Frankly you should be able to rotate in either direction. Hold to go one way, double tap to go the other.

That also sounds like a great idea albeit seems like it would take more time to implement for the programmers to add. I've heard of other similar ideas talking about adding an interface of sorts where you can quickly toggle between all three.
