I do not like armor 2.0

It feels like warframe. I’m not very invested in a specific piece of gear, and instead, every piece of armor just feels like a cosmetic item now. Don’t get me wrong, it’s CONVENIENT. But this specific convenience isn’t one I wanted. 1. It kills my immersion. I get that players can’t be bothered to grind as much as I do for the best stats and perks, but the RNG grind is what keeps me playing (yes, stat rolls are a thing, but they’re so minuscule on the rng spectrum to me). Since armor 2.0 was introduced, I experienced one of my biggest dips in playing time since the period between house of wolves and taken king. I live to grind. And grinding for the right stats AND rolls on an armor piece I liked the look of gave me an attachment to the particular piece of armor. Now it just feels like I’m slotting gems in a mech suit, and that isn’t my idea of a good time. 2. When everyone is optimal, no one is. I get that players don’t have the time to grind for specific rolls. But grinding for specific rolls keeps me playing beyond the point of completing all the content. With armor 2.0, I get whatever I want provided I have the materials. And grinding materials just isn’t attractive to me. I like feeling exclusive to an optimal build that some people can’t obtain. It gives me a feeling of personal identity in the universe. 3. An element of random chance is removed. I’m gonna catch some flack for this, but I love playing the destiny slot machine. As much as I get frustrated getting trash roll after trash roll, nothing beats the moment I get the piece of gear I’ve been grinding for. Those are the pinnacle moments in destiny for me. Armor 2.0 takes that away, and instead makes it a straight and boring path to said item. I get that stat rolls have been added, but that’s it. It’s boring without the random perks. These are my opinions, and it will not reflect the entire community. I’m sure plenty of people are satisfied and happier now that they have a direct path to a better build. But I am not. Destiny 1’s armor post-Taken King was the optimal style for me because it had random stats and random perks. Getting a great looking and perfectly rolled armor piece was a bigger moment than anything destiny 2 has produced for me.

  • You're forgetting about the 6 stats that are randomly rolled on armour 2.0 - these takes time to grind for, at least if you're picky about the roll you want.

    • I firmly believe that going from random armor rolls to slotted perks was one of the best changes this game has made to armor. Before this, I would get one armor set, even if the pieces didn't match, that had the scavenger or finder perks I wanted, and I was done. I didn't want to get 50 copies of Forge armor to hopefully get that right combination of perks. Getting a class item with Bow Scavenger and Sidearm Reserves was a kick in the teeth. I ended up basically getting enough random class items to cover every Scavenger perk in the game, and I used the Tangled Shore helmet you get from killing Barons that had Heavy Lifting and Heavy Ammo Finder. That was it. My gauntlets kinda mattered for reload, but I tend to run drop mag on all my guns, and I had pre-nerf Rally Barricade, so that didn't matter. Chest and Leg armor were completely useless to me, so it became "Decide which special/heavy to use, swap out my class item and maybe my gauntlets, and that's it" It ruined armor set grinds for me too. I'm the kind of person who says "Hey, I'm gonna do the Mars Flashpoint and some EP, so I'm gonna put on my full Escalation Protocol armor set and run Polaris Lance with the Braytech rocket" or "Time for some forge grinding, I'll use my Forge armor with Ringing Nail and Anarchy today!". I could do this in 1.0, but it meant not having a full matching set or losing out on viability because my EP helmet had Primary Scavenger and my class item rolled reserve perks for guns I don't use. Because of this, I often didn't do this. With 2.0, I now have 3 full sets of different affinity Forge armor to throw on for any given weapon combo, especially with the re-introduction of generic finder perks. I also have three sets of different affinity armor that pushes me to 100 Discipline for Armament Demolitionist build, and while those sets are made of mismatched pieces, I use the Eververse ornaments to make a working Eververse set with the perks I need (my three sets use Optimacy, Phenotype, and Sunbreak gear). If I'm grinding armor from an activity, I stack all the armor I have for it on my character and delete old pieces as new ones with better stats are earned. I also have reasons to run old content again. Before, if I got a full set of Great Hunt armor, I was done. The rolls didn't matter, because it was never a concise set. Now I only have to overcome affinities to make a base functional set, and the reusable mods mean that I can slot in all the amazing Taken mods and experiment with other mods as well. This makes me want to use the armor in its home activity, so I end up raiding more for armor rolls and for the fun of it. To me, even with the annoyance of affinities and lack of high stat world drops, 2.0 is vastly superior to 1.0

      • I really like the idea of Armor 2.0. Being able to customize your gear with mods to boost certain weapons/playstyles is really good. The system just has a few glaring issues that need to be addressed. -Cost of upgrades: It simply costs too much to upgrade an armor set that you like. They should add a separate way to upgrade your armor (like simply wearing it and having it gain XP), or just reduce the cost. -Elemental Affinities: The elemental affinities should definitely be removed if Armor 2.0 is the system going forward. The elements hurt build diversity. One suggestion would be to make all weapon-related armor mods non-elemental, as that alone would make the system so much better. They could then add in new elemental mods that are based on elemental subclasses, adding in things similar to the artifact mods.

        • I agree with you that armor sucks but totally disagree with why, i actually wish it was more like warframe, in warframe you build your armor with mods, unfortunately in destiny you can only use seasonal mods so in order to use new mods you need to reobtain. I'd rather grind for unique mods than have to rework armor especially when ive masterwork peices i like.

          • I actually have been grinding for high stat rolls since last season and I still don't have a high 50 void affinity leg armor piece
