Making players do grandmaster for a weekly challenge is a terrible idea

For starters, most players aren't high enough light to do it. This is due to a variety of reasons (like bad RNG), but the worse part is that it's impossible to grind high enough to get there in a week if you're not already there or very nearly there now. "But you have all season" Except the passage of time exists and we have less than half a season remaining to complete it. Don't get me wrong, I understand encouraging players to try new activities. However, something like 80-85% of your player base literally can't launch the activity because they're so far down the ladder. Maybe give endgame players a separate list of challenges to complete or something, but these challenges took the place of weekly bounties and now you're gating it exclusively to people who play for hours every day. Bungo, weekly bounties were universally accessible by every player, new light through no lifer. These new weekly challenges are not, and players who want to do them can't magically improve by 20+ light levels to do it, likely even in the remainder of the season because RNG exists and nobody is that lucky in this game. I know a trials one is coming soon too, and that'll be another "only for the top 10%" challenge. If we have to complete all of them to get the bright dust reward at the end of the season, that's going to be a huge slap to the face to players, especially the ones actually trying to level up and can't because RNG keeps feeding them the same useless leg armor over and over again. One more thing, I'm season rank 112 and even if my light were, say, 1310, I still wouldn't be high enough light to do a Grandmaster. You have to basically no life the game to be at 1325 at this point.

  • Grandmasters have been around for a while now. You had all season to get ready for it, but you didnt. And now you're acting like the light level requirements are a surprise to you?! Lol, grow up and get some pinnacles

    • I agree, seeing I just reached rank 102 on the season pass, and I am not further than light 1319.. Given I have extreme bad luck with pinnacles this season. But that also opens up another conversation, why is there a lack of bad luck protection for pinnacles, hence, why can’t we choose our pinnacles.... I’ve had numerous pinnacles which didn’t provide me a higher light piece. I can only do these once a week, and they do not increase my level, thats pretty strange isn’t it. Why not, for example, let strikes give helmets, gambit chest, etcetera. This also pushes people to play said activity..

Totally not seeing the point that these replaced weekly bounties, also bungie said GMs where for a chosen few to keep them busy. BTW 7 trials wins in a few weeks, good luck

          • So giving you a goal to hit a light level to do content is now a bad thing? Cry because your not over level for everything in game then cry because the game is so easy. Same post to you as someone else here People like you and most commenting here are the reason this game is dying. Cry cry cry. Either get better or go play something else more suitable to your skill level and to furfill your want for everything to be handed to you on a plate because the world owes you. There’s slowly becoming nothing left for good players who want a challenge in this game. Gm nf aren’t hard they are a challenge above other content in the game yeah but not hard. Food forbid bungie have added something that actually requires you to think before you shoot. Man up seriously.

              • it'd be cool if weekly challenges stayed light. heavy challenges like completing a gm, rank up in gambit 5x, ect. these ones will come out the day the of the season and offer fat rewards. i also think it'd be a better system if you only got xp for completeing light challenges, but when you finish a week's tab you get 1000 bright dust. then at the end of the season you'd get a bonus based on how many weeks you finished, this would be much more casual friendly..

