Why Do People Not Raid?

Why do many of you guys not raid and avoid it like the plague, I even see some of you saying bungie shouldnt make the content simply because a lot of players dont play it. Why dont you try raiding? This isnt to attack people who dont or to attack casual players, as someone who plays this game for raiding I am just curious as to why some dont like them? Edit: So most of you seem the think raiders are all toxic, its just not the case, some of you see someone post KWTD and think they are toxic when in reality KWTD means watch a video and have an idea of whats going on and we can help you from there. Most raiders will help you if you ask and are willing to learn. If you dont like current LFGs that are up make your own. I cleared CoS by joining a raid team that was just NA CoS Fresh 730+, a handful of people didnt know what to do and the rest of the team taught them and we cleared it. If you want you can also wait and look for Sherpas, they are more rare but they exist to help you, I commonly post Levi sherpas or join people who post that its their first time. When you are upfront about being new and wanting to learn, the non toxic helpful people will come to you. Some of you said its complicated, its not, its a challenge and you have to be willing to lean it but its not at all over complicated. Theres lots of valid reasons posted but just assuming every raider is toxic is not a valid one because its just not true. Edit 2: A good suggestion made by logan678910 65 is to have a casual and hardcore raiding section for LFG, that would honestly be a great thing because then all those who think youll get toxic hardcore players can know that anyone joining your lfg in the casual section is also just wanting to have fun. Edit 3: If you think LFG is so toxic, post your own lfg, its not hard, ask for sherpas, ask for help, make it clear you want to be taught, otherwise you just look like you are trying to get carried. There are plenty of sherpas if you are just patient. Edit 4: If you are on PC and you want to raid and be shown it is in fact not toxic and that there are people who will teach you then add me Zoe41#1700. I will gladly teach anyone who is willing to learn, I wont carry you so dont come expecting me to do that, you are going to have to learn.

  • Takes too much time, no matchmaking, too many complex mechanics for a shooter.

    • Basically it’s like this first round kill everything Next couple rounds time wasting irrelevant jumping puzzles then boss It’s drawn out to make it seem like it’s longer than it should be The toxic part for me personally is all about time Literally had a guy crying because we should have done the section 5 minutes earlier In short Too long Too boring To toxic

By the time I get my light level up high enough to do it without a major handicap, everone wants 750 with at least 20 clears in LFG. I can't keep up, and it's just as frustrating to be the one who doesn't know what to do and needs instruction for each part of the raid, as it is for the impatient people who invited you even after you told them you had no experience. I've only known a handful of players who were patient and great at explaining puzzles. Many people get angry if you don't understand their 5 second explanation of the mechanics. (You grab the glowing thing, and then run to the round thing, and shooting the spinning thing". "Got it?"

    • 1. No matchmaking, massive time sink. 2. Must know mechanics like the back of your hand or gtfo. Yeah no thank you. I hate my life enough already as it is.

    • I don't want my game to be like a 2nd job. I find being tied to a headset extremely unsatisfying. If there was a Warcraft style Raidfinder, I'd do that. I could still drink beer and fart whenever I liked doing that 😉

    • My reasons: I don’t like having to rely on five randoms. I don’t like sitting around waiting to play. Whether it’s finding enough players, or waiting for people to smoke/piss/etc every 10 minutes. I don’t like committing more than an hour of my time to something that may not sustain my interest.

    • Raiding in D1 was fun and more forgiving. Raiding in D2 is frustrating and confusing. I raided everything in D1. I raided through all of Leviathan and the raid lairs. I have made it through Last Wish and most parts of Scourge of the Past. We have tried starting Crown of Sorrow. What I've learned is that the raids in D2 are significantly less fun than those in D1. When a mess up of one player one time can throw the entire run on NORMAL, the system is flawed. D1 had a revive timer (similar to strikes/nightfalls in D2) rather than the system of raid tokens. Reverting to the revive timer would help, but not fix the D2 raids. They are just too mechanics heavy. There are some bright lights (like the sparrow race in the middle of SotP), but for the most part not fun and too intimidating. Lastly, there's rewards. In D1 you could not max out your light unless you raided or played IB. Nothing else gave you max power drops. Also, the weapons and armor acquired in the raids helped making raiding easier since they had raid friendly/specific perks. We had some of that with the original Leviathan raid armor, but then Bungie stopped doing it for D2. If is more profitable now to just run powerful weekly bounties than waste a significant portion of your day/night trying to raid. I don't even bother with then now until I've maxed out on power, and then only when my clan needs an extra raider. The above are simply my observations having played Destiny since D1 Beta day one. It seems to me the developers are now making raids for the streamers, but not the overall playerbase. Bring back fun and meaningful rewards to the raids and you'll see people playing them weekly again.

