I don't get how sunsetting armor will solve the "problem" of power creep in weapons... :S

Masterworking armor is extremely expensive. No, not if you find the time to run master nightfall after master nightfall every week. But for the majority of players masterworking armor is expensive. Never mind trying to perfectly min/max that armor. And now it's going to get sunset? I don't get why that is going to get implemented at all. It wasn't mentioned in Luke Smith's original post. It only mentioned weapons and how Bungie is anxious people will start play the game once the grind is over and maybe not like it.... So therefore extend the grind and make you earn all your weapons all over again. And now armor is added to that list.... :S Honestly Bungie, some explanation is needed how sunsetting armor will solve power creep in weapons. EDIT: Thanks for the upvotes! I see a lot of posts explaining to me there isn't any power creep. And I 100% agree. That's why I wrote "Problem" in the title and not Problem. ;)

  • It won’t. Only thing it will do is reduce the player base. How did they think it was a good idea to bring around this change after possibly the worst season in destiny history. I swear everything they do is just a slap in the face now, it’s like they want players to quit smh

  • It all because Luke Smith has absolutely no clue what he is doing, zero, absolute 0%. From throw money at your screen, to all the lies, to all the BS, all the nerfs, bountie caroucel, even less coherent story telling. From vendors to mengerie and from Trials to Crucible all old loot.... He super anti social and akward aswell so goodjob ever making him the leader....

  • Bungie: we are going to sunset gear because power creep bad. Also Bungie: gives everyone Felwinter's Lie, which is arguably (perk and archetype) the BEST shotgun in the game and short of it being nerfed into the ground nothing will ever be better than that for a whole year unless they make an even better one. Me: 🤔 sounds like power creep, especially in PvP.

    • Because they are focusing on time played to warrant their asking price per season. Instead of “content”, they are focusing on chases. Re-grind weapons, re-grind armor, drawn out “community” goals, and quests. Time played is easier to justify over content to actually play through. See shadowkeep.. easy chase per “story” then a grind loop to progress the extra 15 minutes of connected story. With each year, ie fall, they want to re-new everything for any newer players joining the game so that advantages(ie bungies “power creep”) are not had by the veterans of the franchise with god roll builds. Combine everything... and we have the current state of d2.

    • I changed 3 sets of armor until I was finally happy with the amount of stats and the proportions. So this is now a single working set of armor that I have, built around specific exotic. I wanna change the exotic, I would most likely have to assemble 4 completely different legendary armor pieces to make it work... And they are telling me, that they plan to basically destroy all I farmed for... no tnx. If they proceed with the sunsetting nonsense, I quit and I am not going to buy anything from them.

    • IMO: With the first season pass, we all rightfully complained that the pass armor was too low in stats, thus rendering it useless. So BNG now gives is very high stat rolls on pass armor. But now, everyone just uses the armor from Saint 14s season after masterworking it, and that's it.BNG wants high stat rolled armor to be rewarded from endgame activities, but also recognizes the pass problem. No one wants to play endgame to obtain items that will only help them in endgame...after they already cleared endgame stuff... It's marginally better anyway. So everyone just uses the same thing all the time. [b]All that being said...[/b] we have no hope in BNG creating cool, unique, borderline broken armor and weapons, that are desirable, due to lots of misteps by BNG. Just look at the Guardian Games class item. I thought GG itself was awful, but I think the class items are badass. But they decrease my intellect by like 20 or something. [b]BIG MEH[/b].. Lastly, removing stuff and selling it back to us, or removing stuff and then having us re-earn it just to sell us an overpriced skin for it, is annoying. And consumables arent endgame rewards!

    • Remember recluse? Take that unnerf it but cap its power after a year and bam you get something thats stays on top in top tier activities for that year but then after that year its no longer an issue in top end activities and they can push out something thats just as powerful or better that stays top dog for a year. By doing so they dont have to balance new content around old weapons and perks. Should lead to less specific weapon nerfs overall if done correctly.

      • The way I look at it sun setting is a good idea because atleast you can still use said items in non powerful events and activities they could do what they did in destiny 1 and just let your items become completely irrelevant( pore fatebringer was left behind for 3 years or so 😕)

            It was never about solving a problem. It was about creating one. Powercreep doesnt exist, otherwise itd apply to exotics too.

