Destiny 2’s latest raid has been a subject to controversy ever since release. Let’s discuss it.
Loot. It’s the motivator and reward for such a task. The GoS armour definitely looks the part, it looks worthwhile but not perfectly compatible with shaders, a shame but tolerable. The GoS weapons are randomly rolled, a shame as it means no new unique perks but some interesting combinations are possible (Auto rifle with triple tap?), the designs however don’t match the armour but are very good nonetheless, highly compatible with shaders and the archetypes are all currently META so nothing to complain there. Divinity is the raid exotic, and a unique support weapon with reasonable damage on its own. No heavy weapons however, pretty disappointing.
Mechanics. To each their own, but nonetheless. Miscommunication is common, two teams doing seperate mechanics (voltaic and angelic, enlightenment and defence, eyes and motes, enlightenment and motes), it’s inevitable but tolerable. The tether mechanic is partially glitchy and too slow, enlightenments and rebuilding should be immediate upon full connection, not a lil animation slow before it registers. Motes are okay, supplicants suck. And I’d say it needs a little bit more time after damage phases for the team to reposition and reorganise.
Lore, the Kentarch-3 team is interesting but ultimately just provides context for the raid and it’s exotic rather than additional story.
Other, the large arenas to fight and beautiful scenery makes a great experience as expected from the Black Garden, and Sol Divisive are always looking aesthetic so no complaints there. Armour mods are helpful, but the stackable feature makes most obsolete in comparison to enhanced relay defender, and they aren’t very, obviously, helpful outside the raid but nonetheless useful.

Its a VoG re imagined with some new me mechanics

I love GoS, my one problem though is with the boss phase and how annoying it can be. Especially when there’s problems with how the boss stands during damage phase can really -blam!- up a run.

3 RepliesI promise I'm saying this in a non derpy way, but I'm still waiting for a great D2 raid. They range from fair to terrible. VoG, WotM and CE (last.of which was very short, but we'll executed and had a purpose) were better than every D2 raid in my opinion. KF was on par with Last Wish.

It’s a fun raid all around , pretty easy up til the last encounter, and even that one is pretty easy once u get a solid team knowing their job assignments . Building floors quickly is key to success at final phase for sure. Mechanics - Not too difficult and pretty easy to master with some practice , I like the tethering aspect and think it’s a new original idea, and the motes are a cool gambit like implementation that feels familiar . Armor- I personally like all the armor, looks cool and drops high stat rolls usually. Weapons- Pulse is good depending on roll, Auto is good ( as good as a 720 auto can be ) , the rest are meh imo. But the fact no heavy weapons at all completely blows . Divinity is a great support weapon and definitely worth doing the quest for . I really like the fact that’s it’s not a random rng drop too, I wish all raid weapons had some sort of puzzle attached to obtain. It is a very visually beautiful raid , I’ll give them that..

10 RepliesIt kinda sucks that the raid reuses the 2 bosses it has from previous Destiny bosses. Atheon and the Restorative mind. It's an okay raid with a fun final boss

1 ReplyBest raid since Last Wish.

Edited by High Noon at Jötunn Saloon: 1/22/2020 12:51:38 PMI have 50 clears, so here's my opinion as someone who's experienced in it. Difficulty (compared to other Destiny raids not in a general gaming sense): Encounters become increasingly harder as they should. Boss is more daunting at first than others, but it's pretty easy to carry at least 1 or 2. Easier in my opinion than Crown, which is my least favorite raid in D2. Loot: The weapons themselves are pretty good aside from bows in general being awful now. The problem of course is there are 5 energy weapons and no heavy, thus hard screwing pinnacle climbs for the whole year. Legend sundial helped albeit pretty late in the game and it's only for this season. Fun factor: I had a decent amount of fun, but really no big amazing moments. Not even flawless was that great. Overall: It's in the middle of the raid pack for me. It's just a whatever raid with an annoying boss fight. Maybe a 5.5 or a 6/10.

7 RepliesThe armour is just their old trick called slap a Reskin on it and claim it's new

8 Replies"Archetypes are all currently META" *cries in auto rifle* The mechanics IMO are the best out of any raid, and the easiest to execute. 1 new core mechanic through the whole thing, which is tethering, and isn't that bugged anymore. Slow? Somewhat, but you get plenty of time. The other main mechanic is motes, but gambit exists. The challenges however are stupid. I have only done the boss one once, and rarely do the 2nd enc one

1 ReplyMechanic wise, I find it fine until the boss fight. Now, I’m certainly not a raider, and have only attempt the raid once. But for the final boss, it’s too easy to interfere with tether team and mess them up from restoring platforms. I think it’d be fine if you could choose somehow if you could be tethered or not at that point. But that’s just my take from a very inexperienced player. I’m sure all the tryhards will come here and tell me how easy it is, and how much of a noob I am. And that’s probably true with more experience. But as someone trying to learn it, it was just a b too much. I’d love to see normal mode and hard raid modes again so that you can learn the basics first with a dumbed down version of the raid.

1 ReplyMy biggest complaint is that in the last 15 encounters I've done, 11 out of 15 loot drops were energy weapons. I don't know how many 970 energy weapons one needs when most of my armor is still 969

10 RepliesThe tether mechanics aren’t glitchy.
