How is it possible that the devs keep reading the community so wrong?

Honestly. After 5+ years. How do tone def changes and "finales" happen? In any other loot based game, as a player. When I do X, whatever that may be, I expect there to be a Y. If I complete an activity, I, as a player, expect their to be something waiting for me at the end. And the fun of playing a game like that, is the anticipation of what that reward might be. the formula for making this a fun and repeatable process, IMO, centers on how "good" that reward might be, as it relates to the amount of effort involved in getting there. That is a simple breakdown of any loot based system. Do X, get Y. Bungie, when we log into the game, our goal is not JUST to have "fun". "Fun" is subjective. Players find "fun" in many different ways. But in a game centered on various systems of progression. That "fun" is always tied to some sort of accomplishment. Some sort of "reward". That can range from getting 30 kills in crucible. To leveling up via weekly bounties. To having that coveted piece of loot drop. But there ALWAYS needs to be something tangible that can be associated with the time spent playing. In short, there always needs to be "loot". Be it an item, character progress, change in status, whatever. There has to be SOMETHING gained for the time put in. And that, to me, is the biggest issue with Destiny. Far too often, the output does not match the input. You ask for more and more investment from the player, for what seems to be, less and less of a payoff. That's not a community problem. That's not a game systems problem. That is a problem with the core philosophy of your development and design process. Rather than being the central premise of developing the game. You treat that fundamental aspect as secondary to whatever it is you THINK is more important. And that is why people complain. That is why people are underwhelmed by things like Final Assault. Why they question what is and isn't part of Eververse. Why people generally dislike the way you manage the game. Because you prioritize your "vision" over giving people reasons to buy into that vision. When D2 launched you added Lost Sectors. And prior to launch. I was pretty excited about the idea of secret and repeatable mini dungeons, wondering what types of loot I would find. Looking forward to farming mini bosses for items I liked. But that's not what they were. That's not how they were implemented. All of these cool little areas. Fun encounters. And what was the reward? Junk items. Nothing special. Not even specific world items that could be farmed. Nope. Tokens. We got tokens to go and buy gear. Huh? What sense did that ever make in terms of a loot based game? Why waste such a cool idea? What was the point? You keep strikes in game. Yet you take the primary reason people ran them over and over again in D1 out of the equation(unique loot). Again, huh? WHO on your team thought that this was something so insignificant that it was not made a priority for launch? IN A LOOT BASED GAME? Step back, stop whatever you are working on, and take a long look at the core elements of Destiny. Remember how you sold the game to the player. Remember that YOU presented loot as being something to be hunted and coveted. A reward for both time and our ability to complete a task. Season of the Undying has all of the components needed to be successful, EXCEPT for these core elements. Core elements that have been missing since D2 launched. If I am doing Lost Sectors, or Strikes on the moon. Regardless of the vendor specific frames and bounties. There needs to be SOMETHING unique to those elements that differentiates them from season to season. Like Nightmare Hunts, the dungeons, etc. Or you need to remove them altogether. Why? Because you are constantly pushing us into these activities. You create quests that require dozens of completions of strikes, gambit, crucible, lost sectors, public events... We HAVE to do those things, apart from the new content, just to progress. To complete seasonal quests. They all remain a huge part of the grind. So they too need to be rewarding. 50 Gambit matches is a lot less annoying if it has Season of the Undying themed gear. Ornaments, weapons, shaders, whatever. Doing the same lost sector every week is a lot less tedious if there is a chance at something rare, something unique, that can ONLY be obtained in the lost sector. This is what people should get in a season. Not just an XP track where I hit a rank and collect an arbitrary reward. The community wants to FEEL the value of the activities they do. They want to accomplish something, no matter how tedious it might seem. That is how you keep people happy. And ultimately that is how you keep people coming back for more.

  • Bungie knows exactly what the problems are, they just either don't care or are too inept to solve them. Bungie has shown us that they care more about money than making quality content for the community. Good games don't need heavy monetization, they sell themselves. Players are more than willing to plunk down their hard-earned money on something they find worthwhile, especially if they know the devs appreciate them.

Everything is calculated, PhDs in behavioral psychology are working on this game. This is soulless, exploitative, dopamine rush rationing experiment that they do on players, that they see as rats, more or less. However most of the devs are human and participating in this experiment is hollowing and burning them out. Hence lower and lower quality and quantity of the content, not to mentioned with next gen consoles coming next year, most of the company is working on D3. Best decision any Destiny's addict can make is to shake off of this mercilessly induced addiction and rediscover the world of gaming again.

