DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR

after visiting my sister recently I saw the worst side of the players of this game. my 15 year old nephew was playing one of the pvp modes, he gets invited to a private match, then his team starts abusing and messing with him. he is obviously getting upset as we hear him from the other room. I went in watched for a few minutes then took his headset and jumped into the conversation. as I used to play I can hold my own with toxic players. after a few minutes the reason they are abusing my nephew comes out. one player was on a 9 game win streak and lost the 10th and according to him my nephew didn't get double figures therefore he was the reason his streak broke. straight up you people who cant handle losing or the fact that others are actually better than you are truly pathetic. but to attack a 15 year old who isn't the type to stoop to this level is absolutely unacceptable. just who do you people think you are, if he talked trash and brought it upon himself I wouldn't be here. but he isn't the type, he just likes to play. back when I played I knew the type, but this is next level. GET IT STRAIGHT 1-THERE ARE PEOPLE BETTER THAN YOU GET OVER IT 2-ITS A GAME WHO CARES IF YOU WIN OR LOSE ITS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN REMEMBER 3-YOU CHOSE TO PLAY WITH THE CIRCUMSTANCES BUNGIE PROVIDE, STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE

  • This I almost a destiny 2 problem itself. Bungie has never addressed the toxicity this games promotes and they keep designing the game to make it worse. I can play cod and meet some of the chilliest people ever. I try to play comp and all I get is tea bagging and spamming emotes is even from twitch streamers. This is just how bungie operates and this is their ideal gaming experience

    • Unfortunately some people just suck the fun out of a game that brings all of us some from of solace during this uncertain time. A good way for your nephew not to be subject to this kind of behavior is to simply report and block. Also not to join randoms after a loss. That is how most toxic folks lure in teammates to grief after they lose. Maybe even finding some chill players on lfg or a clan to help with completely bypass even dealing with them. Again sorry for the bad players and those attacking you in the comments regardless of your actions this is about your nephew and no one should be getting attacked in a thread about toxicity. Peace and Blessings.

    • Terrible behaviour from the other guys, but there are ways to avoid it, don’t let him join team chat when he is playing by himself.

      • Welcome to the wonderful world of video games. A lot of gamers are a-holes by nature. That just comes with the territory. It's even worse with Destiny, because the added aura of competition that Bungie pushes. You will always find people like that whenever competition is involved, and it's worse the younger they are. This is why I have never been enamored with multiplayer only games. Think that's bad, try competitive R/C car racing. Holy smoke. I've seen several fist fights break out and it's even worse if there is cash prize money involved.

          • I'm sorry he had to go through this. Some people are like this in the community. It's not cool, no. The greatest rule is to reach zen. Don't play into their game. Don't join matches with people you don't know. Don't accept invites from strangers unless it's for a raid or to team up in a match. There are toxic people in all gaming communities. We don't like em either, but they are there.

          • SIMPLE ANSWER: Don't care. Just don't accept the private match. People will be pieces of trash no matter if its in real life or in a game. I've had people say I threw the Gambit Prime match and that I'm utter trash, even though I did Reckoner solo in about 17 active hours. Its all about how much you care. If some toxic idiot challenges me to a private match you can bet I'll go put on a flawless emblem, Wormhusk, Mountaintop, Gnawing Hunger, dodge-invis Nightstalker and straight up abuse them. While those people are toxic you should just teach your nephew not to care or not to accept invites from strangers, its not always the community at fault, and neither is it yours.

            • Really great potential for a teachable moment here. Anyone who is 15, 5, 25, or any age at all. Sometimes people will blame you for things. Some of these people will be polite about it, and lay out step by step why they feel your performance led to failure, and will be constructive. Ideally, they will even help you improve. Other times, people will blame you for their own failures and will not be polite or constructive. Their inability to deal with defeat gracefully can cause them to lash out for a number of reasons, When faced with this type of negativity, try not to internalize it. Try to realize that these people are saying whatever they need to and acting however they need to in order to make themselves feel better for that failure regardless of how it makes you feel. That’s easier said than done, of course, but a couple points to try and help: It’s about making themselves feel better. It is in complete disregard for others. So it really isn’t about you at all, it’s about them. So to internalize and take to heart what they are saying is to accept that you’re the cause of their success or failure. By making you the cause of their success or failure, they are showing you that they feel powerless on their own ability to succeed, and that you have that power over them. So hopefully that makes it easier to let those kind of situations roll off your back and not put any importance to what they say about you. TL;DR: When people are toxic, disregard them. Mute, block, move on.

                • Obviously its dumb he messaged him. Obviously it's silly to be complaining about a 9 win streak lol. But this:
1-THERE ARE PEOPLE BETTER THAN YOU GET OVER IT
And this:
3-YOU CHOSE TO PLAY WITH THE CIRCUMSTANCES BUNGIE PROVIDE, STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE
Aren't necessarily applicable, sure there are better players out there but if the angry guy was destroying them and lost because his teammate basically threw the enemy team werent better right? And who would said angry player blame? Himself for doing well?

As you can see from the game and the comments, people online are largely toxic as hell. It doesn't make them any less of a group of pathetic losers, but it's one of those things that's widespread enough that you've got to learn to deal with it rather than expect the d-bags to grow up and quit being morons over a virtual game that has absolutely no bearing on their actual lives. Better just to teach him to avoid private lobbies in general. 99% of them are just losers that take the game too seriously anyway.
