Is crucible really THAT terrible to most people?

How is it really THAT bad to many of you? I've never had any issues with it. I still don't have any issues with it right now. This is the second season in a row I managed to reach fabled in competitive mostly solo. I earned recluse, Luna's Howl, revoker, and hopefully mountaintop in the past 2 seasons. The craziest thing about it all? I don't even use the meta. I'm not a shotgun user, I don't snipe that much, I barely use hand cannons, and I certainly don't use erentil unless I'm just screwing around. I just don't get how people are having such an issue if I'm not. Sure everything is opinion and subjective, but come on, stop complaining so hard and just play.

  • I used to love playing crucible but now I hate it and can't stand going in there. It seems every single match especially in comp there are people teleporting all over the map I have run into people that have scouts that sound like auto rifles and pulses that sound like auto rifles then they seem to fire MUCH faster than the same weapon I have. Getting killed through walls across the map through multiple walls, by one shot from a gun that can't kill in one shot. It is not fun and in no way entertaining. I and friends have even hit people with supers and they walk away. I had a friend last night I heard in crucible asking how people can get hit by blade barrage and walk away with little or no loss of health. He said out of about 5 supers in different matches he managed one kill with the super and that one kill was running around the corner between the two guys he was actually using it on yet they killed him and walked away. That being said I have a 200mbps connection that usually runs 216mbps down with a 16ms ping and 0% packet loss and my PS4 is hard wired. He has a 1gb connection and i don't know on the rest of his specs but he does coding and internet work from home so I am sure it is a good connection since that is his job.

    • I've done the same things as you, just putting it out there before i launch my opinion. I do think that PvP is in a bad spot; there are too many cheeses that completely invalidate sections of weapons and class abilities

          • You don’t say how good a player you are. Ability obviously has an effect on people’s enjoyment as being cannon fodder is hardly enjoyable. Personally speaking, as Destiny’s worst PvP player, I just play it. I lose a lot, I savour each win, I savour a positive KD, I use a variety of weapons and each match is ten minutes of my time. I understand the frustrations of others but just occasionally I think we all take the game too seriously and forget it is a game.

          • I have a decent amount of problems with it; and I used to enjoy the PVP aspect of the game a decent amount. A few of my issues are: -too many OHK weapons/abilities -supers being extremely powerful, and plentiful throughout the game (especially due to the prevalence of super mods) -terrible weapon balance (most archetypes of weapons see little to no play, High impact HCs/pulses, autos, Sidearms, etc) -terrible exotic armor balance (OEM is the end all be all for titans since most of their other exotics are pretty weak) -dozens of extremely, through lack of a better term, cheesy weapons (Jotunn, recluse, etc) And many other issues. The problem Bungie runs into, is how to possibly balance both the PVE, and PVP aspect of the game at the same time. We will NEVER have a balanced crucible, and a fun PVE environment as long as the two are balanced together instead of separately.

            • I actually prefer Competitive over QP because it has more variety of modes. I don’t think Crucible is overall terrible but I’d like to see match making improved, for Bungie to add dedicated servers, and be a bit more proactive in their weapon and armor balances than just seasonal shifts. Not terrible but just needing more dedicated attention.

              • Agree with you. Of course sometimes Crucible sucks, but same as you I got Luna, Revoker and Recluse by playing with randoms and Im average player. And sometimes it is fun, I make some great plays and thats all I need.

              • I must just be crazy but I actually enjoy playing solo crucible. I've played it way too much and know all the maps and such. I don't really have to think about anything while I'm in there and that's what I'm looking for in a game. Just some mindless fun. Now you put me in a PVE situation, I'm lost. No idea what to do, where to go or what to shoot. That leads me to not like PVE and just avoid it. I don't care enough to learn anything because I know at the end of the day I'm in it for PVP. I'm not saying it's not without it's flaws, but I enjoy it.

Simple If you have lots of time to learn the maps, lanes and behaviour of the guns and some tactics of engagement you just need on top some average reaction time and muscle memory and you are already somewhere in the top 20% I would say , meaning you are better than 80% of the folk you encounter . E.g. you win.. even if you aren’t that good at the beginning .. you learned how to be good .. if you also have some better reflexes and faster muscle memory (e.g. what’s commonly is described as “skill” ) then you reach top 5% If someone new or someone that simply doesn’t have the time or wants to spend too much time in a video game now comes in he will get paired with the likes of you since there are currently not many “noobs” playing .. If he now gets his ass handed to him every match, it will take a round 20 matches before his memory and Instincts kick in and try to “protect” him from going there .. (parasympatheticus nervous system) and if the game requires him to go there anyway because the reward he wants is behind this game mode he will start to instinctively hate this game mode and tries to avoid it at all cost . There are two solutions to this .: don’t feed new players to the wolves and let them “git Gus” before they encounter LHNFMtRC users or don’t put reward requirements into the crucible If you “force” (as in: “the reward is there, where you don’t want your go” ) players to endure this you will raise their stress levels to a point where they can even develop physical signs of miscomfort if they must go there since the reward requires it .. Simple conditioning and mammal sociological behaviour ..

