Solo players...how much exclusion can you take?

I'm a solo player

I'm a fire team Player

Solo player here. Love the game and everything in it that allows me to solo. Matchmaking activities are great. However, I absolutely hate the idea of and will never be getting a "fire team" together to run certain non match making activities. This excludes me from many activities that lead to pinnacle and exotic weapons and I am ok with that for now. I also fully understand the psychological and other aspects of why Bungie pushes and promotes fire teams. As a solo player I have my limits on how much content I am excluded from because I choose to play solo. If content exclusion get's to the point that I personally feel the game is just not worth the money for me, then I will begrudgingly spend it somewhere else. I bought the first Destiny on day one and have bought every single expansion from D1 and D2 since then. Love the game but in the end, if Bungie doesn't want my money that's ok. Also just wondering how many other solo's are in the community. Solo...signing out.

  • It literally takes a few minutes to either join a fireteam or create your own on lfg.

    • 90% of activities are solo-able, if not more. If you want a fireteam, use an lfg. If you have a console or pc, you have access to an lfg.

    • Which pinnacle weapon forces you to play in a fireteam? Other than raid exotics, most other exotics are also easy to get for solo players.

      • I am a solo player going all the back to d1 same as you, and I have experienced missing out on certain activities. Please don’t take this the wrong way as I’m just being honest here, but to set the record straight solo players are not excluded from any content, that exclusion is the consequence of that solo player. It takes crawling out of that solo shell and finding a team for the activities you can’t soli. You have to branch out plain and simple, solo is a choice, not a designed progression path in the game. I started slow, only finding fireteams in lfg that weren’t too strict/exclusive on requirements, then I was in and out of a few clans. Didn’t find the help I needed and finally did some deep clan research to find a good fit. Now I have raid completions and progress in areas I never had playing strictly solo. It takes branching out some, and when you find the right gaming home you won’t look back.

      • “I refuse to get a team” and then you proceed to -blam!- and moan as to why you can’t complete anything! It’s extremely easy using LFG as a solo player, there is no excuse. If you are that anti-social to the point where you can’t play with randoms, find a clan or quit destiny.

      • Oh, gosh. What are you even talking about? Whether we wanted it or not (see what I did there), Destiny is primarily an online multiplayer game, with most activities built to accomodate a fireteam. C'mon, get a grip.

Anything specific you want to try?? I'm on ps and would be happy to join up as another solo player! Also IMO, nightfalls do at least consider solo players e.g. going in solo is easier than trying to solo with two afkers in the team

            • I see your point but I believe the raid and heroic nightfalls and menagerie are the only non-match-made activities currently. All the pinnacle weapons (gambit, crucible, Vanguard) can all be obtained solo and it’s only really the raid exclusive gear that cannot. I think it’s ok to have the raid like this and that Bungie have made an effort to include players who usually play solo. The menagerie is a great example of this and the new Vex Offensive activity appears to be match-made too. Along with the changes to the Comp playlist, I believe Bungie is doing a good job to include all types of players and I hope you don’t continue to feel excluded.

              • I do both, but there are times when I would love to be able to do certain activities without having to go into a fireteam. I don't mind the LFGs since I usually end up posting my own specifications for what I'm looking for, and get a good group from it. But there are some days when I want to do certain activities (i.e. a raid) but really don't feel like talking or hearing people. So those days usually end up with me playing something else.

There are two different types of solo players. The smart and content ones, and the stupid but self-entitled ones. The smart and content solo player understands that they are buying a game that is primarily about group based activities. They understand that if they only play solo that they won’t be able to do certain activities, but that’s okay for them because they knew what they were getting into when they bought destiny. Of course if they want to do those group activities they understand that they could always just join a group, no big deal. The stupid and self-entitled solo player doesn’t understand that destiny is primarily about group based activities. They fail to understand that they won’t be able to do certain activities if they only play solo, and complain to bungie to focus more on they want instead of what bungie wants. They saw that destiny was about but bought it anyway. Instead of comprehending that they won’t get to do everything or get everything and move on to a different game that better suits their interest, they instead complain to bungie and pretend that they are somehow better than everybody else and deserve the game to be made to fit their needs. Like the smart solo players they know that they could always just join a group, however these solo players are far too stubborn to join a group, and like to make a big deal about it and how they shouldn’t have to join a group. So, which kind of solo player are you?

                  • I’m a solo player too. You’re not excluded from anything, you just choose not to put in the extra effort to either create your own lfg, or even create your own clan. I didn’t raid in D2 until about three months ago when I found some people in the tower who weren’t in a clan and I decided to create my own and invite them. Now, we raid every week. Even though I do prefer to game alone some times. There’s just certain things that should never have matchmaking. Put in the effort, you’re only excluding yourself

In my opinion, if a player cannot solo an activity to help/carry those who can't or won't do that activity, then the fault belongs to the activity itself, and not the player who fails that activity. Oh, and for those hardcore raiders who would just say that "it is a ME problem": YOU are the problem. I have never been able to do a single raid activity in my life as a Destiny 2 player. And i have done pretty much every single other activity in the game at least once, through the carries and helps of players who are better than me. Exclusivity is not always the best concept in the world; because if you choose not to do an activity just because you are unable to do it for whatever reason, you would feel like you have wasted your money on an unfinished product, with an incomplete experience.

                      • i feel the same way, but if i feel like I'm missing out on a lot i'll try my damned'st to get a fireteam together
haven't bothered doing that since the raids in d1, shit was unbearable. i don't know how you can wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and beat the encounter so you can go back to wiping and wiping and wiping and wiping and wiping and wiping and by now you've all figured out the mechanics of stage 1 of this encounter so you can get a little further when you wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe
• I certainly think some activities like nightfall and heroic menagerie could and should be opened up by including matchmaking. I believe it's remnants of Activision influence that it is not. It's basically a multilevel marketing approach to encourage you to recommend the game to your friends so you have someone to play those more rewarding modes with. I do hope they move away from this marketing technique. Menagerie I think is a good example of how it could work. Let people learn in an easier more forgiving matchmade mode, then introduce progressively harder modes building on what the player has familiarized themselves with in the previous modes. The same could be applied to raids. Then I think testing to see if matchmaking would work in the higher teir activities. I think Menagerie suggests it can as usually I run it and no one communicates. Granted is simpler than a raid but never the less it seems they have been trialing ways to introduce harder content to more players. Maybe leave raids without matchmaking but I do think other activities matchmaking would be warranted. Even when present there still nothing to stop people forming their own groups to run the activity. I do believe the only reason to keep these other high reward activities without matchmaking is for the multilevel marketing aspect of it.

You’re not being excluded. You’re shutting yourself out! Destiny has never been a solo majority game. Stop acting like you’ve been ripped off. You should have done the research before buying a game that encourages Teamplay. They even give you tools on this very site to get things done. You choose not to take part in them. Maybe you should invest more in a solo game. Stop trying to change a franchise because you didn’t do your research. Hell you bought D2 Knowing what D1 was like. Hilarious!!! This is a You problem!!!!! So sick of posts like these. They act like they’re being robbed when they’re just not willing to put forth the same effort as those who find/ create FT’s. I so want destiny to Give you solo simpletons one raid with MM so you can waste countless hours just trying to get ONE completion because of ANY number of issues that it could entail. I will be laughing at you until they remove it.

                            • There is the option in nightfalls and raids to find fireteams it just takes so god damn long for it to find one because people generally solo(nf) or have full teams already for raids
