As stated I don't want this to be a debate on gun control. We have enough of those here and no one's mind will ever change.
That being said I would like to know what happened? What made kids all of the sudden want to and act on shooting up a school?
Columbine happened when I was in school and it was a major shock. The thought that teens would actually commit a crime like that wasn't even in the realm of what parents would think could happen to their kids at school.
I'd like to know all of you all's thoughts on why this is a common occurrence now more so than before.
Social media caused depression? Mind stimulant drugs to "calm children" down? Prescription drugs in general? Parents playing the friend instead of the parent(discipline in general)?

1 ReplyClose schools. Can't shoot up the school if there are no schools.

15 RepliesCauses: Drugs, all free time going to entertainment about death, lack of parental control, bullying. Ways to fix this: lots of armed guards in school( idiots target weak places, that's why schools are a "popular" point to shoot up) Fixing the drug problem, many,if not most, or kids that do these shootings are taking bad drugs. Not letting kids watch movies and play games that they are underage for. Logically if someone indulges their life in shooting people in videos and games, then they will be more willing to do it, just like how studies show if kids watch or are involved in something they will want to "be that when they grow up"

Edited by Ricochet 049: 9/17/2019 2:55:17 AMMaybe there isn’t a cause beyond their choice? Maybe their “motive” is just an excuse for being shitty people. I personally believe evil exists.

3 RepliesBah, these guys don't look like they have anything in common. Seriously though, there is a massive lack of social skills in the majority of people under the age 25 that I've interacted with. In my experience, that shortcoming also seems to be more prevalent in males than females. I don't know if it's social media, but spoken nuances and non-verbal cues that many of us send and receive are often missed by acquaintances of mine that get the bulk of their social interaction through a screen. With Halloween coming up, anyone that wants a real horror show should go visit an Incel forum for a bit...scary stuff.

2 RepliesEdited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 9/16/2019 1:44:46 PMQueue the easy way out scapegoat things like video games, drugs, lack of god. I see that’s already underway. 🙄 They’ve done studies on this several times and it never produces a correlation to video games. For most of these shooters, drugs are never even mentioned because they don’t do them. Most of these shooters are politically/ethnically/religiously motivated, or they are disconnected loners. Bullying is something to be considered but bullies are usually the product of something else. It’s American mentality in general. It’s easy for someone to get lost in the void due to overworked and underpaid parents that have to stress about things like healthcare. Despite being in the age of connectivity we are disconnecting because the digital age makes the connection less personal or even anonymous. Identity and politics are getting very fractured and tribal. It’s easy to spread divisive BS. People are clinging to ways of life and mentalities that are fading(religion) and they are fighting this change. The longer this country exists the more diverse it gets because of the nature in which it was founded. Certain white people(majority of the mass shooters) feel like their culture is being washed away and many of them don’t seem to understand why certain groups assert themselves based on certain aspects of their identity and I think they feel like these others are being lifted up, while they think that they are being pushed away. I’m all for inclusion and diversity but it makes me wonder if the whole “melting pot” thing can only work for so long because of clashing cultures. We are so tribal and we cling to what’s familiar for safety even when it doesn’t make sense to do so. I honestly don’t really feel much for or define myself by the things that I didn’t get to choose, like my origin of birth, biological sex, sexuality, gender identity, ethnicity, etc, but I get why some people do. I honestly can’t speak on the gun side of things because I think outright banning them is dumb(within reason as people don’t need certain types of weapons), but I also think that doing nothing is just as bad.

I'd like to know all of you all's thoughts on why this is a common occurrence now more so than before.
You can't say this & then say you don't want to talk about gun control. The reason it's so common now is because Americans have more access to guns with more ammo & firepower now than ever before.

[I have compiled data to form the following opinion:] Cause: poor mental health (treatment/detection) and being bullied over it. Evidence: this has been the case for most school shooters since columbine. Solution: we need to do more for those with poor mental health, so they can be better overall and never resort to the extreme action of shooting up a school.

1 ReplySince Columbine the mentality that this is the most glorious way to get even / make a statement/ get revenge / do as much harm as possible as they prepare to leave existence themselves for all the hurt and hate that they carry in them for a multitude of reasons. All of which will point to some manner of mental brokeness. Despite the tool of destruction that has been used, there is one day going to be home made IEDs involved. There already have been knife attacks, but they get far less to no attention in the mass media because it doesnt scare enough people or send the provisional, dictated hysteria for pet crusades. But let's keep blaming instruments rather than the ones using them. It makes perfect sense.....

