I think we're confusing crutch with optimal. You don't look in your toolbox and say "hey, this is the best tool for the job, but I think I'll make the job harder arbitrarily by using the wrong tool so I feel special inside".

Back in Halo 3, I could somewhat reliably use a magnum to get kills whenever I wanted in Social Slayer. You wouldn't catch me dead trying the same in Ranked. I'll take the BR, thanks.

That is a terrible argument. A good player can make anything work but that doesn't make everything optimal. The difference between being optimal and having a crutch is simple: optimal tools make great players marginally better while crutches make bad players serviceable. When you're talking about the very best competing against the very best, that's where optimal toolsets come into play because you need that extra little edge. Example: Brett Favre was once one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL and is one of the all time greats. The Packers realized that Favre was no longer the best tool in their toolbox and let him go in favor of Aaron Rodgers, and were rewarded with a superbowl victory. No one is giving them shit for that move because when Favre was great he gave them the best opportunity to win and when he no longer was they moved on to a new option that again gave them the best opportunity to win.

This isnt an argument either and using sports is a bad analogy to counter something that is merely seen as an observation that is actual factual. This concept happens every single and is the reason why the game will never enter into the fun scene of Destiny rather the attempting to act like a competitive game. This game isnt competitive at all. There are no ranks, no in real life rewards, terrible lobby balancing and matchmaking, poor excuse for a server and anything else added. Stop trying to justify this game as a competitive game because it isnt and using sports as a mean to justify your ideals doesnt work because it is actually competitive with them and they are being paid to do so.

I never said it's competitive. This will never be perfectly balanced and thus cannot be on the level of an esport. It's not actually possible without completely overhauling the systems to the point where it's not Destiny any longer. My point was that your assertion that someone using quickdraw is "crutching" is objectively wrong because you don't understand what the concept of a crutch even is. My analogy was actually a perfect case but I can boil it down further so that you might understand. I could cut paper with children's safety scissors. I could also cut paper with the scissors sitting on my desk at work. Both get the job done, but I will 100% choose my normal scissors because they are objectively better. It's the intelligent decision to make because they do the job more effectively, even if it's just marginally so. It's not a crutch, it's using the better tool.

It is you who is brainwashed in thinking your ideals or logic arent wrong. If those weapons or perks wasnt a crutch then players wouldnt be looking for the next replacement or next best thing. A true gamer doesnt need the best thing to complete content or to showcase skilled gunplay, you roll with what you have or anything without worrying about the nonsense of patches attempting to META shift or make the next best thing. You keep saying this game isnt competitive but your way of thinking says otherwise. You are arguing against an observation and nothing else. Players are going to use whatever they want but when the META shifts, this community goes through the same spells they always have which is counteracting the META shift or changes with another META and not their actual gunskill with any weapon or loadout. You cant understand the stupidity behind their lazy logic because you arent a player who plays this game for fun nor do you have a significant source of variety in your gunplay. I do not change to META when I am getting destroyed by it regardless of the game mode, I adjust my gunplay and use map awareness to hopefully even the scale.

Fine. Please explain why you're right. What is a crutch? What is your logic? I want everyone who reads this exchange to see exactly why you are right and I am brainwashed. I really would love to see a detailed and intuitive explanation for the difference between using something that is optimal vs crutching on something.

Players have been abusing this concept since D1 and it has been the epicenter of Bungie whole idea of Destiny’s balance. You ever wondered why there has rarely ever been a sandbox change that consisted of changes regarding maps and their design, the weaker archetypes rather than the current strong ones and lobby balancing that breaks down players and forces them against each other based off of team structure rather than stats. Players right now have recognized that playing in a premade teams is the easiest way to stat farm and using the META without touching any other loadout is the easiest way to acheive wins in any game mode. If crutching wasnt a thing, the entire archetype of weapons or armor would be mostly even across the board in terms of stats but they arent. So you are saying that Felwinters and the current HCs arent being crutched upon to win matches versus the players’ actual skill set??? If the META didnt exist in Destiny current, players who rely on it, would lose their ish.

No tool is the wrong tool. All weapons give the same result, some faster than others. The specific crutch loadout yielding the best results due to absurd Stat boosts that were acknowledged by bungie and a majority of the community. To even suggest there is a wrong gun to use in the crucible is silly.