                • To be consistent, the requirement should have been like 6 Heroic ("platinum champion finishes") The highest level of Ordeal supported by in game matchmaking... and not third party LFG/ Fireteam Finder. That would have been comensurate with the previous weekly bright dust bounty system and pretty much achievable by anyone playing the game. Bungie has it backwards in terms of fostering engagement with content. So you don't have to look: I am base 1309... maybe after this week 1310 on at least 1 character. I think 1331 with the artifact. I played a lot the first weeks. If you have people that will play with you regularly you can muddle through content. They raid and have Anarchy and Divinity... I do not yet. Not "required", but whether players want to admit it or not, it makes a massive difference in something like a Master Hunt. Especially Anarchy as a solo.. Considering that if you have them, you were good enough (or lucky enough with a good group) to get through content without it in the first place. Why aren't top weapons and mods also rare open world drops as well? Higher chance from higher level activity but also available for the random casual player. Maybe that's the "crutch" needed to get through higher content. Is it any skin off another player's back that someone needed an extra edge to succeed? Like a Taken mod or adept mod? Other than facing said weapon in PVP, does it really cheapen your experience playing? More than Win trading, or paid carries, or glitches or simply poor connection? And remember... they were the "scrub" that got it from a lucky drop so you should stomp them anyway right?🤔 I said I don't raid. A couple of times but didn't enjoy. I will probably do DSC again since friends are comfortable with the raid. I have never wanted to do a GM nightfall. Never even done a Master...I might this weekend, but it is not why I play. Everybody has a different idea of FUN. Everybody plays at a different pace. Bungie said their whole purpose with these challenges was to allow casual / or 1 character players to get more brightdust on average and not worry about missing weeks/ eliminating FOMO. Players would get more then they had been under the previous bounty system which favored players that played regularly on three characters, even casually. I always had 20 - 30K. I actually get less now. If that was really the goal, Bungie should have published all the challenges week one, and allowed people to play at their own pace. At least for the ones that were not "unlocked" in subsequent weeks. Progress should have been cumulative for every bounty. So in the end my brightdust arguments really have nothing to do with skill level or "challenge". They are about equity of the systems and Bungie's own stated purpose. For those still wanting to make this about challenge and skill....about GM being easy and Git Gud: Please give back the brightdust and XP you received for simply listening to dialogue or decoding an engram. Those "challenges" are definitely well below your lofty status and quite frankly demeaning to players of your skill level. Oh... didn't think so. I want Bungie to improve but I can't take it too seriously. It is a video game 😂 Cheers, see you in Trials for cliff diving practice.

Grandmaster is the pve equivalent of going flawless in trials, and they KNOW such a challenge wouldn't be fair for bright dust, as close to real money as it gets in Destiny. And xp shmex-p. Anyone even attempting GM is already finished the pass and has no use for xp.

However, there was this little gem of a post in this thread, "This might be a good time for people already familiar with GMNF to start offering to carry or give out advice and much needed tips to make the experience passable." Yeah, that got completely missed. Honestly, the word 'Entitled' fits more with the replies than the post in this situation...waaaaaay to much assuming going on here and we all know the saying when it comes to assuming something don't we?

I personally think that it should be a 1340 GM with a 1315 cap to get more people in it sooner. Bungie stated that the challenges would get harder. Just because a casual player can’t complete it doesn’t mean it needs to be removed. You can skip 2 challenges and still complete the 75.

Damn bro. Do u realize something? The amount of time u spent wailing on here, even if u put in half the time to get a couple of pinnacles done, u would be much closer to accessing the gm nf? I bet u logged in at reset, looked at the challenge, IMMEDIATELY logged out and ran to the forums with ur keyboard and mountain dew. Screw playing the game, imma play on the forums all day every day and get some virtual internet support. Just make a post about awarding bright dust for wasting time on the forums. In a couple weeks u can even buy out the entire bungie studio!

                              • The complaints have already rolled in. It's the b.net forums so it's not surprising. Imagine knowing that the Grandmaster strike and Trials wins can be entirely skipped, still receive the large Dust payout at the end, and still complain that the game is forcing you to do things. Why even play the game if you don't want to play the game to begin with?

                                  • It’s just one of the insignificant challenges for the season that only nets XP. Players can choose to do all of these challenges or choose to not. Since they have nothing besides XP tied to them, it doesn’t matter if you complete it or not. You don’t lose out on bright dust or any other rewards. If you don’t want to do a GMNF, don’t. I’m not concerned at all about completing the gambit challenges because I don’t enjoy Gambit. These challenges will more than likely not get completed by S14, my XP will be reset at the start of S14, so I care not.
