I remember the day I woke up to the bitterness and cold reality of the new world I used to know. Russia. Old Earth. The Cosmodrome. God, I was so scared. This little white star ball thing just floated in front of me and my fight or flight kicked in hard. I almost punched it and ran, but he spoke to me. A comforting voice reassured me that I was okay, but not safe. I followed his directions through hallways of creatures from another world. It was like a comic book, fighting aliens with guns, with no memory of anything but the most basic of instincts. All I knew was I had to fight, or die. So I fought, and I fought, but it wasn't enough, and I knew I would die there in that frozen wasteland inside tunnels and halls where no one would ever find me. A big ugly alien thing picked me up and tore through my chest with an electrified blade. It was the most painful thing I had ever felt. Or, at least, it was, until I gasped for air with perfectly good lungs again with not a single scratch on my chest. That little star thing just floated there in front of me. He looked happy, even without a face. I was so ready to panic, but he started talking to me again. Said he was a ghost, but I told him he wasn't funny and demanded answers.
I got them in the form of immense energy flowing through my chest, down into my arms, then through my fingers all the way to the tips. I touched the void and it didn't swallow me whole. That's when I realised I wasn't just some lost soul. I was something greater. Something powerful. But I still wasn't safe. The same beast that stabbed me before drew close, with friends close by. I knew I had to stop them, whatever they were, and whatever they wanted. I charged around the corner, screaming a warcry line no other. I threw my Kvostov* to the side and channeled that energy I felt before. I felt my feet lift off the ground, my heart pounded and my head throbbed. The room fell silent as a small violet orb formed in my hands, and it grew, bigger and bigger until all I could see was purple light, inserting the corridors. I let loose and felt the void tear itself from me as it exploded into pure, unstoppable destruction before me. It swallowed the creatures whole, twisting them into nothing but stardust. I fell to the ground exhausted, but not afraid. The air was warm. My blood was boiling. My ghost was excited. I was ready. I picked up my gun, and we tore our way through countless enemies before finding my beautiful Arcadian Class starfighter.
That day changed my life forever, and I look back on the old days of being a student of the light. A Warlock like no other, bending the rules and twisting fate. Defeating the enemies of the great Traveler that woke me that fated day. And over these five long years, I've grown more powerful than my fantasies could have ever taken me back then. I've slayed countless enemies that would try their hands at defeating the last safe city of Earth. I've killed Gods in their own dimensions. I've saved countless lives, even when mine was at risk. And I've stopped every threat that has ever looked down on me. And I, along with the rest of my fellow Guardians, will stop at nothing to restore our Golden Age.
Thank you so much, Bungie, for countless hours of entertainment, laughs, tears, and a whole lot of excitement over these last 5 years. I am very excited for the future of Destiny 2 and the dream of Destiny 3 and future content. You've really changed my perspective of many things on my life, maybe not anything grand, but the little things really help put a smile on my face. I'll see you star-side!
