Iron Banner Freelance Matchmaking

I know you guys just added a new matchmaking system for Iron Banner yesterday to try and improve it, but I hate to say it, you guys made it much worse. It's still making the teams incredibly lopsided. Almost every time it gives me all the under powered players. It's also giving the other team all the unbroken, flawless people. Im no god but also no scrub and STILL end up in a 7 game losing streak because it feels like I am in regular iron Banner with teams every game. I was really hoping to see a fix to the matchmaking as a whole, because as is, its terrible! I had to give up trying for my last season of Legend Glory for my unbroken title because I could not get a team together and freelance is way to unpredictable. it should NEVER be 3 trials sweats vs 3 average players in freelance. I hope this gets addressed, other than that im glad you are at least taking a look at this issue.

  • I've noticed a slight improvement to matchmaking, I've also noticed when one teams runs together the other gets ran, thats not a matchmaking problem its a players problem and bungie can't fix that

    • To be honest, my experience with the Freelance IB went much better compared to the regular IB. I play on PS4, EU Servers (I live in Italy). I dedicated myself Saturaday night to the IB bounties and the completion of the Iron Gauntlet Quest. Took me a couple of hours to do everything. Matches were much more balanced. I think I got only one mercy, all the other matches were pretty balanced, both victories and loss. Felt a much better experience that the regular IB.

    • It's because cbmm is still a thing. Even with the lobby balancing test all it takes is one high level player to screw the balance. The second and third skill level players are not good enough to overcome the skill gap. That one player will still take 30 something kills on the one side and skew the whole thing. IB is a pseudo End Game activity and should be sbmm.

        Hate to say it but the TWAB changes are pretty terrible on my end. First of all I've have played a ton in freelance and I'm sitting at almost an exactly 50% win rate since the changes. I just had a match where it came down to the last point and couldn't have been more disgusted with the way the game worked for the entirety of the match in order encourage that outcome. There are upsides and downsides to whatever way the matchmaking is going to work and for me the amount of shot registration and variations in movement between matches and between characters within a match just doesn't quite meet the bar. Its just not worth it to have what I'm doing be removed from the match to the extent that it is so that mercies become less likely. And these "requirements," whatever they are, can compound and pile up to the point where there's just too many negative unintended consequences. Seeing the words "join in progress protection" across my screen and knowing that the game basically considers that a match for me because of the settings that its set up with doesn't seem very much like "protection" at all. If its happening more because of certain requirements then how is that "protection?" "Hey bring this team back from a 40 point deficit and if you don't you will face what appears to amount to a skill diminution" is not "protection." Also, just want to point out that, overall, and in the grand scheme of things, PvP really is headed in the right direction. And some of the other changes that were/are taking place are mind boggling when you think about the fact that the game was/is still running and all the other things that are going on while the changes are changing. These are also just my opinions of my personal experience and are in no way meant to be generalized to the entire population. Though I do feel like the "two groups" (one of which literally consists of less than 2,000 people) may end up liking this matchmaking.

        • I dunno if it is just me butI found the IB freelance playlist extremely sweaty. All god players on my team and the other. I went back to normal and everything was fine. 🤷‍♂️

        • I've mostly been playing solo in normal iron bananana this time around and occasionally it's sweaty stompfest but mostly it has been pleasant. been having actual fun trying different loadouts and goofing around in there. slowly getting better with hold and release on orewing's maul...

        • This WAS the activity I most liked and most looked forward to. I was over the moon when they announced Freelance presuming SBMM or a looser version of it would also come with it. It's such a disappointment. Still streamers and higher end PvPers who just want to 'relax' and farm the life out beginners, PvE mains, casuals and the Crucible as a whole are instead overjoyed. Yay.

        • In all honesty, I haven’t noticed much difference, if any at all. I still see blowouts at least as often in solo queue. I’d have to play a couple weeks to say it’s the same or any different though. There hasn’t been enough time for any observations to be anything but anecdotal or psychological. It would be like flipping a coin twice landing on heads then concluding it lands heads 100%.

        • Eh its been fine for me man and ive played probably 20+ matches this time around, its been win some lose some, Kda is 2.56 for reference.

            Ive had a much better experience in freelance.. *the school yard picking system would make allocating players based on their previous averages way better than sweaty fireteams.

          • My freelance games have been sweaty. A few of them I even managed to get my super 2X in the same game. In the main game mode where you face the fire teams I have experienced mercy games quite frequently.

          • I wont say it's super lopsided but I have been dragging little timmy's and Billy's to dubland and they were actively trying to derail the train

            • I was experiencing the same amount of mercies as before. Completed my bounties and with the horrible RNG I’ve been having I can’t bring myself to grind it for the roll I want on Time Worn Spire. It’s just not fun.

              Worse thing about freelance iron banner if teams are lop sided they break up the team only to put the exact same team back together again I played 3/4 games of the same players, but matchmaking has always been bungies downfall

              Matchmaking in this game is terrible. At this point bungie should give up with PvP, it’s a terrible experience.

            • While they are at it. Can they stop immediately putting me in a very late game after I just finished a game we’re I was stomped. Talk about kicking someone who’s down. You would think Bungie matchmaking would put the top leader in the late game to try and make a comeback but no, Joe average me gets put in instead.

            • i feel like when this was added it was just a massive troll by bungo to tell everyone to eat shit dorks. it almost always matches the highest skilled players together on one team. it's definitely best to play the regular set as a solo.