                • If Bungle would stop cramming their crap PvP (see Kellygreen's post in this thread for a superb writeup) down the throats of players who despise it, a lot of the hate would go away, IMHO. Make dual PvP / PvE paths for major weapon quests, without a crapton of raiding on the PvE side except maybe once in a while. Or maybe just do quality SBMM in QP. And stop with the stupid spamfest bounties/quest steps. Just let people use the weapons they choose, for better or worse. Whomever at Bungle has a serious fixation with HC's needs to take a long sabbatical.

                • Not a constructive comment but a simple one...PvP is full of sweats and threats. Tryhards and diehards. Dudes and broods! I don’t know if this type of PvP is for casual PvP but it is harsher than Halo or even Call of Duty. Yes I know what I said.

                • I think supers need toning down. An entire team popping their supers in the space of two minutes destroys the pacing of a match. And the devs keep making adjustments to exotics to curb the strength of supers. When in actual fact they just need to get to the heart of the issue and nerf the overall usage of supers in the crucible in general.

                    • I know I suck but, I still play it. I find it enjoyable and annoying at times. D1 being my first fps, there's a rather large learning curve for someone who is in their late 30's. I'm 40 now and still suck. That doesn't matter to me. I find it fun, my son may think otherwise, due to my swearing and yelling at the screen some times lol. All in all, if you don't find the game enjoyable, don't play it. It's that simple.

                      • Personally I don't think it's too bad unless I match a team that is all running lord of wolves and erintal fusions. I would like to see more variety in game modes like D1.

                        • Well, Maps designed for 4v4, people cried so they brought it back to 6v6. Bad idea, now maps are so congested its pathetic and spawn control runs absolutely rampant because of spawning issues. Easiest/lazy way to "fix" this is remove spawn timers and make respawning instant, but it still wouldnt be hard to control spawns. You have meta shifts that make gunplay and gun skill almost non-existant (looking at you shotguns and erintils) and HCs that have pulse and scout rifle range which shouldnt be a thing. HCs should be close-medium not close‐long. You have guns that are 100% useless save for maybe 1 per type. ARs and scouts are virtually non-existant in crucible save for maybe 3 ARs and 1 ONE scout which is jade. The rest may as well not even be in the game. Then you have sidearms. Yet again almost non-existant. Then you have chain effects. Secondart to super, repeat. And with roaming supers virtually controlling pvp you then get spawn controls which chain. Many times youll spawn only to die by the same super or person because of spawn control. Then when come to the cherry on top, MM in its entirety. CBMM is absolutey stupid in competitive. It has no reason to be there what so ever. SBMM should ALWAYS be in ANY comp, regardless of the cry babies that dont want to face people on their skill level. Thats why comp is so terrible right now and will remain terrible until SBMM is put back into it. CBMM in QP is fine, no problems there. But with the other massive issues QP is a joke in its current state. The only way bungie could even attempt to fix the PVP issue is to... 1) completely seperate pvp and pve. That way buffs/nerfs only affect 1 area, not both. Take rampage (picking at random) if rampage was OP in PvE and just ok in PVP and it recieved a nerf, it would kill it in PvP making it pointless to have. This works with every single perk/gun in the game, if its god in 1 area and ok in the other and gets nerf it kills it out of that other area and vis versa. So completely seperating PvP and PvE would make a MASSIVE difference in balancing. 2) region locked dedicated servers (PvP ONLY). This would allow SBMM in Comp and make comp a hell of a lot better and reduce many massive issues in comp especially the lag fest it turns into with SBMM. Yes, it will deffinately increase wait times in MM but id rather wait a few minutes for an even match than jump right into a pub stomp. But thats another issue is the destint community is a "gimme gimme gimme" community and has absolutely no patience at all. Theyd cry about the MM time even if it meant a fair and evenly matched game. Basically, the community cried itself into this mess because they wanted everything now and dodnt want to have to wait and work for it. Everyone wants that super easy pub stomp which is stupid. Id much rather have a match come down to the very last kill than be at an immediate loss 2min in because of all the issues above. But bungie doesnt care so these issues will likely go ignored unless everyone protests crucible and doesnt touch it like they did when they wanted SBMM out instead of having it fixed.

If you go into it with a negative attitude, your gameplay will seem to follow suit every time someone kills you. Or at least that's how I feel! When I'm more positive and prepared to take on crucible, I have better games than when I say "oh I hate doing crucible, but I need this powerful engram, so".....lol! But I do agree with your post. Very much so.

                            • You know what the real problem is? Its the players. Ppl who come to destiny from call of duty or battlefield or any other cookie cutter pvp and run around blindly expecting to get kills. Ppl will tell you destiny is a cheap pvp experience and that anyone can do it. Its a skilless pvp game. You know what I see match after match. Some jackass run around a corner full sprint with a primary out while im around said corner waiting shotgun in hand ready to barrel stuff them. This some dude runs to the forums and cries about how the matching is too hard or shotguns are op. Nope.... said guy has a dildo for a brain and made poor decisions while facing a HUMAN opponent. Very few come into destiny pvp and are good at it. I did the same dumb shit I described in the post all through destiny 1. I started watching videos of better players and implementing their strategies. All the gun skill wont make up for poor decision making against HUMAN opponents. This is where the disconnect is.
