+, only 3-5 shades have been added to eververse each season. I see that number increasing. Also interested to see how much shaders dissappear from just everyday things, vanguard, crucible etc.

                  • I personally don't care how much a ghost project costs since I think they are beyond stupid, but how about the 1500 BD for one? Seriously, they cost MORE than 2x that of a non-exotic emote and only 500 less than an exotic ship or sparrow. And don't even get me started on the Silver prices or Transmog.

                      • This community is one of the most toxic I've ever met, but then I see thing like this: the posts calling out Bungie's bad behavior, all with 400+ upvotes a piece, and I think "I'm so proud of this community" As long as we keep spamming the forums and upvoting every post like this one, I'm sure they'll fix their poor life choices.
Throwback to when Sunsetting was implemented and both this forum and Reddit were filled with posts, 24/7, calling for Luke Smith's removal. Here's hoping we never see something like that again
• I kind of see what you are saying. But realistically how many shader purchases will you make a season? 3 or 4? 5? So the increase in bright dust we have been given, which we earn through playing (don't forget there are several avenues to do this... Completing 15 to 30 bounties would result in 300 dust), it's not real money, will sort of go toward the increase in shader cost. I think it's potentially a slippery slope and has to be managed carefully, but it could also be suggested that shaders are currently cheap as chips despite being one of the major cosmetic enhancements you can use. Also, this is a game as a service and it is provided free for the most part. As a result Bungie, and any other developer who runs this type of game, needs us to keep playing and keep spending in order to keep developing it. That's business 101. We can't have all the content but not put back in ocassionally, that would soon result in a total shutdown as it is no longer an economically viable proposition. I am talking more about Eververse here, but you get the point.

I feel the only people really complaining about this are more casual players. Literally anyone else who plays frequently or a considerable amount won't even notice the difference. Complaining about something so benign reveals your complacency. This season they practically have been throwing bright dust at players with the new weekly bounty system. Not to mention, while doing (whichever) activities, it takes a moment of your time to grab a handful of additional repeatable bounties that are all extremely simple and easy to do. But calling it blatant manipulation is something of a stretch. For anyone who lacks bright dust in the first place, that is on you and not being optimal with your own time. Not having an understanding of reward mechanics for effort put in is obvious here. Now this is going to be conjecture on my part, but the way OP is stating their entire post seems to be in a condescending attitude, shaking your finger at Bungie with a scowl on your face. You're game history is open. I can see you don't play very much, or at least, play a strong variety of activities. Come back and complain when each week you do all that offered in terms of bright dust. Between all three characters, (a total of about three or four hours) over the course of an entire week, if you focused strictly on activity completions and bounties that reward bright dust, you'd see a quite a bit more.

                            • That increase from 40 to 300 for a shader is just ridiculous. Is not like we will be able to use them for free, we will still have to pay 500 to use them anyway.

Especially when it’s almost the same amount of bright dust as a seasonal challenge that grants you 4x xp (*cough* grandmaster/trials) just 60 bd differences. Edit: i just went back to the same twab that introduced seasonal challenges to make sure if I misunderstood the amount of bright dust you can get from doing a seasonal endgame challenge(which I ended up did without researching...sorry). Turns out that if you complete a seasonal endgame challenge (Gm nightfalls, trials, etc) and use the amount that you just got to buy a shader. The only reward you end up getting is the 4 multiplier of xp
Tl;DR an endgame challenge’s bd is now worth a shader...
