Edit: I will say this I like seeing other players happy here. I like seeing YOU happy.
Before bungie would dance around using the term, now they are embracing it (see today's stream). Cross saves. This means two thing for lone wolves:
1. You have your answer about solo end-game content. Your friends quit so you need to make new friends or play borderlands 3.
2. Only the campaigns and patrols will be geared towards solos. So if you just want to turn off your brain after work and play some hard egc solo (not because you don't have friends, but because you prefer playing solo) you cant. Weight has been lifted off of you. You are free to quit.
At it's core destiny has always been a multiplayer game. Some of us just hoped that It would be more of the best of both worlds. No salt here at all, I'm happy hearing bungie say it finally. Much needed answer to a lingering question. I am uninterested in this next DLC tho.
P.S
This was basically the stream for me. Nothing else caught my eye or stood out to me. No talks of progression system changes. They could be saving that news for the course of the summer...but I don't really care at this point.

6 Repliesthe tower can barely hold 20 people. That's not an mmo.

3 RepliesEdited by Movarias67: 6/7/2019 6:55:51 PMWell I stopped playing in like Feb/Mar time frame and check back regularly to see if you guys, the players, have any good news for me. I've seen the Video doc and am not impressed. I am a semi-solo player, and I can see some trivial things to do as a solo, but will become old hat really quickly. I can remember that feeling I had Sept 9, 2014 and how I was online every spare moment between work and family and couldn't get enough of it. I would love to have that feeling again, but don't see it happening. During the video doc, most of the developers looked uninterested, and for lack of a better term bored. At this point I think they have the mindset of just a "milk it for what it's got." until the player base has reached a profit loss level then abandon it, if it doesn't happen to run the full 10 years stretch. I've tried to justify coming back.. and it kills me after over 3k hours across 3 platforms to have to move on. But I'll keep coming back and see what you guys are saying. Hopefully one day you guys will have good new for me. You guys and gals who have stayed are awesome, sorry I couldn't stick it out with you.

3 RepliesThe lone wolf gamer is becoming a dying breed unfortunately... individual skill isn't respected anymore like it was back in the days of Halo / Unreal Tournament / Quake. I don't mind, that teams are rewarded more generously, but it shouldn't come at the detriment of the lone wolfs. I've been wanting an equal ground matchmaking with dedicated servers since D2 launch. Because as of right now, you either go with the teamshotting herd mentality or be at a severe disadvantage if you do decide to solo qeue. I don't remember D1 having this issue at all. Currently whats keeping Destiny 2 from being a true MMO is that every zone is layered and instanced so much to the point of all players being seperated too much. This requires a re-design with much larger zones, but also a more immersive experience where if you like searching for players to do a specific raid, you can just naturally go to that specific entrance and socially interact with other players right there and then. Thats what a real MMO entails, not to artificially do it trough interface or matchmake. I don't know what else to say really, I think most of these aspects were advertised during the first Destiny E3 reveal very long time ago, where we thought that the world was not as instanced, or blocked for players. If Bungie is able to finally make this dream a reality for Destiny 3, that would be a very innovative step forward imo.

4 RepliesCalling Destiny 2 an MMO, doesn't make it one. There's a bit more to it than just a being multiplayer or having a small shared world.
-
Would need to see more to see if that is true.

16 RepliesEdited by Borderlands 3: 6/6/2019 8:20:22 PMIt just feels so guuuud being us right now. Come, the vaults await.

