I entered quickplay today.
I know I'm a bad player, as a retired grandfather who remembers when graphics were 2 lines and a couple of square blocks I am not likely to have the reactions of young kids nor the capacity to improve quickly.
However I've ignored all the private messages saying I should "Just kill myself ' or that I'm a 'noob -blam!-' and continued to have a game or 2 of quickplay when I have a bounty(rewarding a valuable enhancement core) instead of playing solo PVE as I usually do.
Today I received another abusive message with the PvP results as a picture msg and another calling me an incompetent potato who needs to be carried(if you look at my profile you can see the top player in my last PvP game ).
I'm annoyed with myself because I replied and used profanities instead of ignoring it.
Why did this one get to me so much when I've received much worse before?
I think it was because even with all the Luna/Dustrock/Wardcliff teams who would slaughter me as I spawn or within a few seconds I persevered and got my kd ratio from an average of about 0.2 to 1 or sometimes positive!
I then thought I'd try a few different weapons combos and even though my kd dropped alot I was 'FINALLY ENJOYING PVP.
Then this squirt today really took that away.
Stuff your PVP where the sun don't shine. You don't get toxic messages from the PVE community telling you to 'GIT GUD OR KILL YOURSELF LOSER'.
I know not all the PVP community are arrogant and toxic noob stompers but enough are to keep me out of the crucible in future.

To be honest I get hate messages all the time from pve players when I use my good pvp stuff and beat them and they get mad they don't have it. Doesn't take away from what happened to you but pve players are toxic when fighting someone who plays pvp more than pve.

Report these people. It’s as simple as that. I am sure that this behavior breaks both the console maker’s ToS as well as Bungie’s. It may not seem like it will do any good but if either Bungie or Microsoft/Sony receive a number of complaints about a specific GT they will investigate and they will take action on the GT to show their disapproval of their bad behavior if they found that it occurred. While responding inappropriately may feel good most of the time, it is usually ineffective (as you probably suspect) and is sometimes satisfying to the perpetrators (especially trolls). They usually do not find being banned for any amount of time satisfying though.

I felt awful yesterday playing a comp game when they spawned in with 3 people. It was a really tight game so I wanted to congratulate him for his performance even tho they lost. Ended up playing loads a matched after and getting him a few point. Another friend on the list. We're not all bad.

Well to be honest.. I feel sorry for you.. I never hate my enemys but People play to win it.. And it's like Football or any other thing in cases win or Lose the emotions... And always say dustrock/Luna is the fault isn't true.. They are better that's it you pretty much said you are not good.. So take it Real, stay realistic and keep relaxing or deactivat that random People can write you messeges..

5 RepliesJust report them....bungie is pretty good about banning douche bags...and yet they will always be on....chin up just keep playin....ignore the noise....

It’s the internet old fart.(from another old fart) If you don’t do something online because there is verbally unrestricted people on a platform, you would be limiting yourself. You might as well change your own tolerance and train yourself (old dogs new tricks can happen) to treat it with indifference........ My opinion anyway. Good luck.

2 RepliesEdited by Rush: 5/13/2019 4:24:02 AMJust set your messages to friends only. If you’re not my friend on psn in the first place, then I don’t really care what you have to say and don’t need to be receiving your messages. Do random ppl have your phone number and send you texts whenever they feel like? No cuz you only give your number out to ppl you want to be receiving messages from. Similarly, messages can be limited to ppl who you accept friend requests from (kinda the equivalent of giving out your number by psn standards).

Just kill myself you should never say this it's illegal in some countries and you might end up jail or worse did you report those guys

2 RepliesEdited by Tengu: 5/13/2019 7:10:32 AMSticks and stones may break my bones and all that. But what really crossed the line for me and help me uninstall was i've gotten DDOSed literally 4 times on different occasions for just playing a -blam!-ing videogame. I'm not the only one at my house who uses our internet, my sister uses it as well for business reasons. So having some shitbag DDOS me just because he wants to win, like a sore loser and a coward, and messes with my sister's income and livelihood that she uses to pay the bills and feed herself was temporarily taken away. There is literally zero reason to tolerate this and not even that but bungie -defends- these assholes by protecting their name from "Defamation." I'm starting to think it all boils down to the fact that bungie relies on streamers and publicity from twitch and youtube for revenue and advertising because they're that apathetic and desparate. That being said, i'll never give bungie another -blam!-ing buck from my wallet for how asinine their behavior is, it goes to show as well what kind of company they keep near themselves. P.S. the DDOSing lasted for literally 6 hours.