Unpopular opinion but try borderlands 3 I’m literally drowning in things to do new builds loot guns hell the blue variant of weapons are sometimes even better than the legendary ones and I’m only done leveling one character! Games great and 2k listens to feedback “this gun needs buffed” gun gets a buff they nerfed a few weapons got backlash and said were done with the ridiculous nerfs we will just make buffs to other guns and abilities if necessary. Oh and we asked for vault space guess what?
they added 300 slots of space for free
🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Because they listen to the elitists of YouTube and Reddit, not the actual community who just wants the game to be fun, rewarding, and not a nerfed WoW clone.

My Rant TL:DR - no longer a fan of bungie after undying mind reskin #strawthatbrokethecamelsback. So, I've defended Bungie time and time again in the hope they learned from the sins of the past, Always trying to tell my clanmates 'it'll be different this time around cause they said *insert sandbox/activity notes here* in the latest TWAB'. Before shadowkeep, i was excited for the chance of build crafting my Hunter and learning Warlock roles, was looking forward to the new dungeon. These are some of things you guys got mostly right so, nice one. I hope the feedback around certain builds was taken into account for next season, and it shows (see 2 twabs back about double stacking mods). But thats the positive side done with. The negative Reskins...the amount of reskins is a joke, when you announce 'new' the community expects new, Not CoO weapons in a seasonal activity, doesn't matter they have some good rolls, its 4 reskinned weapons, period. Why? Why was this agreed on? Lack of time or imagination? Cause if its the latter you have AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY with some fantastic artists in there that litterally doodle for an emblem you happily advocate... So why not source from them with their permission? Same for the raid armor, i thought you had learned from year 1 d2 about reskinned raid armour... But no you just hard mode calused it. As above, why not source from the community, saw a guy tweet about an ogre matador titan set that looked incredible, yet...you guys thought of bolders for shoulder pauldrons? K The proper armour that should of been in raid is the premium season pass set, that set is actually well thought out and clearly has some passion in there...i would love to see more of it, just in activities, not a pay wall. On the subject of paying Eververse... I thought the switch made at the start of shadowkeep was good...untill you see the prices. The dust prices for ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING, are too high, started the season with 60k, now down to 12k. Reason? Im no longer paying silver for overpriced misplaced Content, by misplaced i mean it should of been in activities, this has been a topic consistently ignored since the very beginning of d2. Why have you, bungie, one of greatest game devs alot of the industry, gone backwards? You sorta fixed things when forsaken dropped, but shadowkeep...nah, you've lost me, you closed the season down with a copy paste boss. Same mechanics, just an og hydra shield and some harpy seekers...thats it...no map changes, no new loot, no nothing...im just disappointed beyond belief. Heres a mini rant from my clans discord "I actually feel like dropping destiny, like, its just the same old every time. Dlc drops, hype, lack of endgame content and ridiculous grinds for poor rewards, hype for an event to be let down. Like what have i actually paid £50 for? A 3 hour story, a limited title that requires ridiculous grinds for terrible rewards, exotic quests that lead to underperforming rewards and for the good things we do actually have to be nerfed, an event to be the hype way to end the last few weeks of the season but for it to just be a hydra copy and pasted to the boss with same mechanics we’ve had for two months. And lets be honest we all know Destiny 3 will happen eventually, we’ll get maybe one more major dlc if we’re lucky and then D3 gets announced. Because shadowkeep is the rise of iron of D2, Then we lose all the shit we’ve paid for and spent thousands of hours doing Why should i invest more money for more dissppointment? At this point should just drop Destiny completely, i’m a fan of the series i have been for years since the first week, i can’t possibly defend or justify spending more money for recycled content. A lot of the things we have in D2 are/ were items in D1 Why should i pay money just to get the same weapons/ armour i used in the first game i spent hundreds of pounds on?" That was after one encounter on VOFA Now my clan mate doesn't speak for everyone, some people may actually be happy with how things are going, if so cool, got no hate for you. But for me and my clan, who WERE big fans of bungie as a studio, we are all disappointed by whats been released. I hope this reaches one of the community managers, i imagine your work is cut out gathering feedback from other players with same issue, hope you can add mine to the pile. Heres another disappointed guardian, trying to make Destiny better...

            • Get 10 grenade kills in crucible for 10 bright dust. Quite an ask, given how easily avoided/survived grenades are in most circumstances and encounters, that will take a while to complete, for EFF ALL reward. The investment team is more interested in keeping us time-invested, rather than being generous with loot.

            • Posts like these are being ignored by bungie because if you are not praising them you are going to be ignored, bungie said in a news article that they want to control the playerbase look it up if you don't believe me this is what bungie is doing they want you all to play how they want, it is disturbing and it shows you all bungie's true colors.

            • It doesn’t help that anything that actually DOES reward the grind. (Pinnacles, god rolled weapons, good exotics) will doubtlessly get nerfed to shit making the grind pointless and discouraging players from doing it in the future.

