I'd much rather see Trials locked behind gameplay hours/activity completions than a current season pass purchase

I've bought D2, Y1 Pass, Forsaken, Y2 Pass, Shadowkeep, Season 9 Pass... overall I've spent over $200 on Destiny 2. I understand that a paywall would mitigate the amount of cheaters on steam, but requiring a current season pass is overkill. Basically it makes ToO a subscription based service by itself for PvP players. Obviously neither solution is ideal (I don't think I had 100 hours in the game before I stepped into Trials in D1 the first time), but if Bungie can't implement a system that detects any purchase after Y1 Free2Play content to count towards the requirement, I'd much rather see the req tied to in-world (not orbit afk) hours or crucible games completed than a paid service to re-up every 3 months.

    • You can just go into patrol and use a macro to keep inputting random commands to prevent getting booted.

        • I don't get why people say both at the same time. One or the other will remove the mass majority of cheaters from Trials. We don't want the Trials playbase to completely fall off the map. It's already on a downward spiral. Free to Play players should have the opportunity to see what ToO is about if they have the time investment, and casual players that have paid for ANY license of D2 content have already earned their right to the playlist. For everyone saying $40 isn't "that much" to pay for a year of trials.. it's one game mode! One! 40 bux a year? For a single playlist? Please say sike lol. $40 was the price of Rise of Iron, Forsaken, Shadowkeep.. that can be played for more than one year. There's no way that Trials of Osiris by itself has a comparable amount of content. It'd be another story if the Crucible half of the game was already a separate paid license (including ToO), but it's not, and it shouldn't be imo. Additionally, when Trials of Osiris was reintroduced Bungie explicitly stated that it would be available to every player of Destiny 2, regardless of Season Pass purchase. I really hope they will stick to this. A time commitment is really the only fair way to gatekeep the playlist. Lastly, if a strict S.P. paywall is ever implemented, it should only affect PC players. The account hopping cheaters almost exclusively operate on Steam and console players are already paying a subscription to XBL or PSN to have access to multiplayer content (the whole game of D2 falls under this).

        • Should be both. If you’ve bought all those previous expansions, you are likely to buy the season (or the deluxe edition of shadowkeep which paid for the whole year) which means it really won’t affect you.

        • It should be both. a reasonably high play time, 30 to 40 hours of activity time and the purchase of season pass. The goal is to make it not worth a cheaters time to turn and burn accounts while keeping it accessible to those who play straight up. For a legit player $10 every 3-4 months is not really a much of a barrier and the playtime is not one at all, but for someone getting their accounts banned it becomes a time sink.

I'm glad to see that Bungie is considering this decision. Personally, I would prefer both, or whatever the "time" requirements ends up being, even 50 hours would be fine. Endgame PvE - Master/GM level NF's, Current Raid (GOS), Dungeon (POH) and Master NM Hunts are all gated by a license purchase AND some decent amount of hours put into the game to have a standing chance in the form of "power level". I don't see why endgame PvP couldn't have a similar treatment.

        • id rather seen it cost the price of a full dlc and not just a season pass, and id be good with 500 plus hours played. If you want to "limit" cheaters from getting banned and making a new account. 40 bux a pop, plus its impossible to play 500 hours in a week. so it would take multiple weeks for a cheater to be able to comeback.

        • Well but real playtime not staying for 2 days mostly in Orbit. Guess several Factors would even be better. Playtime 100 hours, at least killed 10000 enemy's in PvE., got 10000 triumph points and powerlevel 950.