    • The d2 raids turned me off to raiding I used to carry people all the time in D1. However, I actually like the look of Crown of Sorrow and I know how to do every part except the final phase of the boss which I have a pretty good general idea of how to do it, but when I post for the damn raid I can’t get anyone to join the thing The requirements for completions and kwtd get me I always have to ask if I can join even if the only part I haven’t done is the final boss phase, but it never works 😂🤷🏾‍♂️

I hate it. I dont want to be committed to an activity in gaming for hours. Thats just not reasonable with my roles as a full time worker and father. And at the end of it you never have a enough loot from it. Raiding needs to be changed. I sort of hate how this game’s player base subsidizes raids or content they will never play.

          • For me, it's the pressure of letting down your team mates. Nobody wants to be "that guy" that holds the team back, or is the reason for multiple wipes. The pressure during raids, especially when joining a pre made team is so stressful. Adding to that, there is usualy so much criteria required that if you're not 100% efficient in raids, it's very off putting! I'd rather not put myself through the humiliation of failing.

            • Actually the majority of raiders are toxic. When Warframe axed their raids, soooooo many of the toxic garbage players left and the game was so much more enjoyable. Although destiny's toxicity problem is more of a built in problem with the core of Destiny, and why people can't see it? Destiny was built on the have, have not /bling ohhh lookie what got factor. Yes its a real thing and was quoted many times by destiny designers. While it was a good idea in theory to get people to play and play longer, and also spend on destiny store. In practice its nothing more than the equivalent of an arse constantly reminding you that you have a shiteye prius, a crappy apartment, a one legged cat that's blind while they drive by their mansion in a Ferrari, with a hot arse wife and a show dog.

              • Raiding in my opinion is like herding cats then getting them all to preform some synchronized swimming. Brilliant when done. But purely Time + Organization (more than gameplay here) vs Reward. Menagerie (Raid like event) is a solid win in my opinion. Well done.

I don't raid for several reasons. I hate the requirements players put on LFG. Raids will be out a day, and all the posts say KWTD. I don't want to play with people like this. It's such an exclusionary mode. Another reason I don't raid are the lack of good rewards. That's a lot of effort and time to get what........raid gear that is the same as every other gear. Sure, there are some cool exotics, but the drop rates are completely horrific. It's a waste of my time. I remember when I ran Crota's End in D1. It was my first, and only, Raid. I was sherpa'd by some experienced players. I had fun and the rewards were amazing. Loot that is better than most of the Raid loot in D2.

                • Up until I quit a month ago I had done every raid. Every time it was the same thing up front, highly stressful. Learning the specifics, best loadouts, etc. and worrying about being the guy that causes a wipe isn't a lot of fun. Now over time you learn to do them without really thinking, throw grenades at spawns before they even come out, nail the mechanics. The token system just made it all the more stressful. I think most people just avoid an uncomfortable situation and just point their fingers at the elitism to, as people tend to do, avoid any self-blame. There are plenty of fun, easy going people to raid with. At least there were anyways.

                • After 5 years of watching all the Horror Stories online about people attempting to enter a raid and being met with so many obstacles:- 1. Elitist Raiders 2. No ingame Matchmaking 3. Overly complicated encounters 4. Raid way too long in time 5. Guardians getting kicked just before the end. Revolting! 6. Manic Jumping Puzzles 7. Etc Etc sadly it goes on and on When I first started Destiny I was thrilled it had this kind of activity, was so looking forward to my first raid attempts. Very Very quickly I saw all the Bile and Venom emerge. I am NOT gonna waste my time on my favourite game playing with THAT kind of online person. I don't in real life, so online is now the same. I do appreciate you asking about it in such a clear and complete way though. Well done. Hopefully in the future that percentage of actual players in raids will increase as Bungle see these kinds of great posts.

                  • I used to raid in D1 for the great gear and to get max power. Now the gear is meh and I can hit max power by doing weekly junk. So yeah, that needs to change. Max power and awesome gear are my reasons I dont raid much anymore. Primes and weekly stuff shouldn't get you max power. I already have one toon at 750 and I haven't done much.

                  • The time commitment and the need for background knowledge to be part of a good team. I’ve raided a few times in D1 and it was great. But to do it right, 6 hours. That’s a lot of time.