              • Heres an idea, how about people stop complaining about every aspect of the game? Like this post, just say final assault was bad. Instead of complaining about loot? Name one looting game that no one complains about? Its like people think theres going to be an exclusive exotic for EVERYTHING. Yeah they could of brought back imago loop or something and they probably thought of it. But they cant just do everything. On top of all that they just split from a controlling big brother. Ive played this game since day 1 and there hasnt been one day without complaining and crying. You want a good game, heres the secret... Shut the F up and let them make a damn game. Or a real wild idea, Dont buy it?! Everyone hates this game but plays it every waking moment. Idiots

Not only they're asking more of our time, but our money since we're mating the same for less with SK. The shity season scheme they come up is nothing more than 1 activity that looks like a seasonal event activity(now called free events) like we already have with 4 guns as loot.. Great.. Bravo! Oh.. And season pass! They need something for the ppl that came with new light, after all Destiny is a "f2p" game.. C'mon bungie.. Just put your shit together. Last year annual pass and the model you were using is the one that fits this game, not this nonsense you guys figured out for y3!

                  • After this much time the only explanation as to why the devs aren't hearing the community: THE COMMUNITY MANAGERS. That's right Deej, Cozmo and dmg04 are not doing there jobs effectively. Two examples. 1. QoL changes are ignored constantly when suggested by the community 2. The generic response of we'll pass your feedback on to the dev's.

                  • The gear for the dungeon doesn't meet your expectations so they should just remove it? Yeah sorry, I can't take anything you say seriously anymore. Its takes less than an hour to accomplish going in completely blind and you get a peice of masterworked gear at the end. Is that not a reward? Ffs what are you doing in this game where you don't get rewarded. You want different themed gear for each and every season for EACH AND EVERY ACTIVITY? WHAT??? Yeah that sounds great, but its pretty -blam!-in unrealistic, seems how seasons are only 10 dollars and come at 3 month intervals. Btw what even triggered this post? The fact they lazily did a boss swap on content that is lasting just a few weeks?

                      • Just to point some things out. Some activites you listed as not being rewarding are incredibly easy. Lost sectors for example. Only a few have certain "bosses" that do drop loot that is exclusive to that boss and maybe one other ultra that can be encountered during certain strikes. But they are not difficult. The ritual weapons are also pretty decent for what they are and how passive the grind for them can be. It's nothing like "get 30 defeats in a crucible match" (average for me, people would be up in arms over that though). You can get 1 sniper final blow per match you play until you reach the amount needed for Revoker, which was what, 500 sniper final blows? You can do 500 matches, get 1 final blow per match, and still get the objective done. And glory is easier than ever to obtain, no one can complain at this point. Now if there WAS difficult objectives that had to be completed in a session, and that gave you something special, than sure. But a lot of the things you are griping about are either too easy to give anything special, or just a minor time commitment that isn't much of a challenge (Randy's throwing knife is such an example of a time commitment in my eyes, you don't need to do anything special in one match to actually finish an objective, as with most other pinnacle/ ritual weapons). While I do wish that sometimes more effort would be more rewarding, that is exactly why the community nags and complains half the time. "Oh this is too hard". "Oh it's not casual friendly". "I work 500 hours a week and have 20 kids and a 1 million acre farm and I don't have time for this". "My pet dolphin died, can we get an F in the chat bois?" For example, why don't I get a bunch more tokens than my teammates for hauling their asses over Mt. CarryAllTheBlueberries at the end of a crucible match? I can outperform the entire lobby, yet all I get is the same as blueberry who yeeted a nova bomb into a wall because he got scared by me running around the corner? Really? If I do most of the work during a strike, I should get more loot. If I got 90% primeaval damage, banked the most motes, killed the most enemies, and we won, I should get a guaranteed weapon or armor, preferably weapon nowadays. As it is, the loot that is given for most of the activites you listed is fairly justifiable. But as it is, players have no real reason to put in any actual effort towards a gammode. If they get the same basic loot as a person who did the most work, why even put effort yourself? The only reason I break my back in the crucible, strike, or gambit is so I can get to the next match faster. Doesn't work if your teammates are troglodytes and drag you down and you lose (or take more time in the case of strikes), because than that entire match was wasted time and effort. Hence my garbage win/lose ratio in crucible. Should I probably just get into a stack and get wins? At this point, might as well. This community is playing a game that can't satisfy both casuals and hardcore players. Sometimes you just need to take a break and do something else. Maybe that cookbook will have something fun for me to make. Maybe I'll go back to reading the grimoire anthology in party chats for people's enjoyment. I dunno. Y'all excited for the new Half life game though?