47 Replies16 players in a lobby doesn’t make an mmo. Battlefield is more of an MMO lol. Just because the world is shared doesn’t mean it’s massive. Let me know when we get 64 player raids.
-
2 RepliesDestiny 2 is officially a D1 remake now! Just keep recycling old content.
-
1 ReplyI think it’s great. I’ve been waiting for it to be designed more towards a true coop with deeper options. Sorry it doesn’t fit your preferred gaming taste.
-
6 RepliesWe knew all along, but now they admit it :) Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game MMORPG A game that can typically be played with only the left mouse button and then use of 1 single brain cell. Many cost money per month to play online, unlike other games. Requires minimal skill but maximum amount of time playing. Gameplay usually involves performing some simple action(s) thousands of times repeatedly to "level up"to get the same stuff you had years ago.
-
5 RepliesYeah cause MMOs never have solo content... /s
-
2 RepliesDestiny is in a loop where we replay the same maps, visit the same areas, and get the same weapons sold to us over and over again. That’s not a MMO, that is recycled content. Their creative team has run out of ideas.
-
6 Replieswait, what are you on about?
-
2 RepliesI don’t really see why classifying it as an MMO should be taken as a serious reason to not design content to be scalable and adaptable to varying party sizes, including down to a party of one. Most content design only really needs health and/or mob density scaling to deal with variable party sizes. There is no good reason not to implement scaling for such content where this is the case. When that’s not the case, the reality is we’re dealing with forced teamwork or forced communication mechanics, not FPS or serious gameplay mechanics. I think this is straight up bad design, but that’s open to debate, and even if you leave this alone you’re still making the game a lot more accessible without really breaking the experience for groups.

4 Repliesit’s not an mmo game if I see only max. 5 players on a planet. and PvP is struggling so much to find you a enemy-/ team (matchmaking).
-
3 RepliesI haven't seen the stream yet. Does this mean we finally get planetary chat, clan chat and more along those lines? Destiny has social spaces, but since you can't talk or chat (yes, we can send messages to indiciduals) with people, it doesn't feel very social.
-
5 RepliesYear three is looking like it's finally going in a good direction! I never really get "hyped" but I must admit, a little bit of juice came out
-
1 ReplyThere is nothing massive about Destiny but the cost and hype. Destiny doesn't even have dedicated servers and still uses p2p networking. The massive lag in PvE & PvP has been better hidden in D2, but is still there, because one of the consoles (PCs) is the master. If that console is in Portugal, you are out of luck winning that match.
-
2 RepliesIt will never be a true mmo until we get: Matchmade all content (minus vet "hard mode" raids). Cosmetic overrides for gear. This can't be stressed enough. Engaging and fun open world events and world bosses. A much broader weapon and skill tree variety. Until then, I'm not buying the mmo tag.
-
Edited by GozerTheGozerian: 6/8/2019 7:01:48 PMDestiny needs a chat system. Something like Neverwinter.
-
I also never said I wasn't buying either (yet) I said "Nothing else caught my eye or stood out to me." I need to see way more. I didn't care for dittlow's (or whatever its name is) "hard questions" and those people dancing around them either. I need to see the progression system, the pvp, balance, cores gone. And a--blam!-ing-gain
At it's core destiny has always been a multiplayer game. Some of us just hoped that It would be more of the best of both worlds.
...sorry not mad at bungie just annoyed with people saying move on or its not a solo game like I didn't already say both those things in the post.
-
2 RepliesThey also threw out the RPG moniker. I hope it means more than just adding back the T12 stat chase that Luke brought up, I would like meaningful levels and character customization. Weapons that actually become noticeably more powerful with each tier. I really liked where D1 started off at and hoped it would grow from there, instead they stripped most of what was RPG away and went straight flat looter-shooter with no meaningful progression. Coming from an actual MMORPG background, it was like a lite version with great action gun play and that's why I had originally fell in love with it.
-
15 RepliesWhat are you talking about? Your quote says nothing about being an MMO.
-
2 RepliesSo on the bright side, if it's an mmo then goes it mean we will get dedicated servers for d3?
-
3 RepliesI've never understood the solo player opinion in d1 or d2, from the very first vidocs or first look vids of d1, they have pushed the social aspects of the system. Are the social tools available underwhelming ? Hell yes. But I just don't understand how anyone can watch any of the recent or older trailers, docs, interviews, and go "this is the perfect solo game for me" It's not halo. It's never gonna be halo. The renewed focus on the social aspects is great news , and I think bungie is aware of the price they will pay for that. Don't take it personal that a social game wants to be social. It makes a hell of a lot more sense to embrace what it should be than to cater to a solo player. There's amazing games out there that cater to solo players, this isn't one of them.