1 ReplyBecause we live in a society, and not a very good one. So many of these shooters come from broken homes and backgrounds, and our lack of a strong nationalistic and wholesome society has isolated these young boys. Lets go down a list in no particular order: 1.) Single moms that are way too young and -blam!- around, never allowing the kid to have a strong father figure in their life. 2.) Deadbeat dads that abandon their duties, either by ghosting or neglecting the raising of sons into men. Once again, lack of a strong father figure. 3.) A reckless and what i would consider negligent overprescribing of drugs to young kids because above mentioned deadbeat parents dont have the will, drive, or maturity to raise their children with love and discipline. Instead its endless bottles of chemical altering drugs that pacify the youth. 4.) As the world becomes more connected through technology and the scourge of "free trade", our communities become so much more isolated. We had towns, cities, COMMUNITIES, where people go to school, go to work, go to church, everyone knows everyone, there were people to turn to. Local manufacturing meant a stable position for blue collar workers and allowed the common man to not need a college degree to provide for his family and himself. Now, Amazon drones ship cheap shit to your house so Jeff Bezos can slowly kill your local mom and pop stores and make you reliant on his commerce monopoly. Now schools are filled with foreigners, whether legal or illegal, that spite your family and country because of shit that happened decades or centuries ago before you were born and demand you pay some social or fiscal cost for it by never stopping the flow of cheap labor meant to replace you in whatever blue collar jobs are left that the 1% didn't ship overseas to save a buck so 5 year old scab labor could make it shittier for pennies on the dollar. Im sure im about to get some batwings in here that are too blinded by loyalty to the neocons of the gop or the neolibs of the dems, but this is all a constantly overbearing and uncaring society that is hanging over the heads of these guys and its making alot of them into goons that snap. Yeah gun violence is down, no arguing that, but the shootings we get are more and more nihilistic attempts at relevancy. Do these people deserve the chair for what they've done? Absolutely. You don't let a feral pitbull stick around, even if its sad that a lifetime of abuse led to them ripping that toddler in half. But what about stopping them getting to that unforgivable point? Its gonna take a massive societal change in the the way pediatricians and psychologists hand out meds like their fcking candy. Its gonna take a shake up of the way our entire economic system is set up to increase the wealth of the few while replacing natives with scab labor. But most importantly, its gonna take a return of strong fathers that can raise these boys and give them something a faltering society cannot: a sense of belonging and purpose. Honestly, the most important thing every single one of you can do to stop the flow of shootings is this: when yall decide to start a family, be there for your kids. No matter what. Make them and their futures while under your roof your responsibility. Guys, be men your sons can look up to and can immulate for a successful life; dont be a deadbeat and leave the rearing to the wife. Girls, marry a good man and be a loving mother; dont -blam!- around and try your hand at "single motherhood" cuz that shit ain't working. Maybe with loving nuclear families making a comeback all the other bullshit wont matter

The philosophy that behavior is exclusively brain chemistry in response to stimuli excusing the practice of prescribing and forgetting is a huge contributing factor.

3 RepliesOur school has awful security, honestly if anyone wanted to they could walk in and blaze the place up if they wanted to. I have entered into the school with no school I.D and not get caught, mostly cause I forgot my I.D at home A kid once brought a katana into school and was in the cafeteria The officers are always on their computers or listening to music The hall monitors aren't paying much attention And the worst part There are a set of doors in a very disclosed area that lead to the outside that are never locked and aren't guarded whatsoever. Schoo security here is pathetic unless there's a football game

3 RepliesIsn't it funny how the FBI visited the dude who came up with the Area 51 meme but won't visit a guy that threatens to shoot up a school on social media?

1 ReplyI think it’s a lack of parenting in the household coupled with bullying at school and the inspiration of other shooters. I doubt we can ever fix bullying completely or parenting properly, but we sure as hell can take away the inspiration. Ever heard of a Copy-cat? That’s EXACTLY what is going on. It’s just a leaderboard to them and each one is trying to outdo the last. I’m sure we’ve all had at least one time where someone has harassed us to the point where we think to ourselves “imma kill this -blam!-”. Now imagine that times every day, all day. I mean, I don’t respect their choice to go through with their words but I can certain understand why they might act out like that. Or rather, I’m not surprised in the slightest.

We need some kind of mental test for anyone to use or own a gun as well as the mental state of the family that should be the requirement
personally I could see video games being a problem if you a bad parent who does not monitor their children and what they are playing. Buuuut I don’t think it as big of a deal the media is making it out to be but it could be a minor issue
I can tell you one thing: it isn’t Video Games. In fact, social video games would do just the opposite (well, depending on the community, and the person)

1 ReplyI was in high school then as well and thought the same thing. I couldnt fathom that kids would do that. It kind of felt like the school shared the same sentiments as well.