Just disable messages from non-friends. Problem solved.

The PvE community can be just as toxic. People get kicked from raids for stupid reasons, get sent hate mail in Gambit, scream at each other over a death, get kicked from activities at the end so they don't get loot, etc. The lost goes on. It isn't the game mode. It's the entitled children playing the game.

Edited by Penhalion Wolfe: 5/13/2019 8:23:27 AMHad this in a recent game of comp. I watched my team mates run off in three different directions so just stayed at spawn and took out as many of the enemy team as I could when they inevitably came pack hunting me as ladt man standing. Match ends and I get a "Go kill yourself" message. I replied politely. With the following. "Given that you ran off and died instantly no fewer than 3 times. Clutched 2 kills by sheer panic throwing a grenade and then in the last round tried to use me as a meat shield (which failed as i simply jumped over you and killed the guys you were hiding from). You either a) need glasses or b) were actually messaging yourself and selected me by accident." Edit: he never replied after that. I think a lot of these toxic players just can't admit its largely down to them when their teams loose.

Edited by Reclaimer: 5/13/2019 8:17:30 AMPeople need to get over themselves. I’m no stranger to online toxicity, but this is just pitiful. What good does that even do, harassment of that level? Game’s over and done with. Don’t want to be saddled with “bad randoms”? Clean up your attitude and maybe you’ll make some friends. Even worse, the people petty enough to send venom-filled nonsense like that are usually nowhere near as good at the game as they think they are, despite taking it as seriously as they seem to. Don’t let it bother you. They aren’t worth any emotional discomfort from you.

Edited by Talia Sendua: 5/13/2019 11:01:47 AMI'm sorry for my fellow guardians in the crucible. I know that a lot of players want to enjoy pvp but aren't good enough to do so because of physical/psychological/handicap reasons. That's the reason why I stopped playing D2 for the moment. I often also don't enjoy pvp, even as a decent player. And result of that is that bad players don't have to face people like me sweating them down with recluse. I for myself enjoy playing Star wars the old republic at the moment and I think I will maybe jump on this game for a longer time since the next big expansion seems to come around September.

7 RepliesYall whine too much. 🤨🤔 so much crying . The comments are entertaining.
-
How can you be older and have a thin skin? Just report and block and move on It's literally that simple. That's how the entire internet is anywhere. It has nothing to do with pvp.
-
Just report the message to psn or xbox next time and get their arse banned for a while, block the account so it can't send you any messages and be on your way. No time to lose on trash talkers, we only have one life.
-
1 ReplyReport the message. I know on Xbox they easily ban people for saying such things. Any foul language or vulgar insult they will drop a ban. You can say “git gud” or “you suck” but throw foul language or say “kill yourself” and that jumps to an offense that will be banned. I like to think Sony has the same rules.
-
Like many many others have said, setting PSN platform setting to only allow messages from friends is a good option. Just remember that it also disables the ‘invite to fireteam’ system, as invites are currently classed as messages. (Sony ought to have a separate privacy setting for platform invites, but for the moment they don’t.)
-
Sorry that happened to you. Back at the beginning of D1 I would normally get 1 kill with 17 deaths. Never got hate mail. I'm improved over time and got my kd to 1.25 or so. Then the hate mail started pouring in. I was actually enjoying it. Now I just ignore it. I'm too old to care. It's a game. Enjoy it for what you can. Ignore the keyboard warriors who wouldn't survive outside their mom's basement.
-
Report them for harassment and move along. They're not worth your time.
-
Sorry to hear that. I hope it doesn’t put you off the game or even PvP - there are just douchebags out there.
-
turn off messaging.
-
Uhhh make it so people who aren't your friends can't message you? Just a thought.
-
Good times. I still have messages from D1 era when lootcave was a thing. 2 dudes sent me a bunch of messages to get the @#€& out from said cave because apparently I was already geared up and didn't need anymore loot. I ended up dancing in lootcave stopping all spawning.

If you ever want to play pvp without those rude people maybe you can find some people to play private matches with. I understand that there are some asshats out there, but pvp can be quite enjoyable when arrogant people don’t suck the life from it!
