What's the purpose of adding a second slot to Menagerie gear for mods if they only work in the raids?

Call this a rant or whatever anyone wants but I feel this needs to be said. I don't run the raids in D2 as many don't want to for quite a few reasons, but the main reason I don't run the raids is because they have no incentive for me like D1 actually did that I have over 300 completions, its not much compared to some that ran the raids in D1 but enough to know what I liked about the raids and disliked. This not about whether anyone thinks the raids in D1 are better than D2 vice-versa. This is about how limited this entire game is and how Bungie is constantly looking for ways to put way more limits in this game not allowing gamers to have more freedom to play how they would like to play. In spite of what anyone says the way this game is being designed, it's like the game is struggling to have that "variety" Bungie is pretending this game has that variety in just about in every aspect of it.
How can anyone really make them meaningful choices if everything is being over controlled on what you can or can't use in the game? Think about this for a moment, ever mod in this entire game is designed to be set for a specific item. So you can have 20 mods on you but if none of them are assigned to the one gear piece you want to use the mods on your character are useless until you can use them on whatever piece they are assigned to or you grind and get what you want and even then that Is RNG that that can take a while. Then there is the gunsmith that you have to wait until the Gunsmith rotation comes around that is also RNG. Is there really any reason to put so many limitations in this game? I mean what happened to allowing gamers to have more freedom to feel they can play how they want to that usually games are designed for? because as of right now and for some time to come, the raid mods are literally useless that they do not benefit me or anyone that doesn't run the raid at all.
Edit: This wasn't just about the raids or if they work in other activities. Thank you to those that actually read what I was referring to and made a respectful reply. Edit: 1. I have noticed how a lot of gamers are set on one thing and didn't even bother to look at the overall on what was being said. It's part of why a lot of posts get shut down because too many gamers have their mindset or try to make it about the OP if they don't like what is being said on a lot of posts even though the post has nothing to do with anyone personally. This is the difference between me and a lot of gamers on here and why it's easy for me to look beyond what's right in front of my eyes. It's a shame how only some people on this forum actually look to see what else there is or what's actually being said. Most of the replies here were gamers only focused on one thing and that is not a good thing at all.

  • Because its Leviathan themed armor, and so you arent wasting mods on the slot.

Ultimately I think its to force people to move all around the game to spend more time in it. It would be too convenient if you simply got better raid gear and raid specific modifiers from said raids.... they want you to move to all the activities to grind it out, but thats basically whats killing the game. Edit. Sorry I meant for "Too Convenient" to sound Sarcastic... because the whole idea is just obnoxious.

There is so much to do in this game right now and you're nitpicking about additional mod slots on armor? Gtfo.

      • I like the idea of having the second mod slot. Am I saying it’s the best approach? No. But if Bungie wants raid/leviathan specific mods, then having the second mod slot in order to maintain the ability to equip the world wide mods in addition to raid mods is definitely a good approach. Again, it’s probably not the best it can be, but it’s still good. What I don’t want is a separate set of armor for every single raid/destination/activity. The raid mods should work in every raid, not just on the leviathan.

      • "Since we took away your D1 Raid gear perks and elemental weapons, we give you an extra slot for raid mods! Thank us by playing more and supporting eververse!" Ah, the days when raid perks were tied to raid gear and not another RNG function. Miss it.

        • Not reading this but they also work in menagerie. Then you have the enemy specific mods that work everywhere.

        • Because instead of actual raid perks for raid gear and weapons, they just give you mods instead.

        • I'm hoping they expand the mods system. These second activity mods could also have variants for pvp, strikes, Gambit etc.

          • In my opinion, mods should be the prime source of customization. Mods should be applicable to ALL pieces of gear except WHITE gear. Armor will still be able to roll with the same perks as of now. Slots would increase as you got more pieces of gear. For example: Green gear = 1 mod slot Blue gear = 2 mod slots Purple gear = 3 mod slots Then you could masterwork gear to get 2 more mod slots totalling up to 5 mod slots per piece of gear. Lastly, you could prestige masterwork a piece of gear to give it a perk that only a masterworked item can get. I believe that this would put a very large emphasis on gear and make it meaningful.

