Bungie, i loved your game, have loved it since release. People were unhappy during year 1, yes including myself. Still the game was far better then, than it is now.
With the 2 major things, sunsetting and the DCV, you ruined the game in my opinion. You have to realise one thing while treating this shell of a game as a cash cow Bungie. Theres not much engagement from new players anyways because the reputation of D2 is irreparable. Not many new players check this game out/stick with it. It's also due to current long time players being unhappy and telling others about the state of the game.
If you are unable to satisfy your current playerbase, the new players will stay away aswell.
I played this game since release of D1 and only started really playing "hardcore" with Forsaken and stuck with it for 2 whole years. I never went hardcore in D1 because of controller only and never went hardcore in D2Y1 because the general sentiment on the game was bad, it felt "dead". Playing games, especially mmos, that feel "dead" isn't fun. Beginning with Forsaken, i played for 4-6 hours per day on average (obviously more on weekends and less during workdays) for 2 years and had fun through all of it. Since Beyond Light launched, i play around 1-2 hours per week if even.
Yes, when theres stuff to grind, new exotics, cool random rolled weapons like the kinetic cold front with dragonfly (rip the only desirable weapon since Beyond light launched) i still put in hours because i love special and cool, unique stuff. But generally your 2 introductions with Beyond Light, sunsetting and the DCV turned even dedicated players like myself who still enjoy the gameplay itself extremely into a 2 hour per week Larry.
It literally felt depressing, when i wandered through the tower this morning. I decided to look at everything thats gone in the tower and the directory. I felt numb and turned the game off. I saw all the emptyness, all the great memories and just saw a free to play life support shell of a former alive and fun video game. Everything is gone, all the meaningful NPC's are gone, all the attached activities, gone.
We had factions, we had the nine with trials of the nine and Reckoning, the gates to the Black armory are closed, the mystical robot sweeping the floor who could only be talked to after finishing the beautiful raid on the leviathan ship, the raids themselves, all the pvp maps, the strikes, the destinations, all the weapons, quests, all gone.
You know what would have been a semi better approach Bungie? To just figure out how to compress and optimise the game size, make stuff as an optional DLC download if you really do not plan on supporting it anymore. Tons of games to that. I want to chose myself if i want to clutter my harddrive with Destiny 2 content that i love. Who are you to decide to delete everything that made this game great? I don't want to play the "i paid for it, you can't take it away from me" card but technicall thats still my view.
Legally, yes you can do what you do. Is it right tho? NO. You deleted the soul from the game and people slowly realize it. There is nothing to do in Destiny besides stretched soulless, crappy content thats being served seasonally with minimal effort. You could have just kept supporting the already great content that was in the game and milked it that way. People would have been fine with that rather than your apporoach of taking it all away, everything we loved.
And for my last point. When you say stuff is vaulted and can come out of the vault at any given time, we all know how you treat stuff that you remove from the game to make it "better". We never see it again or it's being re-released in the exact same state. Looking at you Trials of the nine playspaces, gear and weapons which were the most amazing pieces of gear in the whole franchise arguably, the factions, pvp maps that went into the vault for a few seasons and came out exactly the same and untouched.
Bungie, its time to rethink your priorities. This game as it is now is just straight up bad. And thats coming from someone who definitely has put in the time and heart to objectively judge the state of the game and also desperately wants it so succeed. The game is on life support, atleast give us the previous content back, revert sunsetting and milk your cash cow by supporting the old content we loved. The new content you half-heartedly produce with minimal effort aint it chief.

They won’t.

Absolutely nothing will change unless everyone stops buying silver.

i agree that Bungie has to fix this! i think that instead of sunsetting weapons at once, they should take the time to look at the weapons that the players like and dislike and make a decision from there, not just say "hey! these weapons are old! nobody probably uses them anymore! lest sun set them!". some players like to use old weapons, so Bungie should look at a weapon and see what the player base thinks about it and go on from there. Bungie also has to communicate with the player base a bit more and fix issues that we think that needs to be fixed.

1 ReplyEveryone will complain so here is my list which I don’t think is unreasonable honestly 1. PvP matchmaking is terrible. Need a better system 2. More PvP game modes. A gun game would be fun or other creative thoughts (I know it’s bungie so there goes that) 3. More reason to play trials. Random bounties and drops during playing with adapt weapons that don’t sunset for flawless. 4. More maps for both strikes and PvP. Not hard. 5. More loot and gear (obvious) 6. Fix your raids. Stop allowing glitches on everything and cheeses 7. Tune the abilities some - shatter dive shouldn’t kill you unless you are frozen in the ice for example 8. No reason to not have factions. Used to love pledging to dead orbit and progressing. Why remove this? 9. Make the game hard again. Everything about d2 is catered to people who want no challenge now. Nightfalls in D1 had extinguish on always, had better modifiers and that went for most activities. You give us gems like the whisper quest but get lazy on strikes. Makes no sense. That’s just some

I hit the same wall. I've been playing on and off since launch. I love D2, I've had so much fun with it and the different expansions (even CoO). I finally started raiding last year when COVID started, and that was amazing. I was super hyped for BL, but now it feels like everything is gone. I miss pre-BL so much, if I could go back I would. I want to have fun playin Destiny, but I'm really not, and it makes me so sad. I desperately hope that Bungie gets the game to a point where it's fun again.