            • The thing is if they had implemented sun setting post Forsaken like TTK it wouldn't have been as bad, irritating but not as bad. Unfortunately they waited over two year after random rolls were reintroduced and people spent that time building up their gear. Bungie said this would solve power creep in which it won't, a tweet from Andrew Hopps said "You know how Recluse shits on everything in PvE? Weapon sunsetting means we can add more weapons that shit on everything and they just eventually fall behind in power. New weapons that shit on everything can be added without constant power creep." so hypothetically they add a Recluse level weapon for that year, that means the meta load out for pve/pvp will revolve around said weapons for that entire year and defeats their argument towards "power creep". Me personally, I like seasonal sandbox changes to keep things fresh instead ever level cap and sun setting is not only lazy but a easy way out. Power creep progress at a slow pace, it doesn't happen over night and as long as they stop introducing more damage dealing perks and control what they buff there will be no problem. All Bungie need to do is show certain archetypes some love and to come up with different perks like demolitionist, lead from gold, overflow, or more area of effect perks uniquely like meganeura etc. They're only assuming we want more damage dealing perks and a lower time to kill and believe me if Bungie can create perks in which I stated, a defense of lack of innovation is invalid. Hell they could introduce akimbo (duel wielding) smg's and sidearms with the caveat being you can't aim down sight and shared ammo reserves to balance them, same can be said with swords. I hate to bring this up but how do you think Warframe a free to play game, was said to fail just like Destiny was able to survive all this time and stay relevant with little to no controversy and backlash. It's because the devs of Warframe care about its community and doesn't half-ass their content or make excuses, example: they had a loot box system but took it out because they didn't what their player base slot machine gambling and that's what builds trust and loyalty with their brand.

            • There is a reason for sunsetting armor. Seasonal mods and mods like armaments. I get infinite heavy vs fallen hive and taken.

                It doesn't solve power creep and no there isn't any power creep currently This is for Bungie, they can recycle content that's already ingame and force incentive with loot retirement. It promotes sales of new seasons, locks players out of content who don't buy seasons and pads out grinds. For Bungie it probably looks like an absolute win because they get to work less and have us players grind more, but they neglected to remember the fact that we players hate reskined shit

              • The primary 'power creep' in this game is players feeling too powerful, where they don't spend money in Eververse. All other weapons/armor/values that are too powerful to balance the amount of content, are secondary/tertiary. The owner isn't in this to help young adults evolve into sustainable adults. Greed is far too primary in his equation - otherwise this game would still be peaking at TTK levels, and the primary charity would be Gaming Addiction.

              • What does it really matter? Everything in this game is ass, just some things are a little less ass than others. I have so many weapons in Borderlands 3 I can use just about anything and do well cause its all good and some of it is great. I cant think of one gun in D2 that I think is noteworthy, riskrunner is ok for mobbing, and sunshot is ok for the same reason, I mean there are weapons that are okay but nothing that I would say is great or OP. So lets be real they are getting rid of some old crummy gear to give you some new crummy gear, it will all still be meh so what does it matter?

                Bungie themselves say, this is to “prevent” powercreep. Its not in the game. They say this needs to be done to prevent it. -Exotics being left alone defeats the purpose. -armor has zero to do with the purpose and is being done to sell transmog $$$$$$. -everyone brings up mntntop and recluse. Then balance them. Maybe have yearly pinnacles and sunset only those. History shows this will go poorly. This isnt necessary, its the easiest solution to, man we arent very good at balancing our game. If our lawn has 3-4 weeds, pick them. Bungie is replacing the lawn. However, they will most likely be using the same sod they just removed, to do so. Yeah, time to regrind spare rations or its nephew rare spations. People arent not playing because all loot is bad. They are skipping because the content has either been bad or same old tired stuff we’ve been doing since menagerie, but 1/10th as good. Vex invasions and seraph towers suck. Plain and simple. Fix the biggest issue, which is lack of meaningful content and people will continue to play. People always bring up TTK as an example of success here. It doesnt work. 1- many left completely or played way less after it. 2- those that loved it, did so because we were punched in the mouth with shit to do. Very few loved it because they lost the gally or fatebringer, which were sold back eventually. They love it because we had a lot to do for a while.

                Sunsetting armour is boneheaded. It's possibly the dumbest idea to do with armour they could come up with. The entire system in this game is utter garbage. Having a band between X0 and X9 where any number that falls in-between those points has NO purpose whatsoever is just dumb. Not to mention the scarcity of resources to upgrade armour regularly without it being a mind numbingly tedious task for EVERY upgrade you want to do that involves prisms and ascendant shards. AND Yet!! instead of addressing the inherent problems of their own poor progression design they waste time making seasonal mod sets with gimmicks that people then just ignore because of the aforementioned issues. ('charged with light' and the 'warmind cell' mods...nice ideas, but most won't even bother to arse about with any of it...it's just wasted development time for the most part) I wouldn't imagine that taking more stuff away that people have earned, whilst not addressing the mess that it is the gear progression system or the resource issue is going to go down well at all with the community...but, on their head be it.