            •
What's the purpose of adding a second slot to Meganerie gear for mods if they only work in the raids?
They don't only work in raids. The menagarie is on the Leviathan so the mods in those slots also work in the menagarie. This really is no different than gambit prime armor having set bonuses that are useless outside of gambit prime, but the armor perks are no different than any other piece of armor with the exception that notorious armor can get enhanced perks. Besides, it doesn't make that armor any less effective in other aspects of the game. Opulence armor we get the same perks and mod slot as all other forsaken armor with a chance at enhanced perks AND and extra mod slot. I would much rather have it the way it is. example: my reverie gauntlets 1) choice between resilience or mobility 2)choice between enhanced cannon loader/AR loader/momentum transfer 3)choice between special/heavy ammo 4) mod slot(Didn't exist in D1) my opulent duelist gauntlets 1) choice between resilience or mobility 2) choice between enhanced cannon loader/AR loader 3) choice between special/heavy ammo 4) mod slot(didn't exist in D1) 5) activity mod slot(would have been a static perk in D1) My opulent gauntlets are just as good outside of the leviathan as my Reverie gauntlets are. I don't see the issue.

              • It works outside of raids, it’s just a bonus slot that won’t affect you at all. What was the point of this BONUS EXTRA slot?

                • If you don't care about the bonus mod slot for the Leviathan specific perks, then Season of Opulence armor functions exactly the same as all other year 2 armor. Absolutely nothing was changed or "throttled" for you, everything is the same. So you are either complaining about: 1. Not having a universal second mod slot that can accept universal mods. 2. The limited nature of the armor system in general, which is a much broader issue that has nothing to do with the bonus mod slot.

                        • The reason people have focused on your incredibly obvious mistake is because it is literally the basis for what you have said, it is even right there in your title. Just admit that you messed up and move on rather than trying to shift blame to others for calling you out on your very obvious mistake. Basically you have made a point based off of a faulty example and so it basically falls apart right from the start, even if your might be right about it, the foundation you put it on top of has crumbled immediately. The funnies part is that your example fails in two ways, not only can some of the mods be used in all kinds of activities, but you can also obtain gear with said mod slots, in managerie (which isn't a raid). Next time just admit that you were mistaken and move on, and make a different post with an example that is at least somewhat valid.

                          • I somehow got the raid mods without doing the raid. I think it’s because of the weekly first and second menagerie chest, but the rest of the mods sucks, because I won’t do the menagerie anymore.

                            • I have a Hive Invigoration mod that goes in that slot and it isn't a leviathan only mod. It refreshes my class ability for defeating a challenging Hive enemy though so it's worthless anyway but still. They should also move the Scourge of the Past and Last Wish raid mods to that slot. You know like Taken/Fallen Armaments.

                                • The mod system adds more build choice and character customisation in my opinion and the armour 2.0 being introduced in Shadowkeep will lean into this freedom even more. Having raid specific mods working alongside ‘normal’ mods can lead to quite creative load outs and some of the mods apply outside of Menagerie/Raid too which is a nice bonus. If I was you, I’d really try and get some of the D2 raids done. You seem to be passionate about this game and the raids are some of the best content. I’m not sure what you mean about the raids not being as enticing as D1 but my biggest motivator to doing a raid was actually the experience of the activity and the general gameplay experience in D2 raids is much better than D1 for me. You can still get unique weapons, exotics and enhanced perks so there is loot there but for me, just doing the raid once is reward in itself. Hope you get into some of them soon.

                                    • What I find to be really stupid is Bungie putting those mod slots on the new iron banner armor. Having to grind a lot of pvp for the complete set just to be able to put raid mods on them i ridiculus in my opinion. It's pvp armor, give it pvp mods...