44 RepliesEdited by Yosemite Sam: 1/10/2021 5:46:56 PMBefore way too many players on this forum come in and make their oh so special one-liner trying to trigger you or other stupid replies because they only read your title (hoping to shut this post down?) Ignore them, they are a pure waste of this forum's time and most of them are only on this forum to try to trigger players. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/258046747?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1 This link right here shows how (the majority of this community feels about the current state of the game, and they have ever right because of how poorly Bungie handled things this last entire year or so.) You are 100% correct that the game is in a really bad state that the entire game is the worst it has ever been since the base game that was literally a flop, and with the current members being on the board like NetEase that is a mobile game company? that is the worst thing that could have ever happened to this game. This game has no future of ever-improving as it did in Y3 of D1 ROI and it's in its 4th year. That's pretty damn bad that it is 4 years later and the game is basically right back to the base game again. The only way I ever see this game moving forward and actually improving is if this company stops being so selfish and actually puts the resources back into this game where it belongs that we are paying for among a couple of other changes that isn't just one person vision of the game. We shouldn't be paying them to support their other projects so they can leave this game on the back burner.

2 RepliesSo, I think, after being on the rant for a while, that I have figured out the deal. - Bungie was at the timeline where they were contemplating Destiny 3 - They looked at the risk/cost vs. reward of building out a new game vs. making Destiny 2 support the intended storyline and features of Destiny 3 - In the end, they realized it would be cheaper and easier (given COVID and reduced staff because of the break with Activision and work on new games) to just TURN DESTINY 2 INTO DESTINY 3 with the expansion of Beyond Light - This helps to explain all the bugs and imbalances, because they did some major changes to the game engine to support upcoming changes - They were FORCED to remove 80% of the game's content, because so much was not compatible with the game-engine changes, and would have had to be re-worked to keep - They also decided that the LOSS of many players was tolerable because they have already made so much money off us, and they would gain new players in the process (via hype, press-releases, marketing) … So, please realize that Destiny 2 Beyond Light is really Destiny 3: RED-HEADED STEPCHILD COVID VERSION. They knew it would not be good, but they didn't care, from a business standpoint. They knew the EULA would cover them legally, even though they removed tons of content that we all payed for (which wouldn't have happened if they had made Destiny 3 a separate game). … What does this mean? It means for me that I did not buy Beyond Light, and I will not purchase any more expansions or games from Bungie, until I see proved value in the purchase. And, if the EULA states that they can take away content after I purchase it, that will factor into my decision as well.
-
Bungie are happy though. The game, the decisions, the amount of content, the events, the sandbox, the mm, the seasons, sunsetting, the resources put into the game, everything, is by design not chance or happenstance. Why? They're making more than enough money to function as a wider entity (new IP, publishing and whatnot), doing exactly as they are doing with D2. There is a core group of players that will buy and continue to buy each and every expansion / season regardless of size or quality, probably some silver in there too. And There is a steady enough turnover of F2P players buying enough silver (with some going on to buy expansions etc). On the one hand, it sucks for me as I think the game is awful now, has been for most of D2, and I don't see it ever hitting the heights I expected from it. On the other hand, good for them!

why is it difficult for people to understand their "feelings" have no place in the company's decisions? why is so difficult to grasp that you don't have to like the direction at all, and it doesn't matter because it's set in stone? the company offers a product. how much you used to like it vs how much you dislike it is only a you thing. the game will be what it is, if you like it, dislike it, play it, or don't. the game needs improvement, of that there is no doubt. yet there is very little as a consumer you can do aside from like and support it, dislike and don't. it's a piece of entertainment, not a life partner or goal in life. when you aren't entertained, do something else.

I think Bungie has it's priorities well thought out and Destiny 2 falls into the "EOL, milk it for what it's worth to fund development of other things" bucket

7 RepliesPro or Anti Sunsetting, the addition of arbitrary, artificial level caps has done something I think we all can agree with: SPLIT THE COMMUNITY. Clearly sunsetting is so abhorrent and odiferous to some that they are truly quitting the game altogether. If they rescinded sunsetting (recognizing it as a huge mistake) to bring lapsing players back, would the same Pro-sunsetting folks then quit? I kinda doubt it. PS: Even Paul Tassi of Forbes, who WAS previously pro-sunsetting, now sees it as a blight to the game as per his 10-Jan-2021 article. What a mess.

Bungie money making scheme philosophy: Hype up the game/content, unwhelm player base. Fix the game, then slowly undo all positive changes. Alienate the player bases. Then hype game and bring in new players to replace old players. Repeat as many times as need be.

Bungie: We’ve heard your feedback, we’re adding more Sunsetting and fixing cold front firefly, it’s just too powerful and game breaking.

1 ReplyAfter many years of grinding, and memories since the D1 alpha days, I’m calling it. I’ve had my fun, I have my memories. I had a good time. The game isn’t the same game I fell for many years ago. To those that still play, have a good time and I hope you experience the memories I got to have. I’m sure many will still enjoy what it has to offer. To those I’ve raided with and tea bagged in comp, thanks for the good times. At a certain point, it’s just time to move on. Can’t wait to see what Bungie makes next.

1 ReplyI put around 1,000 hours into D2. I payed for the base game and all dlc up to the point that I quit. I built a new pc just to play D2 when I started. Even had a dedicated D2 SSD lol I had a vault stuffed with god rolls, and a maxed out hunter and warlock. My titan was not used much so his gear was not great but was decent enough. As soon as I heard about sun setting and vaulting I completely lost interest in playing D2. So did the friend I played with who had played just as much if not more than me. We both deleted it and have not touched it since. I am not regrinding all my gear every season. That is complete bull crap. Find good gear, level it up and then throw it away. Try to find the same gear, then grind allover again. I payed for content in the game that is just gone now. Can bungie do that? sure. Did it piss me off? Sure did. And yes I still played the old content. I check back every once in a while to see what is going on, hoping that bungie might undo this, or at least improve it. But I know they will most likely never do that. I still have not found a game I enjoyed as much as D2. We talk about it once in a while, we miss it. But we are not going to play. Not after what has been done to it. It's a dried up husk of what it once was.
