What's the problem with Trials being power level based?

If a slightly lower light level pvp player wants to play a 950 or 980 level Nightfall, then they know they'll have to grind for higher power in order to play it. It's pve endgame content; you go into it knowing that you need to be high level and no one seems to complain. What's the difference with trials being power level based? You go into the mode, fully aware that it's pvp endgame content, so you need to level up beforehand in order to stand a reasonable chance. If we're honest, the difference between a 950 level and a 970 level player in Iron Banner isn't really a big deal; if I play at 750 power level, then I know beforehand that it's going to be a fruitless slog...so I level up. So what really is the issue that people have? It's endgame content.

  • The problem is there will be players who play all day everyday and get pinnacle weapons fast then block everyone else that takes longer and now that pinnacle weapons will expire what’s the point of even putting yourself through the frustration? After a month or two the only players that will play trials are streamers and tryhards.

  • The problem is the infinite levels provided by the artifact. Everyone can grind gear up to the max fairly easily. Not everyone can spend 100 hours a week on the moon doing bounties. It becomes a game based on who plays the most rather than who is better.

    • You think the guy that grinds bounties and lost sectors all day everyday deserves an advantage over the guy who plays PvP everyday?... because Crucible does not give you enough XP to keep up with PvE players. Plus this really sucks for players who have a life and can't play 40+ hours a week to keep up. In what is supposed to be a competitive game mode where you need sequential wins to advance, light level advantages are a pretty damn big deal. Especially when a 20 level difference means my super won't kill opponents in one hit and my guns all take an extra round or two to kill while they're simultaneously doing more damage to me.

      • Sounds like they don't want to play against better players, sort of like why I like SBMM, so I don't have to play against better players.

      • Probably because instead of focusing on skill it's more focused on who no life's the game more.

      • Stop being reasonable and having and sharing mature ideas. This forum is for the mentally unstable to whine and cry how much they hate the game. I get that the game can frustrate a player . However, If a person cannot take break and walk away then there are psychological issues many destiny players need to deal with. I completely agree with your logic about the so called light level issue many are crying about. Either play and level up or don't. It's not rocket science. For those that say they have a life and cannot play many hours each day then why complain about something like a video that you don't invest much time to? Some of the posts where people are telling others to hang themselves are sickening and quite few players in the destiny community sound like they need help and maybe should take a break if they get that upset about a video game. Sorry for rambling, your post was so refreshing after reading the nonsense some have posted in the last few days

        • People want small advantages, like weapon perks and armor rolls that you can spend time grinding for but not large advantages like +40LL because you spend 12 hours a day doing bounties. It's different multiples of the same thing, spending time to gain an advantage in PvP. One might get you a 4% advantage and the other 12% (or more, or less. I don't know if any numbers have been released to show what the new scales are). The bigger problem is Bungie has competitive, winner takes all PvP built on a sandbox that isn't an even playing field. Bungie failed at getting into eSports miserably, CoD did not. Both were under Activision's umbrella, so it wasn't the opportunity and exposure. Bungie needs to relax a bit and just let crucible be about fun a bit more. The game wasn't designed for absolute balance in the sandbox. There's nothing with modes that reward skill more, but I think they go overboard with balancing the game for them.

          • The artifact is the problem. It allows streamers, or people who can dedicate days on end to grinding up the artifact far beyond other players to gain a significant level advantage in trials. Disable the artifact and its fine.

            • Especially considering that everyone just camps with a sniper rifle and spams grenades until they have ult in trials. A headshot from a sniper doesn’t care what your LL is.

              • You thought people got to silly power levels this season? Just wait till trials comes. Endgame doesn't mean people should be excluded because they haven't grinded out a million bounties.

                • Trials should be about the skill ...not who has the most free time to grind bounties to level an artifact to have an advantage

                  • Most of us are not catching hold of it due to the fact that we always had it.....What we didn't always have is the artifact which allows endless levels. I know you say well we have it in Banner...Lets be serious though Banner is absolutely keeping similar numbers of light grouped....If Trials does that it might be fine but if it matchmakes only as described first based on connection quality second on card status then that limitless light number is a problem as it will easily allow people who grind light to tank supers and other instant kills in a competitive play mode.

                  • Don't understand this trend either 🙄 Iron Banana and Trials always been like this and should be kept this way cause they're above an average quickplay match.

                  • Right now the highest level players are the ones that have the most time to play. Those with the most time have an advantage.
