Power Levels have destroyed teamwork!

I am sad and frustrated with the way in which the power level goalposts have been moved. Last season I ground my way to 960 base power and was quite excited to start the new season and chase the new cap of 970. To do this I would need to tackle the pinnacle activities in the game as soon as possible. The problem is that none of my friends are at the same level and so if they join me for a pinnacle activity they would be wasting their pinnacle drop - normal powerful drops are what they currently need and so all they should be doing is their strikes and crucible and gambit etc to level up. I can't do this because I need the pinnacle drops before I do these activities or the powerful gear drops for me are wasted - If I get my pinnacle drops first then my powerful drops can drop above 960 too. It is a great shame because I feel I cant do anything until someone catches up with my level and of course by then, their artefact progress will be way ahead of mine & I will be playing catch up! I have quite literally switched off the game because I cant do anything! Last season I helped so many people with the pit of heresy, nightmares, nightfalls and a few raids. It was fun for all as we all got something from it. Now we cant play together without the game screwing one of us over, its just so wrong! Bungie, why could you not have left the powerful gear drop cap at 950 and just increased the hard cap to 970. This way I could still play with my friends knowing that I would be helping them and they would be helping me. That is how the game should be - surely??
