whisper should be an energy special now that it's nerfed it should get the treatment theses exotics did
At the start of Destiny 2 Merciless was an exotic heavy fusion rifle and was turned into a special fusion rifle. Whisper of the worm was originally the Black Hammer in Destiny 1. Later it turned into an exotic version (Black Spindle), but it was a special weapon. In Destiny 2 it returned as the Whisper of the worm. Whisper of the worm was a heavy weapon and had its OG unnerfed perk. Now that Whisper of the worm is now nerfed, should it return to the special slot like Merciless since Titan barricades and Luna faction rifts reload weapons from reserve anyways?

No. Whisper is a strong enough heavy-hitter to stay in the Power slot without breaking anything. Even with a nerfed White Nail it still puts in work. If any weapon in the heavy slot should be pushed into the special slot it'd most likely be Queenbreaker.

3 RepliesI think its fine in heavy just needs a buff. I talked about this before cause I love using snipers. I was blaming raiders, pvp, and bungie for the nerf. Some people agreed with me while others I had to explain why it needs a buff.

Whisper is fine as it is. It's a good option for boss dps, if you moved it to special it would deal less damage and wouldnt be viable for almost anything

No. It is still one of the best boss DPS weapons in the game. It just loses out to Xenophage because XP-and-Divinity is easier to use. It was just nerfed to the point that it no longer breaks the game and it’s ammo economy. White nail should have never been returned to the game as a perk. It was broken as a raid weapon perk...and making it into an exotic perk wasnt going to make it less broken. Then you add all the ways we can buff weapon damage....

It's damage output STILL beats out most other heavies, it loses mainly to falling gilloutine right now. A sniper that doesn't belong in the heavy slot is DARCI (less they bump its reload/damage).

Ehhhhh, I don’t know it does a lot of damage per hit. I think if they changed it to special they would need to tone down the damage, and maaaaaaaybe turn the infinite ammo back on

It's still pretty strong and it rewards very good precision with huge damage. Sending it to the special slot looks like a death sentence to me. I mean, just look at Borealis. It used to be one of the highest dps in the game

This thing is, there are 2 parts to the power of whisper, the ammo regeneration, and the dps, the ammo is nerfed sure, but the dps is very very good, which can't be a special weapon, sadly. They could buff it's breathing perk to 50% and keep it heavy, or nerf it's damage a bit and make it special.

Oh and what ever happened to “bringing back the whisper of old” the whole thing was marketed as be the original whisper with its original perks in tact then it just got needed anyway!

I mean, Whisper was put into the game because of how bad DPS was in year 1 of D2 and also to be a homage to Black Spindle. Back in D1 things had a good feeling of powerful so Black Spindle would work. But if Whisper was put into special and have no nerfs then it would be the best option in almost every activity. Kinda like Izanagi when it got buffed. So I really think whisper is in a good place where it is because I think it is one of the most balanced heavy exotics in Destiny

1 ReplyBad idea. When crits + catalyst are active, Whisper still deals some of the best DPS in the game. You would have to nerf the gun to make it a special, which is never the right thing to do.

1 ReplyI'd probably never use it then. Energy slot is bloated and I'm not wasting an energy slot for Whisper. Also, that unlimited ammo perk would have gotten a nerf sooner or later.
